SS5H1 The student will explain the causes, major events, and consequences of the Civil War.
d. Describe the roles of Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Jefferson Davis, and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson.
c. Identify major battles and campaigns: Fort Sumter, Gettysburg, the Atlanta Campaign, Sherman’s March to the Sea, and Appomattox Court House.

A great supplemental text that can be used to describe the battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. This book includes important historical figures(Lincoln, Lee, Grant, and Davis) with pictures, their roles in the battle and Civil War.

Students could have group discussions about role of historical figures involved in the battle at Gettysburg. This book will also help students describe the battle at Gettysburg and its significance. The teacher can also use this text to stress the importance of the battle at Gettysburg or use it as play or re-enactment discussing the road to Gettysburg and the battle in detail.

I had to read this book, for my history class but I actually enjoyed reading it. I like learning about history and I thought this book was an interesting way to learn about the battle of Gettysburg. Good nonfiction read.
