When eighteen-year-old cousins, Julie and Mary Anne Adler, are plummeted onto a grassy field surrounded by a post-apocalyptic world, they have no idea where they are, or how they got there. In this unfamiliar wasteland run by a group of refugees called the Sector, the girls search for answers.
But things get complicated when one of the men in the Sector finds himself enamored with Julie. Despite Julie’s own feelings toward him, she knows she and her cousin must return home. Now it’s up to them to find a way to escape this strange and isolating place…
Bria Starr grew up in a small town in Minnesota and continues to live there with her family. She’s a quiet person with an infinite imagination, loves junk food, and is always cold. Her favorite things include reading, writing, listening to music, and watching too many movies.
All I can say is, I don't plan on entering any caves after reading this. Good read, although nothing happened or ended the way I wanted it to. Didn't matter because the plot was strong. Freaking heroine didn't do nothing I I kept yelling for her to do but somehow this author made it all work out. Not sure how I felt about Jared and the cousin. They were kind of useless baggage. Whatever. I do recommend this book to you time traveling dystopian junkies.
Loved this book so much! It pulled me in from the very beginning - such a unique story! From the prologue I was hooked. Julie & Mary Anne's road trip is definitely an interesting one and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.
The author does an excellent job at painting a picture as you read so you can easily visualize everything. Not only do you 'see' the story, you feel as if you are experiencing it, right along with the amazing cast of characters. (Dibs on Scout)
This story is well-written and you can't help but enjoy every minute of it. You get a perfect combination of thrilling action, heart-squeezing moments, and a touch of sweetness - all revolving around this mystery that is Ingress. A very entertaining and enjoyable read!
This dystopian novel was more than just a story - it was an adventure. Fabulous job, Bria!! I'm so glad you had that dream. <3 p.s. Scout is mine.
I LOVED this book! I have read and enjoyed all of Bria Starr's books, but this one is my favorite. I wasn't sure what to think going into it because I knew it was different than anything she's written before. I was definitely not disappointed. Once I started reading The Divided, I couldn't put it down. I had to see what was going to happen next. I love all of the characters, but I have to admit that Scout is my favorite. I may have a little crush on him! Great story!
The Divided was so good. Bria does an excellent job of making you actually see the same thing the characters are seeing. I was able to picture the scenery, the characters and everything else. She was able to keep my attention and made me want to keep reading to find out what happened next. I did not see the ending coming at all, so be prepared, it's probably not what you think! The Divided is so well written and so not over the top in any aspect, it's very believable to be honest. I feel it has just the right about of everything...details to make you picture the scenes, the characters and action. I would highly recommend this book to everybody.
The Divided is the story of cousins, Julie and Mary Anne who decide to go on a roadtrip and wind up getting more than they bargained for when they get caught in a bad storm in Colorado on their way to California from Iowa. I will never look at Colorado the same way again! If you're looking for an action packed story this one covers it as well as the romance aspect if you're looking for that.
So. Good. I mean, I wish there was a second book so I could find continue living in this realm. I really enjoyed the world building that Bria did. Sometimes authors seem to have a hard time world building and she did it. I found all of the relationships that were built throughout the story were set up in a really good way.
I don't think I can say enough good things about this book and I def. do not want to give anything away. If you haven't read it yet, you need to.
This was my first Dystopian book that I have read and it knocked my socks off! I was on sitting on pins and needles with my jaw clamped tight for most of the book!
Let The Divided take you along on the journey of Julie and Mary Anne as they take a trip of a lifetime from Iowa to California. Things take a turn when they literally fall into Ingress. There are challenges of comfort and survival, suffering and rebelling, to give up and stay or fight like hell to get out!
The dynamics between all the characters in this story are wonderful, even the “bad” or “gruff” ones. There is violence, but was done in good taste...if one can even say that. The scenes with violence in them are not totally graphic or gruesome, just to the point.
I received this book for a fair and honest review. This book was a breath of fresh air! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would! Bria Starr is a new to me author and I loved every minute of this book. I read every type of book out there but it isn't too often I get the chance to read a fantasy/ sci fic book! When I started the book I thought I would just get a couple chapters in for the night and ended up finishing it! I will be picking up another Bria book!!!
I reviewed this book for an honest review. Bria Starr is a new author to me, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The ending was nothing like I expected. The entire book kept me from the beginning to the end! Loved it!
I devoured this story. Bria Starr's The Divided was just as difficult to put down as it is good. The story is multifaceted with so many characters and secrets, all held together by the towering walls of Ingress. A must read!
Wow nothing like falling down a rabbit hole into another time and place and that is exactly what cousins Julie and Mary Anne have happen to them. Now they fight to stay alive and get back home against very bad odds.
I received an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
I been waiting for another book by Bria Starr since I read her last book. I was starting to think she'd never finish writing her 3rd book. But, she did. And, man this was so different from her first 2 books. In my opinion she nailed it!! I mean. She killed it. I was glad I got this book when I did. It wasn't the romance, full of sex and secrets kind of stories I had been reading for awhile now.
Julie and Mary Anne Adler are cousins and driving cross country. They're going from Iowa to California. While in Colorado they hit a horrible storm. One that they can't drive thru and they have no choice but to pull over on the side of the road. When the girls seek hideout in a cave their world gets turned upside down when they fall down a hole into a different world.
When an old beat up truck shows up and out jumps a bunch of guys with guns the girls realize something is definitely wrong. When they're told the leader they call Ender will be with them they're hoping for answers. But, when all they get is questions they are even more confused.
