After returning back to her hometown, the strikingly alluring Solai Givens was prepared to put her degree to good use and embark upon her professional career. Upon leaving three years prior, her feistiness, and what others assumed to be, privileged attitude, had caused tension in a relationship she was only trying to see flourish. Being bashed for her upbringing, she thought was a thing of the past until she met Juvie. Wrongfully doing so, Solai shuts down any chances of him trying to win her over, but with time comes maturity for some, and she was now overwhelmed with the pressure to rekindle the flame that had long ago been burned between she and Juvie. Juvie, redefined in every sense of the word, has transformed from the average Joe to the head honcho. After his confidence was shredded at the hands of Solai, unintentionally, he was left with no other option than to boss up! Years have passed in between the two, but their reunion is none other than amazing. However, the tables have shifted, and Solai no longer desires to have him at her side. Being the nigga that he is, Juvie uses the skills that he’s acquired in her absence to try and reel her back in. Looking on, friends and family of Juvie and Solai both seem to enjoy their reconnection, all while dealing with their own issues at hand. The lifestyles once lived are a thing of the past and they all seem to be struggling to hit the hardball life keeps pitching their way. Love, lust, betrayal, and denial all hit the surface at once, and they are left to question only one person… themselves. In this gritty, drama-filled hood love story from BriAnn Danae, read along as loyalty is questioned, secrets are being kept, but friendship is the one thing that never wavers. Life is quickly changing around them, and if Juvie and Solai aren’t careful with the decisions they make, the love they seem to yearn for will be the least of their worries.

I’m not sure if the immaturity of these characters was intentional to show their growth later but they all took me through it!!!! Lawd have mercy on my mf soul 🤣😩🤧. While the title of the book indicates the main characters in this chaotic story is Juvie and Solai, it consists of 4 couples total and they all irked my soul. The book starts with this crew graduating from high school and despite going to the same school they don’t really know each other know each other. It’s more of a I had this class with you or seen you in passing. They finally connect at a graduation party thrown by Anika. They soon discover that they all have very different upbringings. Some come from single parent homes, two parent homes, and even no parents at all. Some families are well off while others are barely keeping the lights on (literally).
Juvie & Solai are polar opposites. Juvie is raised by a single mother and has no relationship with his father after he ran off and started a family with another woman. He’s seen his mother struggle and his only goal after graduation is getting a job to help lighten his mother’s load. Solai comes from a two parent household and her mother is a doctor. They are well off and have raised a daughter that is smart, confident and knows what she wants in life. She’s off to college in the fall and because of this Juvie feels she is out of his league and wants to boss up so that he can come correct. They are both stubborn and when they part ways at the end of the summer it is definitely not on good terms.
Anika and Krew had a fling but Anika is known as the hoe of the group. She’s known to get what she wants from a man and then leave him hanging. Krew on the other hand loves hard and he doesn’t care about her past he can see beyond her flaws. Well after being strung along he decides to move on and Anika couldn’t handle when he pulled a her on her. I’m anxious to see how that’s going to play out.
Harvey and Aunuyae had a 4 year age gap. She is Anika’s older sister and since the graduation party her and Harvey have had a situationship going on. She has a 5 year old son and at the time she’s not looking for anything serious despite Harvey being all in. He comes from a snooty two parents family and they look down on Aunyae and believe their son can do better and despite her age Aunyae is going to miss out on the blessing that Harvey is for her son.
Tesh and Ramon are secret lovers. Ramon is the younger brother of Juvie and two years younger than Tesh. They bonded over their love of basketball and their deep friendship has lead to something more. The only problem is that she’s in a relationship and it’s not a good one. She has no father around because he was killed in a car accident and since her mom blames her, whe wants nothing to do with her.
This first book fast forwards 3 years later and they are all now 21 ( the high school crew at least which is everyone except Ramon and Aunyae) and if I don’t tell you all he!! broke lose!! Lawd I don’t know who’s dumber 🤣🤣 Solai proved to be the most disappointing because sis is that chick and has settled to be Juvie’s side chick after they reunited and he was already in a relationship. Juvie is so self centered and selfish and I really hope Solai discovers her worth because this aint it sis.
The cliffhanger was expected like I though it was going to happen in the beginning of the book so I was waiting but man if anybody didn’t deserve what happened it would be this character……on to book 2
Whew that ending!!! 😭 All of these characters plucked my nerves! Especially Juvie!!! But the way this book ended, I can’t wait to dive into the second one 😭
I had to keep reminding myself that these kids were just that, children because the immaturity and the lack of communication were at an all-time high. But even when I was in my early 20s, I was never this damn dumb. This story is about a group of two sets of friends, the guys; Juvi, Harvey, Krew, and Ramon, and the ladies; Solai, Anika, Tesh, and Aunyae who all went to the same school but didn’t hang out or talk much. After graduating both crews are at Anika’s graduation party and some bonds are formed while others fizzle out before the flame can even ignite.
