There hasn't been a KC Lynn book that I haven't devoured. An Act of Obsession continues the streak of fabulous reads from her. Kolan Slade is Katelyn's brother. He is the heavy weight champion of the EFC world, but over the last year, his life has been hell. Not only was he falsely accused of rape but his sexual preferences that he fulfills at Club Annihilation are public knowledge. He's retired from fighting and just wants to live a quiet life. Hanging around, working at the Men of Honor Center with the rest of the guys suits his needs. He has more than enough money to keep him comfortable and besides, this town is where Katelyn lives.
"When she decided to open her salon here, I followed, because where she goes I go."
Sophie Parish's life is good. She has a nice place to live, a wonderful family, a great roommate and is dating a guy she really has feelings for-but all that changes in an instant. She comes home one night to find her boyfriend and her roommate in bed together. Dead. Coming after her is a man she knew years ago and defended from being bullied-Daniel. Apparently, when she helped him out he fixated on her and she became the object of his obsession. He brutally slashes her throat with every intention of killing her. She can barely hear sirens in the background as she is fading fast.
Little did I know, that one act of kindness would bring me a dangerous obsession.
When she wakes up in the hospital life as she knows it will never be the same. She is horribly disfigured from the attack. But the worst thing is Daniel's escape. He wasn't caught and she knows that she will not be safe, nor will her family. So she leaves all that she knows and loves. Sophie Parish is gone and is replaced by Lia Kay.
Sophie Parish, the girl who loved life and had a dream to dance forever. I'm now Lia Kay-scarred beyond repair and fearful everything.
Lia lands up in Sunset Bay and gets a job working for Cooper McKay the sheriff in town. Cooper knows something is off with her. No matter how hot it is outside, Lia wears a scarf around her neck. Her mannerisms throw off a vulnerable vibe and he knows something terrible happened to her. He suggests that she join the other girls in their circle for a self defense class. Lia stops by the gym herself to ask about private lessons. And that's how she meets Kolan. Instant chemistry but lots of walls between them. They spend a lot of time together, both at the gym and just hanging around. Kolan knows something serious happened to her but he is so damaged he knows he's not what she needs. Lia has heard all about Kolan's problems in the past year but she isn't afraid of him. But she knows that Daniel will eventually find her and that means she can't stay for long. The thought of her leaving makes Kolan crazy.
"You better not ever fucking leave without telling me." My heart kicks up at the way his jaw ticks with fury. "I mean it, Lia. Promise me."
Secrets have a nasty habit of coming out, especially When there's danger involved. Both Kolan and Lia have had to isolate themselves from everyone else because of the damage done to them by others. But can they open themselves up and take the risk that they could be hurt again? Kolan is one gorgeous alpha and there's no way he won't risk everything he has to keep Lia safe. But when he learns the truth and sees how physically scarred she is, and the danger she could bring to his life, will he still want her?
Sometimes the most selfish thing we can do is to stay with someone. Knowing that if they stay with you, they may be giving up the dreams they have always had, just to be with you. Can you let them go?
When the dust settles, will they each be able to fill in the cracks of their broken souls? Would being with each other mean they will have to give up their own dreams? Loved this latest installment of the Acts of Honor series!
I never intended to give her up. It was only nights ago that I was buried in her sweet body, confessing how I would never let anyone take her from me. Yet, here I stand. Alone.
