Wait, that IS the hellbat armor in the cover? I never realized that until reading this issue. Awesome.

Batman didn't wear the cursed armor though, it was somebody else. This issue is full to the brim with action. But too bad because I find the Eradicator a really boring villain. He's that character that you always find annoying because of giving grandiose speeches.

Issue five reminds us that this arc is ultimately a family affair. Lois and Jon are pretty badass here.

Really great also. I'm so glad it wasn't Batman in the Hellbat, but I hope there is some consequence for Superman doing... whatever it was he did. And after this arc I'm really bummed that Super Sons got pushed back til next year, but hopefully that means it will be amazing when it does come out.

Peter Tomasi and patrick Gleason run with Superman has been very very inconsistent but this issue was probably the duos best work with the title .

Superman has been taking a page out of batman's book and somehow managed to find out about a secret bat-cave Batman has built in the freaking Moon Crater with all type of Arsenal that are even good enough to take down Superman (maybe?) .

Superman although is has to take a leave of absence for a while as the new incarnation of Superboy(?) Jon and Lois take on the Eradicator and successfully hold him for a while but that is just enough for the tables to turn .

Patrick Gleason's art has never looked this good , and granted it's still not as good as many of the other works in the DC universe but it's definitely a step up from how things looked in the previous issues .

The Arc is finally reaching a climax with a possible conclusion very nearby and things are looking up , infact if it all goes right the first arc of Superman might just be a success and none will even remember the dissapointment of how badly this all started

Okay, this series had a rocky start, in my opinion. And while the last issue's art wasn't to my liking, bringing back Bibbo was a huge positive for me as a reader.

Now, this issue? He may have me hooked. That is, if he can keep this as a "Super Family" book more than a Superman book. The dynamic of the family is way more interesting than the fight between Eradicator and Kal-El.

In an effort to separate the Eradicator from where he can do damage and injure innocents, Superman heads to the moon. With Lois and Jonathan in a pressurized submersible, they arrive at a hidden Batcave on the dark side of moon. The Eradicator manages to absorb Superman, leaving only Lois to stand between him and her son!

As if the souls of Lost Krypton wasn’t enough of a stretch last issue, now we have a huge Batcave complex on THE MOON for me to believe in! Yeesh! I know Bruce Wayne is a rich guy with a lot of power and reach, but this is just too far again! Tomasi and Gleason are really stretching my limits here. Now, I gotta say, 10 year old me would have thought this whole thing was pretty cool....the adult me is a little harder to convince.

Now, I really did enjoy the idea of Lois and Jonathan having to use their wits and items at hand to fight against the Eradicator. It was fairly convenient, however, that a super-strong Bat Armor happened to be right there and Lois just kind of knew how to use it! Again, cool, but kind of cringe-worthy as a convenient plot point.

Doug Mahnke’s art is a saving grace here. I’ve always enjoyed his art and this issue is not exception. In fact, Mendoza’s inks really add something to the definition and soft line work that make the details really come alive. The souls are suitably creepy and the Bat Armor is suitably cool and menacing. Jonathan gets a lot of attention this issue and has some great facial expressions that make several pages worth seeing just for that. And even though I’m not fond of the souls idea, Rocafort does a great job on the variant cover making them seem dangerous and scary. Very impressive outing on the art.

While I’m enjoying the idea of this story, certain elements are dragging it down for me.

Superman takes his family to the moon so that he can he can keep them & the people of Metropolis safe. Also, he wants to fully unleash his power on the Eradicator so he can destroy him for good.

Superman puts his family in one of the moon's crater that Batman has fully developed, which Batman created so that he can perform his experiments without harming his Gotham citizens (and others).

While fighting the Eradicator, Superman is absorbed & his family has to hold it down. Superman ends up absorbing the Kryptonians souls to weaken the Eradicator & take him down.

I love reading about The Kent Family external drama and how they deal with it.

Is it too much to expect something greater from this arc? I feel a bit down from this. As always, there is action in this but the whole story is not remarkable. I almost forgot where the story is leading to considering that I've skipped reading for like two days. I've already put my hopes down on this.

I had my doubts with how #4 ended how #5 would really work but Tomasi/Gleason did a great job on #5. If I had to guess, I would say there is maybe one more issue in this arc but who knows. Overall this has been a great arc and this issue, in particular, had some great moments. The art is still what makes me get this comic every 2 weeks. My main praise is that the ads for this issue were spaced out much better than previous DC issues.

El enemigo sigue sin ser ni un poco carismático pero la familia Sups es bonica como pocas cosas en el mundo. La parte de Lois me ha llegado al corazoncito, para levantarse y aplaudirla amigos.

This issue saved the entire arc. By far the best issue of the story. Aside from the eradicator's repetitive lines to Jon, this felt like a fleshed out scene of a family finally coming together. Hellbat suit integration was awesome. Jon felt full of character in the chase scene and fight follow up with badass mom. The Kryptonians played a more significant role in this than I thought they would, but Supes being out the picture for a time gave way to the story's best moments. Very enjoyable read.