The head guy from the Sector who goes by the name Scout shows them to their house they have a lot of questions and still not receiving any answers. All they know is they need to get home. They just don't know how. All they know is only few buildings and houses have electric and water. Everybody gathers in one big hall to eat and hang out. They're given jobs. And, that the place they're at is call Ingress.
Most people aren't happy or trust them. They're known as outsiders. Few ppl speak to them. Scout, Quill, her daughter Cricket and 2 other outsiders best friends Evan and Jared. They got there a few months before them. Jared and Mary Anne quickly shack up and are content. Julie on the other hand wants out of Ingress. But, she's stuck between Scout and Jared. Which OMG I'd love to be the meat and them the bread to my sandwich lol. No matter what she'll do whatever she has to and doesn't care how long it takes her to get her home.
I read this book in a few sitings. I never wanted it to end. There was so many things about the book that I loved. It was such an awesome dystopian read. For it being Bria's first time writing this type of book. She killed it. It had me guessing and questioning the whole book!
When I finished this I sat back and closed my kindle. This is a standalone read. But, this is more then a book. It's a story. A story that's just beginning. I'm greedy. I want a prequel. I need to know how Ingress came to be what it was. And, I want more period. I hope Bria's reading this. She needs to message me Bc I can give her like three or so more stories. Yes, I said that LOL. This is my favorite book by her so far!! I wish I could give this more then 5 stars on Amazon and Goodreads. Bc, that's how much I loved it. Can't wait for her next book.
A unique YA/Dystopian book that keeps the pages turning.
How does an ordinary road trip lead to such extraordinary circumstances? How can a world change so drastically in just an instant?
Learning to live in a world that was never supposed to be yours while never giving up hope of returning home...Trusting unlikely friends...doing what is right, not what is easy.
A bit of a love triangle going on in this book and it was great to see how it all played out. Will be interested to see which of the guys the readers like best!
Action Loss Heat
An ending I think most readers will be pleased with.
WOW!!!! Seriously, how do you even write a review for a book that was as incredible as this one? I was instantly hooked from the cover and blurb, and I kept re-reading the blurb over and over while I anxiously awaited to get my hands on the book. When it finally came I did a big dance of joy, and as soon as I opened to page one I was sucked into this amazing world that I never wanted to leave from. The writing, the characters, the visuals that the words gave you...everything was so well done! It was the perfect blend of romance and action/suspense.
When Julie and Mary Anne go on a road trip, they never expected it to turn out the way it did. They literarily fell into a completely different world. The town, Ingress was fully of mystery and as you read you could never truly figure out what was going to happen. And, just when you thought you did...BAM...another surprise! The twists and turns just kept on coming and this is what kept me gripping my kindle until the very end.
The ending? Man, I was NOT expecting it to end that way, but I loved it! It's been a couple weeks since I finished reading this book, and I still can't decide which team I am on....I loved BOTH men in Julie's life! But, with that being said, I don't think the ending could have been more perfect....unless it said BOOK 2 COMING SOON! (Seriously, there NEEDS to be a sequel to this book!!!!)
I received an ARC of this book and have been waiting impatiently to write a review. I loved Bria's other two books so when she mentioned she was writing a dystopian novel, I was intrigued. Well, she just about blew my mind. The book was amazing. The characters were easy to fall in love with and very well developed. The storyline was extremely fast paced and held my interest throughout the whole book. I highly recommend this book, especially if you enjoyed The Hunger Games and Divergent. This book is just as good and could easily be made into a movie. The writing was alive and vivid and I'd love to see the story brought to the big screen. The concept of two girls going on a trip and running into a cave to get out of a storm only to fall into another world was fabulous. I really hope that Bria adds more to this story or more like this to her books. She really out did herself on this one. You will really love this book.
Sooo I've been done reading this for like a week. I normally write reviews right when I finish a book. But this time, I have had absolutely No Idea what the heck to say. I really still don't, so I'll do my best right now. It's very hard to put into to words without using spoilers to explain why & how much I flipping LOVED this book. Julie & Mary Anne go on this crazy journey! I was sitting here all tensed up just waiting to see what the heck was going to happen & the ending? Holy. Moly. I didn't see that coming! This book is one that I could literally could not put down. The story had me completely hooked. & I usually don't read any paranormal/sci-fi/fantasy books. But this one, Was. Sooo. Good. So that's pretty much all you get from me. If I keep talking I'll spoil it for everyone. So buy this book, read it, & then you'll understand where I'm coming from.
P.S. This needs to be a movie as well! I know I'm not the first person to say it, because it really should be!
Two cousins out for a road trip take shelter in a cave during a fierce storm. They fall through a "hole" and find themselves in Ingress, an alternative world. Being a newcomer is hard and the girls find themselves on the outskirts of this small community. Mary Anne finds another man attractive right away, seeking comfort with him. She begins adapting to the ways of the inhabitants. Julie, a rebel, however, is constantly seeking answers and a way out. This book was well written, but not the story for me. I found there to be too many unanswered questions and secrets within the community and its hierarchy. I was too busy trying to answer these questions within myself and the plot to really be able to enjoy the story for itself.
If you are looking for a new twist on the Dystopian genre, this book is for you! WARNING:Clear your schedule first because this author will suck you into her world with her character development and fast paced story-line. I absolutely loved the fact that I couldn't decide what way I wanted this book to go. My loyalties shifted while I wavered back and forth between wanting them to escape and hoping they decided to stay...AND don't even get me started on my feelings for Scout! I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for strong writing, unexpected twist and turns and an ending that will have you thinking about it for days!
Such an interesting concept for this book....it definitely pulled me in right from the beginning and kept me intrigued on what will happen next. A little slow at times but the unknown is what kept me plugging away. An enjoyable read & much different than Bria's other books. For fans of dystopian, give this one a shot!
