Don't miss this fateful reader-favorite novella by New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis.
Accountant Chloe Cooper laughs when a fortune teller predicts that her life is about to be transformed by true love—and that her karma is about to take a nosedive. Until Chloe walks straight into her former lover, FBI agent Ian McCall.
Ian is even more handsome and more built than he was before, and neither can deny that the attraction between them is still intense. But Ian is being very secretive about why he's suddenly back in Chloe's life. Is this the fortune teller's first prediction coming true…or the second?
Jill Shalvis is a NYT, USA Today, and Amazon Top 100 bestselling author of small-town romance and romcoms, known for big feels, found family, and plenty of shenanigans.
If you love small-town chaos, meddling friends and neighbors, sizzling chemistry, and heroes who fall hard for the one woman they absolutely did not plan on, you’re in the right place. Jill’s books blend laugh-out-loud moments with emotional gut punches, slow-burn tension, and deeply earned happily ever afters.
She writes the stories she loves to read: small-town romance and romantic comedies packed with heart, heat, second chances, grumpy/sunshine sparks, and the kind of found-family vibes that make you want to move right into the pages. Many of her series are perfect for binge-reading, and a number of her books are available in Kindle Unlimited and at major retailers.
When she’s not writing, she’s probably plotting new ways to torture her characters, avoiding laundry, or daydreaming about fictional men and the strong, complicated women who bring them to their knees—and then making them work for it.
You can follow Jill here on Goodreads to keep up with new releases, add her books to your shelves, and discover which small town you want to get lost in next.
It’s 69 pages originally published in the anthology “Jinxed!”
I liked it better being part of the anthology than as a stand alone. $1.99 is a lot to pay for 69 pages. I’d prefer the publisher reprint the entire anthology (3 stories). Those three stories went well together with three heroines visiting the same psychic Madame Karma.
I bought this on 3/31/17 for $1.99. Since then several 5 star reviews were posted on Amazon. As of 4/4/17 the Kindle price was $4.99.
The back story is: several years ago Chloe and Ian were a couple, but their careers and geography separated them. This story begins with Chloe seeing Ian at an outdoor festival. She approaches him and says Hi. He pretends not to know her because he is undercover (as an FBI agent). There wasn’t enough romantic relationship development for me – either in the back story or the current story. I’d take either one. This story is mostly good guys vs bad guys FBI-ish stuff. Then the couple is together at the end.
I did not like the psychic reading from Madame Karma. It was too vague and did not make the story more interesting. The psychic said “True love is going to walk into your life tonight. You can’t change your destiny by being in denial. You’ll seek him out. Watch your back because your karma is heading south for the winter. It’s what happens when people laugh at their fortune. Their karma takes a vacation to the Bahamas. Your love life? Consider it cursed.” This reading was confusing and did not work well for this story.

I am rating this on merit and not the price of an ebook. (Though I feel books under 100 pages should be 99 cents). I like Jill Shalvis' writing. This was a very short cute story. Kind of left hanging out there at the end, but after all it is a Harlequin shorty. They are never going to be five star books for me. I liked Chloe and Ian. I really wish it would have been a longer story so that the plot had a chance to develop fully.
JUNTOS OTRA VEZ? Protagonistas: Ian McCall y Chloe Cooper Argumento:
This is a cute & very quick read. One of Jill's early stories is so good. It has suspense along with romance. Chloe & Ian were high school sweethearts & were separated then reunited on Valentine's Day. Romance rekindled & love conquered.
Una historia corta muy linda. Chloe, se consigue una adivina el día de San Valentín, que le da un pronóstico que no espera. Ian McCall Su antiguo amor se encuentra investigando a sus clientes.
This is the SECOND book of Jill Shalvis’s I have put down this week for taking the Lords name in vain. I WON’T finish books with that or F-Bombs in them.
This was a very quick, average read. I am only giving it three stars because I was able to read it for free through my library. In my opinion, it is not worth the $4.99 Kindle cost. It took me 45(ish) minutes to read the 69 pages. I am writing this review a few hours later and nothing really stands out as memorable or especially Shalvis-esque. Copyright date 2007 ~ the short story is 83% of the Kindle download followed by a sneak preview by another author.