Juvi & Solai: These two are polar opposites, but how does that saying go, opposites attract? Well, that may be true, but the road won’t be easy. Juvi was raised by his single mother with his little brother Ramon. With no father figure around, and his mother barely making ends meet, Juvi vows to get it however he can to make sure his family doesn’t have to go without ever again. Solai was raised by both her parents, in a loving household. Her mother is a doctor who instilled a hard work ethic into her daughter. Set to leave for college in the fall Solai wasn’t expecting to connect with Juvi, but their connection is cut short when Juvi feels like Solai is out of his league. Both being held strong and stubborn they part on not the best terms.
Krew & Anika: Whewwww they say be careful what you ask for. Anika is known as the “hoe”, and she doesn’t give two f**ks about it. She doesn’t believe in relationships or falling in love. She just wants to use these 🥷🏾 for what they’re good for, the 🍆 and then bounce. Krew is a lover boy. He doesn’t care about Anika and her past, he sees past all that and wants more from her. Of course, Anika is not having that so she continues to do the friends-with-benefits thing with Krew until he grows tired of that situation and moves on. Anika doesn’t know what to do when she sees that Krew isn’t messing with her on that level anymore, home girl is about to lose it 😂, her friends told her to stop playing with that man 😂.
Harvey & Aunyae: Aunuyae is Anika’s older sister, who has a five-year-old son. She is living her life and raising her son, with no intentions of entering a relationship, that is until Harvey applies that pressure. Being four years his senior Aunyae wasn’t expecting this young boy to come in and sweep her off her feet. Not sure if she can trust it, she puts up a wall, no matter how much Harvey proves he’s all in. Harvey comes from a snotty-ass bougie family, who believes their son can do much better than some baby momma, although he’s not trying to hear them, he loves Aunyae and Kareem with his all and is determined to be with them. I’m very interested to see how this storyline plays out.
Ramon & Tesh: My favorite couple. They are secret friends/lovers. Ramon is the younger brother of Juvi and he is two years younger than Tesh. They meet at a basketball game and Connect over their love for the sport. Tess is in an abusive relationship with a man who started off being prince, charming, but quickly became her worst nightmare. Having no one in her corner, she believes that she has to stay in this relationship where she is slowly losing herself. Their friendship quickly turns into more, but with a lunatic as a boyfriend, how will this end for the two lovers?
This book fast forwards 3 years later and babyyyyyyyy I thought you were supposed to get smarter with time, well apparently that’s not the case for this crew because the decision-making and actions were just mind-blowing. I will have to say my most disappointing character is Solai. She was raised to be “that girl”, she has a bright future ahead of her and instead of leaning into her worth, she decides to be Juvi’s side bitch?! Huh??? Ain’t no 🥷🏾 that fine that I would EVER compromise myself like this. And I don’t like Juvi's selfish ass! He might have bossed up financially, but he should’ve bossed up mentally because these moves ain’t it.
That cliffhanger 🥹🥹 I knew this was coming… 😩on to book 2.
Lawddddd!!! I am not usually a fan of this format with so many people talking through out, but when I tell you I was wrapped up in this story... Juvie was so irritating. He was young, insecure, and conflicted and really didn't know how to handle Solai initially. So, he shut her down and settled for Oriana. Years later he has bossed up and feels invincible, like he can have whatever he wants. When Solai comes home from college he decides she is what he wants. Not because something was wrong with his relationship, but simply because he always wanted her. He was so arrogant and the way these women just fell for him was beyond me.
Solai girrrl what were you thinking. She was smart, focused, and headstrong, but all of that went out the door when it came ti Juvie. She really let this man turn her into a sidechick. I literally didn't understand why she played herself like this.
The women in this book were hella irritating. Tesh seemed so sweet but didn't know how to leave her toxic relationship, even when she had a better option. One that she actually preferred. My heart broke for her. Anika didn't know how to accept love, she played the one that was truly down for her. Aunyae wanted to be accepted by people that ultimately didn't matter. She steadily pushed away the man that showed he only wanted her and her son. These friends just could not choose a healthy relationship even when it presented itself.
This ending really took me out and I'm running to the next book to see how this turns out.
