Book One The year is 2025. A techhead terrorist group called the Anarch has unplugged the world. While the globe struggles to get out of the darkness, a chemist, Dr. Mikale Warres—bitter about his dismissal from one of the world’s most successful corporations, Emerge Tech—unleashes a plague that turns human organs to ash. He hopes to wipe out the population and restart it. Only one scientist, Dr. Foster Ashby, can find the cure. He’s been searching for it, but it remains just out of reach. Warres knows Foster is close to stopping his plans for the globe and decides Foster must die. Immediately. Officer Darina Lazitter is assigned to protect Foster after he takes too long in the city getting samples of Warres’s disease. The job is simple—get Foster safely back behind Emerge Tech’s walls. Shielding him from her heart, however, is proving harder than shielding him from the enemy.

Christine DePetrillo can often be found hugging trees, conversing with dragonflies, and walking barefoot through sun-warmed soil. She finds joy in listening to the wind, bathing in moonlight, and breathing in the fragrances of things that bloom. If she had her way, the sky would be the only roof over her head.

Her love of nature seeps into every story she tells. As does her obsession with bearded mountain men who build, often smell like sawdust, and know how to cherish the women they love. Today she writes tales meant to make you laugh, maybe make you sweat, and definitely make you believe in the power of love.

She lives in Vermont with her husband and cat who defend her fiercely from all evils.

Christine DePetrillo is an auto buy for me so even though this is not the usual genre I enjoy I went ahead and bought Safe. I am so glad I did! This story is full of suspense and romance set in 2025. The world has been plagued, first with terrorist attacks and then with a terrible virus. One man Dr. Foster Ashby has the best chance to put a stop to the virus. Boston police detective Darina has been hired to keep Foster safe while he hunts for the cure. They are attracted to each other but for a variety of reasons fight the feelings they have. Until they have no choice but to trust each other with their lives and their hearts. I loved Darina, she was spunky and sassy and very, very tough (but in a good-must protect my loved ones-way). I loved the secondary characters and can't wait to read their stories in up coming books. And I really really really loved Foster, the geeky romantic scientist.

Get this book! Highly recommended!!

Interesting tech and real bad guy madman. Meh on the world building. Blah for the instant romance and mushy ending. Semi interesting cliff hanger.

Generally, Sci-Fi books are not my cup of tea, but I really like this author's style of writing as I found out in her novel, More Than Pancakes. The fact that SAFE was offered as a “freebie” was a nice incentive.

If a writer can engage the reader with an interesting plot and exciting characters, so these people live on in our minds long after we've finished the book, that's everything to me.

I loved Dr. Foster Ashby, brilliant scientist and vulnerable sexy man who found his other half in policewoman, Darina Lazitter. Ghared, Zeke, Mareea and the others are family, in the truest sense. The world in 2025, not so far into the future, is a scary place. The dialogue kept me moving the pages quickly, with the story building to a nice crescendo.

In an extremely different time, Ms. DePetrillo has created a very dark world, where emotions still rule, for good and evil. Kudos for a HEA, while moving forward with future books in this series.

Intriguing dystopian story i would have enjoyed more if the bedroom door had been closed and the language had fewer vulgarities. I was into the story enough that I finished it despite the things i found objectionable. Strong characters and storyline.

This is not really my type of story, but I liked it enough to finish.

Great dystopian world. Sexy hero. Excellent writing. Ms DePetrillo grabbed me by the heart and didn't let go until The End. Loved it! Will be looking for more from this author.

I received a free copy of this book from eBook Discovery. This is my honest, voluntary review.

Loved it. Classic good vs. evil plot. I usually steer really clear of anything "dystopian," which this novel was. But I like this author a lot and have read many of her books - some contemporary and some suspenseful - and I have to say this was a wonderful surprise for me. I loved how the characters had depth and substance, and I did not see the twist coming at around 75%. I did wish for more background story on the whole "unplugging of the world" and Foster and Mikale's prior relationship. The resolution also went down a bit too fast and could have been a little more drawn out and therefore suspenseful. Despite my criticism though, this book was great. For me, a big factor in a five star rating is if I keep thinking about it when I'm not reading. And I did. A lot. I encourage "non-dystopians" like myself to give it a try.
