Heir to Greece’s biggest crime family Kat Makris’ life is scheduled to explode when she’s catapulted into a counterfeiter’s deadly path, in this hilarious fourth installment of the Greek Mafia series.
After a covert attempt to buy Marika a pregnancy test fails, everyone in Greece wants to know who is the father of Kat’s baby? If a rampant case of mistaken pregnancy isn’t bad enough, an encounter with Greece's National Intelligence Agency turns sour fast, and soon Kat finds herself stuck in Naples, Italy, with a probably-pregnant Marika and a crime lord’s nephew for company. No money. No food. Working cellphone? Fuggedaboutit. What they do have is a gun, thanks to their new—and suspect—guardian angel, a hobo with urinary issues and what used to be a very nice coat.
There’s no way out of Naples; not in their condition. Not unless Kat can scrounge up some intelligence—which is even more difficult than it sounds, given the company she's keeping—for the NIS. Unfortunately the way out involves a deadly game of cops, forgers, and bakers.
Hot cop Detective Nikos Melas can't save her, and the equally tasty, far more deadly Xander is busy watching over Grandma, who is in the hospital after a table-dancing incident gone awry. Which leaves Kat on her own, more or less, to strike a deal with Mario Fontana, a criminal with Camorra connections ... and a professional relationship with Kat's missing father.
Somewhere between Stephanie Plum and Michael Corleone you'll find Kat Makris. In Crime is a humorous look at family—and Family—and how far we're willing to bend for those we sort of, maybe like.
There's never a dull moment with Kat and company. She comes out of bad situations with flying colors, always looking out for her peeps and sometimes the bad guys, too I'm reading the series for the second time from the beginning, and I've recommended the books countless times. king is a skilled writer, the books are filled with humor, and yet the characters still touch the heart
I adore this series, and love how Kat is trying to adapt to her crazy new family as well as keep to her own code (no killing innocents) while her grandma is steering her into taking over the family at some stage.
Hera is still a bitch. Her obsession with Melas takes a surprising turn, and she still has it in for Kat. I’m hoping that Kat becomes a little more proactive in the future regarding her own safety because I’m a little over the whole damsel in distress routine that she often finds herself in. Still, I’m really enjoying the storyline, and (most of) the characters.
2020 bk 355. When Kat is found with a pregnancy test, the word quickly spreads that she has done the deed and is pregnant (it's not her by the way). Perhaps this is what set off her arch nemesis, Hera of the NIS, in any case, it is shortly after this that Kat and Marika are knocked unconscious and wake to find themselves in Naples, Italy. No purse, no cell phone, no nothing. Nothing, until Donk comes along, they find themselves shadowed by the Armani Hobo, and then taken up by a cheesy Italian mobster who wants millions for his counterfeiting program. Kat has questions, particularly about her father who had been spotted in Italy, but no one seems to have the answers.
Another delightful Kat story full of crime, and hot guys! I love all of Alex A. King's books! This series is fast paced, full of hilariousness and once again makes the reader choose to put aside any and all responsibilities to read the latest book. Great ending and can't wait for the next book to be available!! Hurry! I had planned to shirk responsibility today but since I don't see the newest book out yet I guess I will have to do the stuff I'm supposed to today. Who is the malakas holding up the book? Where is the Greek mafia when we need them?
Another entry in the Kat Makris series that features the usual aspects. Insights into Greek culture especially curse words and lurid gestures, tons of Greek food, half of which no Greek restaurant in your city offers, funny characters that belong to criminal organizations or even law enforcement, tons of funny dialogue or descriptions (my favorite were the Makris farm and the offices of an old olive oil factory).
In this one, the NIS agent Hera kidnaps Kat and Marika to drop them off in Naples, where they are apparently supposed to infiltrate the Camorra and investigate their counterfeiting business. While in real life they make the Mafia seem like poster boys of a healthy law-abiding lifestyle, in this book the Camorra is represented by a closeted homosexual named Mario, who marries Camorra widows with good-looking sons. The Kat Makris series, of course, is about humor and not realism. Mario is about as threatening as a small (designer-clad) child throwing a tantrum. Which is a good thing since Kat's only backup is Donk and the Armani Hobo.
The book offers the usual barrage of gags, which either hit or miss. To be perfectly honest, everybody believing that Kat was the pregnant one instead of Marika was getting old fast. Instead of letting this gag slowly die, the author went to some length to keep it going such as Kat picking up Marika's discarded positive pregnancy test from the beach and putting it in her pocket. Seriously, who does that? The effeminate Mario and his loathing family (wife and father) were also a mixed bag. However, the conversations with Hera, for the most part, were really fun.
