The shapeshifter is one of the hottest figures in literature today, and with good reason. There's something about a man who's more than a man, something about the primal instinct, that gets our juices flowing. Shifting Again has it all, from werewolves to less traditional tigers to a take on the old seal skin legend. Authors like Kara Larson, Camilla Bruce, Sean Michael and Cat Zheng give us the kind of heat and tooth baring animal attraction we've all come to know and love with Shifting and Shifting Too. Grab the tiger by the tail and read Shifting Again today!
This anthology has eight stories and for the most, it is a good collection though I feel like my enjoyment of the stories ranged from good to bad and everything in between. Though the two stories I consider my favourites - Who Will Know? & Seal Skin - will surly stay with me for a long time. There were two stories I disliked but the rest ranked higher than average so on the whole it was a good read.
Hide by Cat Zheng - ★★★★ This one was a really good story to start the anthology. This story is written in a more science fiction vein and the worldbuilding was really good. I just loved the entire atmosphere that permeates this story.
It is a really intense story and that elevated the entire experience of reading it. Even the relationship at the centre of this tale felt more sexy and hot because of how intense the story is. The ending is a pretty uncertain one but I found that it worked really well with the vibe of the entire tale.
Rescuing Ryan by Sara Bell - ★★★1/2 This story is like a complete 180 in tone from the previous one. It is very cute and wholesome. I really liked Ryan and Soren and how they came together. It was really cute. Though this story has a novel worth of plot which I didn't like that. There was just too much going on and I felt like it would have been better to pare down the plot and focus more on Ryan and Soren. Nonetheless, this was a really warm and wholesome story.
Who Will Know? By A. Steele - ★★★★★ WOW! I loved this story, it was perfection. It was a very interesting take on Prometheus' punishment and I'm a sucker for Greek Mythology so this was right up my alley. But, the story itself is downright delicious and hot as hell.
The Lost Tiger by Sean Michael - ★★★1/2 This story is a bit like 'Rescuing Ryan', especially in terms of the vibe of the story. But, this story is so weirdly written that I have a hard time believing anyone besides T and Greyson exists in this world. By the end of the story I was convinced they lived in a world just empty of anyone else, it was a really weird feeling. Only five people are ever mentioned in the story including the two main leads which was fine at the beginning but by the end, I just wanted to know more about Greyson and his family and friends, I mean I would take learning what he did for a job.
I also couldn't get the very obvious power imbalance in this relationship out of my mind because it was a little too obvious. Still, it is never acknowledged and it made me a little uncomfortable to truly enjoy the hot, hot sex. The story also tries to introduce a plot but it never really goes anywhere and that left me wondering. Overall this is a nice, long short story whose saving grace is the incredible chemistry between the main characters.
Plums by Camilla Bruce - ★★★ This story is really atmospheric and I really liked the idea of it but I couldn't quite connect with the characters. Though the writing is exquisite and it lends the story an almost mystical vibe.
Singing Up the Moon by Angel - ★ This is the most random story in this anthology. I do not get the point of it. The characters are pretty bland except for Cian but unfortunately, we don't get to explore his character in more than mere glimpses. The writing is fine though it doesn't captivate and the plot is just boring.
Seal Skin by Kara Larson - ★★★★★ This was the second story to give me deja vu, I really felt like I had read it before. But, I loved it. This story is magical, I love the concept and I love how the story is told. This story is probably the least erotic of the stories in this anthology so far but it is beautiful. I just loved reading this story and the circumstances that forged the relationship between Erlend and Ronan. Their relationship is so intriguingly fraught but still loving and it was just extraordinary to experience.
Alpha by BA Tortuga - ★ I feel like I should give this story a single star on principle. This story is well written and the first half was hot hot hot but then the story makes a decision that it could never come back from. This story features Cage and Roman and their growing relationship except when Roman and after that I just wanted Cage to run away from Roman.