This was a good read!!! I love me some Harvey and Aunyae ❤❤❤ my boy Harvey was ready 10 toes down from jump 😍 I completely understand Aunyae's hesitation but I hope they get it together!! Tesh... I feel sorry for her for what she is going through at home, I really do BUT I dispise her selfishness with Ra! I think he deserves better 🤷🏿♀️ not a better person but a better love story. Juvie and Solai are going to annoy me to no end lol I don't like how they got together at all. I don't like O but still they are dirty for getting together like that. I have to say at first I was rooting for Juvie to get everything he deserved because he was such a humble, sweet young man but adult Juvie turned into a cocky, arrogant butthole!!! 😂 the end I saw coming a mile away! Hope he is okay!
Oriana was standing by the door one day when Tesh and Ramon were talking. Tesh said that O reminded her of Kole and now we know why. Juvie pissed me off in this installment because he was falling for the okie doke at every turn. Especially with Oriana.
Bri’Ann is definitely one of my favorite authors 🔥 the beginning of this book gave me the vibes of the movie “The Wood” with Omar Epps and Tate Diggs. Super nostalgic.
But anyways 10/10 for sure. Yall about to make Juvie go crazy! Let me download part 2.
This was my first read by this author, and let's just say I'm now about to search for her other books and read them immediately.
Everything I enjoy when reading, was found in this book. Let's start with the writing. This author took her time and told Juvie and Solai's story from the very beginning. Some may say it started slow, but I beg to differ. The author laid the ground work for an unbelievable plot, climax and cliffhanger. And provided just enough conflict along the way to keep me interested, until the story peaked. The characters and their storylines were believable and diverse. I would definitely recommend this book to fellow readers and I hope the wait is not a long one for Part 2. Kudos to the author!
This was a good read to follow along with. I knew the mess Tesh was in would catch up with them but I have a feeling the author is going to pull the typical move. The same person that has Oriana knocked up is the same one behind the ending. He thought it was Juvie but then again I doubt he really cares either way, I think Maine had nothing to do with it. Hopefully Ra sticks around because without him in the story it really won’t be that good. He needs to harden up and without him in to show his transformation it just won’t be the same.
This is all on Tesh. She knew Maine had a tracking device on her car. That baby O is carrying isn't Juvie's and I can't wait for the truth to come out. I hope Solai finds someone that deserves her. I'm hoping Krew don't go back to Anika trifling a$$. Aunyae needs to realize Harvey love for her and her son is real
Very good read! Tesh needs to get it together. Tremaine is crazy & mean as they come...I'm hoping Juvie makes the right choice & stop his madness with Solai. As usual, part 1 had a good storyline filled with drama & has me ready to read part 2!
Juvie and Solai started of so innocent and sweet and then damn they all got on my nerves because what the heck are they doing. You have what appears to be 4 couples but not really. They ladies are all pushing the guys away some with good reason others don’t make no sense. You have a 3 if not 4 year gap before everyone is back in the thick of it. Juvie and Solai are opposite with him being dead ass wrong and then got the nerve to be mad be glad she was there for you when you needed her and keep it pushing. Anika is confused and get a taste of your own medicine and can’t handle it while Krew just wanted her and didn’t care about her past. Harvey is trying to be with Aunyae with a age gap and her having a kid but because she has her own feelings about them and his family she wont allow him to be the man for her and her son. Then you got Tesh who really pissed me off the whole damn book. Girl if your that good go away to school and don’t look back that how you get out of that clearly that dude is going nowhere. Then to have Ramon be waiting around because he wants better for you. I swear this book was not good for my blood pressure. The ending had me in shock but not really and I hope this is the turning point for the whole group. The prelude threw me for a loop because that scene never came back up.
Whew… I was not prepared for this book. My emotions were all over the place every character had me on edge! Solai and Juvie? They stressed me out the most. Solai gave major bratty, entitled energy, like the world owed her something. And Juvie? That jealousy he carried was loud. I really wanted to see them grow, I had such high hopes, but man… they let me down.
Aunyae and Harvey had me rooting for them hard. Harvey was trying he was young, but stepping up in such a real way. And Aunyae? She let her immaturity and his family background ruin something that could’ve been beautiful. That hurt to watch unfold.
Anika? She got exactly what was coming. You don’t treat someone who show loved and respected you like that and not expect them to walk away. And I’m hoping Paige does right by Krew he deserves better.
Then there’s Tesh… her story broke me. I was so irritated with her choices, but at the same time, my heart ached for her. She was way too young to be going through that kind of abuse . I kept wishing she would open up to someone especially Solai’s mom. The fact that she hid her relationship with Ramon crushed me, and with how the book ended… I was just devastated.