In conclusion, the author has a bunch of running gags going that I still haven't grown tired off, the new material, however, had its ups and downs. The ending is the kind of non-cliffhanger that I hate on TV shows. Overall, it was funny enough that I will continue reading this series though. Especially as the author's descriptions of Greek summers go so well with the weather we're currently having in Europe.
Such a waste. This author has real talent when it comes to story-telling. Too bad she can't seem to force herself to hire a good proof-reader and/or editor to catch the obvious (and I mean O.B.V.I.O.U.S.) errors. It's too bad she has so little faith in her ability to write stories with a new focus that she still, after four books in the series, can't seem to find Kat's father, consumate the relationship with Melas (which may be a good thing, as she makes Kat sexualize pretty much every attractive man she runs across), and, once again, lacks confidence that anyone will read her work if she doesn't have a cliffhanger ending.
Last time I swore I wouldn't purchase the 4th book in the series, but I did. But with this cliffhanger ending I think I really am done.
Psst -- Ms. King. I know some folks don't mind the cliffhangers like I do. But for gods' sake, get a proof reader who knows what she is doing...
I love this series. It reminds me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, but not quite as over-the-top. Plum sometimes comes off as pretty dense. Kat Makris may do things that aren't the best idea, but she has a reason for it.
Kat is still searching for her father, and finding out new shockers about his life. All the usual characters are back in this book, and a few new ones added. I'm a little worried about Grandma right now. She fell and broke her hip. That's dangerous in a woman her age. She may be head of the biggest organized crime family in Greece, and deadly if she's mad at you, but I still like her.
The last page of this book was a real shocker. Shocking enough that I'm headed out to buy the next one immediately. That pile of books calling my name will have to wait. Is Kat okay? I'll find out soon.
I am really enjoying these series of books. This was better than the last and I am on my way to the next. Haven't looked it up yet so that may be a pipe dream. Anyway, the series is fun and light hearted and page turning and all those things you would love to pass the time... I think an especially fun summer read.
This one didn't flow as nicely as the previous books. The events at the start seem pointless until all is revealed in the end. It was still excellent with a great ending. Kat stumbles around the place from one disaster to another followed by her crazy entourage, leading to much hilarity. On to the next one as the end of this novel is a proper cliff hanger
Funny, sometimes a little forced, but overall well rounded. The Maria as a bodyguard plot develops nicely and there are some great laugh out loud ridiculous moments. Solid writing and decent pace but once again a star is docked for an unnecessarily unresolved cliffhanger to force the reader to buy another book. Feeling a bit squeezed.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series and I can't wait for more books to come out. It's really captured me. It's fun, with a crazy family, and hijincks that most of us will never understand. And I LOVE IT!
Oh how I am enjoying this series. Kat is a fantastic character and I personally find her hilarious! I laughed out loud on many occasions in this book and wow...what an ending...love love love it.
Excellent book! This finds Kat in Naples with no money or phone. Love the trouble she falls into and the wacky characters. If course this means you cannot put the book down until finished!
Katerina’s adventures get wilder and wilder and I love each and every one! This one left a huge clif-hanger and now I have to wait for the next book—eeek.
That ending though... talk about cliffhanger. There had best be a next book! Excellent series, personal growth, ridiculous situations, excellent pop references, flirtations, deadly enemies, catfights, and lots of snark.
Funny, great light reading, keeps you hanging & going straight to the next book in the series...check them out if your not offended by serious cursing & foul name calling- it's all about the Greek Mob.
Kat and the Family are hilarious!!! I've been sucked in and must finish. The interactions between Kat and the supporting characters is awesomely wacky!!! More books 📚 here I come!😍
Yes, this series continues on its merry way. This author just yanks my sense of humour.
I did note, however, that there seems to be a number of misspelling or missing words etc starting to creep in more regularly. (it did start doing so in book 3 - Doing Crime)
Not my favorite. I felt that there were too many new characters, and sometimes Katerina just doesn't think. Still it's only been a month or so, and this is completely beyond her experience. Despite everything, she does achieve some interesting solutions. On to the next one!
I love Kat's relationship with her cousins and extended family, and the humor with which the author tells the story. Another fun tale as Kat (still) tries to find her kidnapped father.
This has been one of the best!! I couldn’t care less about a couple of typos. Alex King writes funny , witty books and definitely looking forward to the next!!
Irreverent, but laughs galore! A.A.King’s style makes all the action unfold as if you were there. Start with book one of this series to get the most laughs.
