“The Black Vault” part one! When a mysterious and definitely super-important cosmic item falls out of the heavens and into enemy hands, America has only one option: Task Force X, Amanda Waller’s strike team of incarcerated super-criminals. A one-stop-shop for plausibly deniable espionage and ultra- violence, this “Suicide Squad” only handles missions they’re not expected to survive. An insane new era of SUICIDE SQUAD begins here with superstar artist Jim Lee and red-hot writer Rob Williams (UNFOLLOW, MARTIAN MANHUNTER).

There are actually two stories in here:
The Black Vault (first part) - in which the Suicide Squad is tasked with retrieving or destroying an alien object in possession of a Russian country.
➁ Deadshot's file - in which we get to see how Lawton got caught.

As soon as the first story starts, it ends. I didn't care much for it. I'm curious as to how June Moone got into Belle Reve because she doesn't seem to know where she is. And isn't Enchantress supposed to have unlimited powers? How come she cannot lose Waller's bomb?
At least Katana washes her hair in the comics. I really disliked her hair in the movie.

Deadshot's story is the interesting part in this issue. Just as with the movie, it was Batman who sent him to prison, but the circumstances are completely different.
Thank the stars that he doesn't look like Will Smith! I prefer the comics version to the movie one.

Also, I like the art style. I'm definitely pursuing the series.

Feel like this could've done a much better job of setting up the story and characters but it was kinda average to be honest. I liked how the characters looks were based off how they are in the movie as it added to the characters because it was like I already knew them and their story. Harley playing Pokemon go has to be the best part about this issue!

So, the main story was a little heavy with the motivation explanation dialogue, but all in all not bad.

The backstory for Deadshot in the back was actually a lot more interesting, for me.

Barely an introduction to the team. it was strange to see Enchantress join the team. Side story of Deadshot is interesting...I liked Deadshot's comics version better than movie.

Very good! While I liked the movie, this version builds from that. Team members closely match the movie, but the mission is more like Mission Impossible than Ghostbusters. Jim Lee as always does a stellar job with his art. Jump on board now (better yet, with the Suicide Squad Rebirth (2016) #1 by Rob Williams . This series has always had a huge potential, they can literally go anywhere with this story.

I know the movie wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed the characters so much it doesn't matter.

Truth be told this is the first Suicide Squad comic I've ever bought or owned.

It's not a perfect comic, but who cares. I had a good time reading it and the characters just work for me.

5 stars! Cheers!

I love the idea of showing some episodes of the characters lives before the squad especially the relation that they have with some superheroes.

I actually really liked this. It's mostly all just set-up, but it was set-up I enjoyed, and I'm looking forward to see where it goes.

This concept is overplayed and Harley is overexposed, but I love Deadshot, and the last half focus on him was great!

The 7 page Deadshot backup story was more interesting ( with art by Fabok) then the main 13 page Amanda Waller narrated, mission over explanation story.

'Suicide Squad #1' by Rob Williams and Jim Lee seems to be a reboot with characters that look a bit like they do in the current movie. It's an interesting setup, but the whole first issue feels a bit like a set up.

With the discovery of a strange item falling from space, the Suicide Squad is activated. These are bad guys who are completely expendable and have decent fighting skills. They are all equipped with a device to be used in the event they decide to act bad or try to escape. On the current team are Deadshot, Killer Croc, Boomerang, Enchantress and Harley Quinn. Managing them in the field are Rick Flagg and Katana. Things start to go sideways from the beginning when their insertion into a foreign country goes haywire. Can the mission succeed?

There is also a second short story with an origin type story of Deadshot. This felt a little more coherent than the main story, which, as I mentioned, feels a lot like a set up for future things to come. The Jim Lee art was good. The story was just kind of there, but I enjoyed reading it.

I received a review copy of this issue from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this comic book.

I was never a comic book reader but that is changing, and fast. D.C. Comics has me hooked and Suicide Squad is just the latest in the awesome comics I have read from their publishing house. Suicide Squad The Black Vault is part of D.C. Rebirth (this gives you all the back stories on all of the characters in the comic, awesome for people like me new to the series), has all of the characters that you know and love or will get to know and love, like Capt. Flag, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc, Boomerang, Enchantress, Katana, and Waller, not to mention all the gruesome bad guys. This was a awesome action packed first edition and I can't wait for the next.

Not a bad issue the ending saved what was a very slow beginning. Enjoyed seeing the Deadshot storyline and his connection to Batman. The suicide squad haven't hit their stride yet but the players are all there. I'm not sold on this series yet but time will tell
