Psychiatrist Rand Morrissey is faced with a quandary when he is consulted on the baffling case of five-year-old Sienna, who has been suffering from unexplained fainting spells. Then he discovers that Sienna has a half-sister, Chelsa, who has been in a coma since a car accident six years earlier, something the girls' manipulative mother Melanie Cantrell has kept secret.
When she is questioned under hypnosis, Sienna reveals things only Chelsa could have known. Rand begins to suspect that Melanie is machinating Sienna's problems. Or is she? Now Rand must overcome his own childhood demons and find a way to save the lives of two half-sisters, inextricably tethered between life and death.

“Limboland (St. Augustus Chronicles, Book Two)” by Leigh Goodison was an exceptional read. I would like to thank Leigh for gifting me an e-copy of this book. While some of the reactions and reviews for this second book were not as positive as the first book, I found I enjoyed this one much more. I think it may have been that the subject matter in this installment was far more interesting to me. It also had a bit of a paranormal feel to it with the idea of reincarnation and the exchanging of souls. This book was also more involved with the psyche of each character as opposed to being villainous in a murderous sort of way. In “The Jigsaw Man” there was a murder or destruction of the body, in “Limboland” it is more a destruction of one's mind and how that affects those close to us and around us. It had a thought provoking, interesting, and well organized and researched plot. Each character held my attention, and had me listening to what they had to say. I was snatched from the very beginning of this one right to the end. While the book ends well, one has to wonder if there might be more to be said (one can only hope). Like I said for “The Jigsaw Man”, this book is a book in a series but can be read as a standalone and there is no need to read them in any specific order as long as you jsut read them! I thoroughly enjoyed this, my third read by Leigh Goodison, and I look forward to many more hours of delving into her words.
Synopsis (from back cover): Psychiatrist Rand Morrissey is faced with a quandary when he is consulted on the baffling case of five-year-old Sienna, who has been suffering from unexplained fainting spells. Then he discovers that Sienna has a half-sister, Chelsa, who has been in a coma since a car accident six years earlier, something the girls’ manipulative mother Melanie Cantrell has kept secret.
When she is questioned under hypnosis, Sienna reveals things only Chelsa could have known, leading Rand to suspect that Melanie is machinating Sienna’s problems. But is it Melanie, or something else? Now Rand must overcome his own childhood demons and find a way to save the lives of two half-sisters, inextricably tethered between life and death.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book. Man, this book. I started out not liking this book much at all. No, I actually almost quit reading altogether close to the beginning because nothing seemed to be clicking. The only reason that I didn't was because I felt obliged to review this book.
And good thing that I did. The more I read this book, the more I seemed to like it. It's strange, because none of the individual aspects stand out to me much, the characters are all nice, although not breathtaking. There is one particular character that I honestly can't stand and that deserved everything. Spoilers! The setting or the writing style also didn't stand out to me with all of the other books I read this month, but still, something about this book intrigued me. I really, really liked this book. I don't know why.
I don't think I'll be picking it up for a re-read anytime soon, but still, for what it is and what it was trying to do, I enjoyed my time with this book.
I got this book free for an honest review from Goodreads. I never know what to expect with the books that I get for review. I LOVED this book! I literally could not put it down until I finished! It has all the elements that I love in a good story - mystery, drama, supernatural. Very well written. It has a feel that there could be more to the story - perhaps a sequel?? At any rate, I look forward to more from this author.
Leigh Goodison has written another decent book. The two main characters have enough backstory to flesh them out as real. The story also moves along fast enough to keep you involved.
The reincarnation aspect of the story was a tad bit out there but the ending did catch me off guard. But I willingly admit it was the way it should have ended. Like the early book The Jigsaw Man, I think there is more that could have been explored.
I wish to thank LibraryThing for my advanced reader copy in exchange for this review.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Somehow it got lost in my email and my review is delayed so my apologies to the author. I really enjoyed this story. Such a fascinating concept. I couldn't put it down and had to talk through it with my husband when I finished reading it. I'm most definitely going to read others by her. Highly recommend if you want something a little different that will make you think.
I've always been very interested in both psychology and spirituality so this book was definitely a good fit for me. An intriguing novel about how our lives on this plane of existence might affect what happens to us later on. The writing is sharp and the plot moves along well. I definitely recommend it.
A great story and really held my interest throughout. It also made me think long and hard about what might happen in the afterlife. Very thought provoking as well as entertaining.
Interesting premise in this novel. Some things left explained though such as the mother's role and her real motivation. could possibly be re-worked and made a little longer to fully explore all of the issues raised. The end comes very abruptly.
This was an ok little book. It didn't pull me in and grab me like I hoped it would, but it kept me entertained enough that I read it all in one sitting.
