The ultimate activity book for first time 250 confidence-boosting things you can do with or without your little one
Bookstores are full of activity books for babies and toddlers, but The Rookie Mom’s Handbook is the only one designed exclusively for first-time mothers. Here are 250 enjoyable activities to help rookie moms maintain their individuality and boost their confidence about leaving the house, socializing, and doing things they’ve always liked to do — either with or without baby.
Inspired by the popular blog www.rookiemoms.com, this handbook offers bite-sized activities organized according to the baby’s age. Some are crafty, some are adventurous, and some simply help get a meal on the table.
Full of lively advice and adorable illustrations, The Rookie Mom’s Handbook is the perfect reminder that there’s more to life than dirty diapers and 3 a.m. feedings!
Excellent activity ideas for first-time moms. I started reading this when Max was about a month old, and it was perfect timing. The book made me commit to leaving the house every day, which has done much for my sanity (and, coincidentally, for Max's napping, which he likes to do pretty much only when we're out of the house). Seriously, it was rainy last Thursday, so we couldn't go out till almost 4 pm, and I almost cried. Oh, wait, I did cry.
Most of the activities focus on the mom, rather than the baby, which was a nice change of pace. Definitely good for first-time moms, who may need to be reminded that showering every day or spicing up your outfit by just switching purses are worthy goals that can make you feel like you accomplished something in the day. In the later chapters, there are a few too many suggestions for decorating baby outfits, but other than that, it's a winner. I also like the Rookie Mom website, which has a ton of ideas for activities to do with kids of different ages (thanks, Jenn Koop Wagner, for linking to it about a million years ago on your blog).
Super easy read, the author gives simple advice and tips for new moms. One of the best tips that I have received as a new mom came from this book and I will share it with you, When Mom's need a rest and Dad's are taking care of baby, it is best if the Mom's leave the house. This way the Mom's don't stress and criticize the Dad's who are trying their best and the Mom's can actally take a break.
Perfect for every new mom because it cures the "I'm tired of staring at the baby but I don't know what else to do" blues. Creative, feasible ideas for getting out of the house and making home time more fun.
It was a quick read. Reads a lot like a daily blog, so also easy to put down and pick up. I don't think it was terribly original, but I do think the advice of getting out of the house every day with a baby is a good idea for one's sanity.
This is a great book for any new mom who's feeling like her life is happening around her! Funny and practical advice--and it's broken into little bits, so my brain can handle it!
Awesome! If you know someone who's about to become a "rookie" mom get this for her. Or if you're about to be one yourself, snap it up. Thanks, Rebecca!
As a first-time mom, I really appreciate new ideas of what I can do with my baby. Some of the suggestions in this book don't really apply to me, but it was a fun, easy read.
