Melody Cook is addicted to magic. Just add it to her growing list of screwups.
Melody has been demoted from her job at her family’s charm shop. Now, instead of making charms, she’s a salesperson—a task she’s not up for.
In order to get her life back, Melody decides to attend a magical addiction support group. It was a good idea until she discovers that the group isn’t as invested in recovery as she is. And then a member is found dead.
There’s a killer loose in Pumpkin Valley and Melody is determined to solve the mystery. With the help of fashionable Gabrielle who desperately wants to prove her worth, the attractive and easy-going Corey who has a secret, and a mysterious cat, Melody will find who killed Chad.
That is, if she can get her magic addiction under control…
While I enjoyed this book, I have pretty distinct ruts that define the books with which I fall in love. First the protagonist needs to be funny, self aware or at least working on it and genuinely aware of the glory of true magic. Second she needs to have a developed support system that we, too, love. In this book, I felt just couldn't feel the characters, the scenario or the genuineness of the story. I'm glad I read it, but I am counting on the author to continue to write, to flesh out the characters and to remember that as a reader, I go into the world outlined in the book. The need for humor, fun, suspense, relatable feelings, security....cozy style, understandable connections, and that magic some authors have that are able to supply me with mini vacations that add wonder to my mundane life all are highly possible in this writer's future. She's begun the journey in this 1st of the series. I'm already awaiting.
A good read that is well written and with great well developed characters but I have read something very similar in regards to the plot. When her family take action against her use of magic for everyday things, she has no option but to take some sort of cure. Joining the support group seems like a good idea. But the group have their own problems especially when one of the members turns up dead. Who killed the member and why. Can she and the others in the group solve the case and what will she do regarding her own predicament. A nice smooth read that should hopefully lead to a great series once she makes up her mind in which direction her life should now go
Melody is from Pumpkin Valley and she is addicted to magic. That’s why she joined a witch’s anonymous group to get over her addiction. But why? Magic made things easier.
A psychic’s prediction of someone’s impending death is what starts it all. Turns out one of the magic addicts ends up dead.
The mystery was okay, but my biggest beef was that there wasn’t much magic in it, which makes sense, I guess, since these guys are trying to quit it. But still, a witch story with no magic? C’mon!
I couldn't finish this book. The writing was high school level at best. The use of some new slang "you do you" left me shaking my head. This is a story of characters that had no depth. If by the middle of the book you have to look up a character to figure out which one they were, you know the character development is bad. I don't even care who killed Chas anymore
This is an odd little book. The compulsive magic user theme is kind of cute. Unfortunately, the murder mystery just didn't make any sense to me. Perhaps it was the dialogue there, but I was just confused at that point.
