Howard Barker is an English playwright. His plays have been produced at the Royal Court, the RSC and the National Theatre, throughout Europe and the USA and by his own company, The Wrestling School. He is best known as the exponent of the Theatre of Catastrophe. He is a theatre theorist, a poet and a painter. His work has been the subject of a number of book-length studies and academic conferences.
A tough text especially if you're cutting it down to 50 minutes from 5 hours to put on an adaptation. Like the majority of Barkers work, it's a dense play with alot of things going on at once and lots of ideology, as well as sex and swearing (not for the faint hearted), through out. A good read if a fan of Barkers work or enjoy reading dense material but not a good first read for someone who wants to discover Barker :)
