A boy and his grandfather are buried in the snow and the trials they endure speak to their faith in God and their reliance on Him. The book is beautifully written and rich in encouragement in the Lord. I read it aloud to my son, but it was heavy and there were some tears (mine, not his).
Listened to this Lamplighter Theater audio book as a family on the way to South Dakota's Black Hills. Lovely story about trust in God no matter how bad things are in your life.
It is said that this story is based on true happenings. Wow.
Of course, this dramatized audio version of the story will not be 100% accurate because the writers have adapted the story for audio purposes, but still.
Of all the Lamplighter Theatre stories, I'd say this one is not my favorite, but it's not my least favorite either. It's quite intense (the premise is rather deceiving), and the acting isn't the very best (though it's probably better than I could do). Still, it gets a solid 4 stars from me.
A beautiful poignant story of a boy and his grandfather who become "buried" by the heavy snowfalls in the mountains, of their struggles, and of their daily reliance on the Lord to provide for both their spiritual and physical needs, to protect them from danger, and to bring them home once more. So many wonderful little lessons! Once again Lamplighter has done a beautiful job with their audio. I haven't been disappointed with one yet!
I listened to the Lamplighter Theatre dramatized audio version of this story with 5 tweens and teens on the way to camp. It wasn't a "bad" story, but it required far too much suspension of reality to really capture our hearts.
Synopsis: A boy and his grandfather get unexpectedly buried by snow in their mountain chalet. They're completely buried. No significant food stores. No water. No outhouse. No fire or wood. And yet they survive. For months. 🤔
If you're willing to set aside the questions begging to be answered, then there's good lessons about fortitude and contentment buried in there.
A suspenseful story that gave me moments of stress and anxiety. The relationship between the boy and his grandfather was uplifting. This story reminds me to never forget that the Lord is with me and in control. TRUST HIM.
Excellent book, a real pageturner. Supposedly based on a true story. I only wish more details had been included. It's hard to understand how they survived so long.
This book is about a young boy and his grandfather who are stuck in a cottage, literally buried in the snow. It tells of the boys adventure of trying to stay alive. I really enjoyed this book.
This was hard for my children to get interested in at first as a read-aloud, but it pulled them in eventually. A wonderful story of perseverance and reliance on God in the midst of struggle.
"Thy will, oh Lord be done," is the poignantly taught theme in this quaint little 1879 book that has just been added to my list of Christmas Classics. I love the setting, the language, the lessons, and the old-fashioned integrity that lies within this treasure. It will be read to my little ones often. The Lamplighter Series was suggested to me by a good friend as books that are pure, innocent, and chuck full of good messages. I'm always on the look out for these kinds of morally relevant stories. This is the first Lamplighter I have read and I am already on the look out for the next one. This isn't technically a Christmas story but it takes place In winter, it passes through Christmas, and it revolves around our Savior and our Heavenly Father. I know a book is good when I know I will never forget a character within its pages. This book mentions that it's based on a true story and the grandfather has worked his way into my heart and memory. I'm thankful for his life and his story.
I listened to the dramatized edition by the Lamplighter Theatre. I must say I REALLY enjoyed this one. It's message was that God is our rock and we need to trust Him, because he has a better plan for us, no matter what trials we may face first. Lamplighter Theatre dramatization are awesome, and I would certainly recommend anyone to listen to them. It's like listening to an "Adventures in Odyssey".
Listened to the radio theatre production with the whole family. This is one of my favorite stories thus far in the Lamplighter series because of the setting, the characters, and the insight into what it means to trust God when your circumstances don’t make sense. Highly recommended.