This book had me emotionally wrecked and I mean that in the best way.

I don't care that I am just reading this book and kind read the other books dealing with of these characters first. This is still a really good book. I loved the introduction of each character and how they came about with knowing one another. The bond between the girls is crazy but to see how the men have grown is also really crazy. I see Harvey's point in the relationship with Aunyae. I didn't like how Anika did Krew but wanted to act out when that man got a girl. Juvie and Solai are crazy about each other even in high school. But I really like Ramon and Tesh because he is the happiness in her life when both her boyfriend and mom treat her so bad. That ending was crazy, on to part 2!!!
This book had potential, but the relationships felt rushed, and the drama didn’t always make sense. Solai held onto an old grudge for years, only to fall right into Juvie’s arms despite him having a pregnant girlfriend. Tesh and Ramon’s love story also felt off, they were “secret friends” for three years and fell for eachother, yet she stayed in an abusive relationship when she had people in her corner who could’ve helped and been got rid of him.
The story had its moments, and Krew and Anika were the most interesting potential couple to me, but overall, I just wanted more depth and better character development. If you like fast paced, dramatic romance, you might enjoy it, but it just wasn’t for me!
Disclaimer: I very RARELY read third pov but this one right here I ate it upppppp!!! This is my first time reading anything by Briann & if all her books give this vibe then this series definitely won’t be the last. I liked the fact that the first couple of chapters started out with the main characters in their senior year to establish the characters, their story’s & predict the relationships before fast forwarding 3 year when everybody’s grown grown. Slight spoiler I think Orianna shadier than the shade tree but I’m about to go finish book 2
So far, every book that I have read by this author has been very good. Great even. I haven’t been this entertained by an author that’s new to me in a long time. I will say that these books appear to read better when read in order. All that being said, I’m really upset with myself for having waited so long to read this author’s catalog.
omg the headache lol… im not really feeling juvie and solai .. just my opinion.. Im liking tesh & ra.. she real life need to leave this situation bro.. I’m not understanding it, she’s going in circles fr. aunyae & harvey idk how to feel about them right now either … i see krew finally got enough and “ moved on “ and anika need to stawp her shit fr. love the sibling love going on and the friendships though. ☺️
Young dumb & 21 is all I think about lol. Juvie absolutely works my nerves lol, I started off liking him so much until he bossed up, he really ain’t sh$t 🤣 and Solai is a little naive. I wanna like them together so bad but I just don’t. Juvie is just too arrogant to me personally and Solai… mama’s was a willing side chick, I’m sorry I just can’t get with them. A hood love story is the perfect description cause this so hood sh!t fr lol.
I love the intertwined stories with Tesh, Anika and Aunyae. I’m so invested in their story lines I really be forgetting about Juvie and Solai. I absolutely love this series so far. I do not need to like the main characters to enjoy the story, it actually makes it better to me sometimes. BriAnn Danae is a great writer and she loops you from start to finish.

Omg! This book had me hooked from beginning to end. Love every bit of it. Sad that Juvie is doing both women dirty but we will see what happens next. Great read from this author and I’ll definitely be finishing this series out. Great job! Ramon is my favorite aside from Krew and Harvey plus Juvie.
Just started reading books from this author, and I must say she's becoming one of my favorites. Love the way she take her time with the characters so the reader can really get to know them. Great job this is the second series I'm reading and I'm enjoying it. Glad I decided to give her a try. Keep up the good work. New fan 💖
Ok well this is a good one just enough drama going on but man on man That ending I don’t like some of these characters O please get rid of her soon And the boyfriend that did the shooting Please in the first chapter of the next book let him be dead Poor excuse for a man
This book was great so many secrets I can't wait to start part two. Juvie an Sol were meant to be but he is trying to be conniving like the rest of these fool's team Juv and Sol .
OMG!!! This book is so good, I could not put it down, I can't wait to read the next book. Will Ramon make it? Will Juvie get there in time? Will Tesh get away from her situation ?
What a twisted ass story line this is turning into solai love affair with juvie is a messed up one. Along with her friend tesh and his brother i can't wait to read the rest of the series to find out who's informing o about juvies whereabouts.
It was a decent read. Could benefit from a good editor and even though I didn’t care for too many of the characters. This cliffhanger is what’s bringing me back. Oh my lord.
I’m glad I stuck with this. The first 100 pages or so were kinda slow but it picked up. The characters were all betting on my nerves but like the rest of the reviews said, they’re young, so I kept reading. And the ending, whew! I’m about to binge book 2.
