Wow! A candid straight forward book that is Ty Adams' personal testimony about coming out of fornication, lesbianism, back to fornication into walking into God's plan for her life. I have only made it to mid chapter 2 and have fought back tears each time I begin reading. I've been reading it in my Literacy instruction class during our free reading time and I have to swallow this lump in my throat each time to keep from bursting in tears in the middle of class. It's kind of safe that way because if I read it at home where I can be vulnerable I have to feel my feelings...
The author has made great use of all of the elements of craft we have spoken about in just 2 chapters: words, specificity, character, voice, beginnings, endings, and tension! You can't really go wrong when you speak this candidly about your life and then relate it back to what the word of God says (Bible). I love hearing people stand up for Christ even when they aren't and haven't always done right by what God's word declares.
No, I would not use this book for teaching because the topic is not appropriate for the audience of elementary school students. It would be controversial to even have it in high school because I may be viewed as "pushing my religion" on someone just by having it in the classroom.
