Salem is the story of Jamie and Mike Corbett, witches born in a town with a history steeped in death. But in the town of Salem death is hardly the end...
Jarvis T. Cleveland is ecstatic to return to writing after a 5 year hiatus. Hallowed is his first full-length novel(the first in a series). A Clinical Social Worker, single parent, and proud Queer, he hopes to tell the stories of diverse individuals who aren’t represented enough in stories.
Jamie is a young African American Witch, whose natural gift lies in visions. When he envisions his sister Nora being taken, he and his family decide that action must be taken. Set in the heart of Salem, this well-crafted novel promises to excite.
Narrated by Jamie and his brother Mike, the story delivered several plot twists that I never saw coming. The novel focused on themes of family, and of deception. It held at a steady pace and had characters that I could relate to. My favourite would have to be the younger sister, Nora, whose childlike innocence warmed my heart.
A fantastic, short read that is ideal for Halloween.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series. I liked the story of family combined with the magic/witchcraft. I also liked that it's set in modern day Salem.
