Romance doesn’t fit into Camden Alexander’s hazardous line of work… A DEA agent, Camden is deep undercover, posing as a chef on a dangerous drug operation. He wants to take down Darrell Weberley, the owner of the Vin Doux restaurant, who is suspected of manufacturing his own brand of designer drugs. The investigation leaves no time for romance, plus he can’t risk exposing his cover. His love ’em and leave ’em philosophy is the only thing that keeps his one night stands out of harm’s way. Rayma O’Riley isn’t looking for a quick hook-up. She has her own agenda… Rayma is bored with her position as anchorwoman for News 12. She misses the thrill of investigative reporting. When she receives an anonymous email about a lucrative restaurant manufacturing drugs, she decides to investigate the story in her free time. She quickly finds a source for information in the form of the handsome and flirty chef. She agrees to a date, thinking she can pry insider information out of Camden. If Camden can’t convince Rayma to drop this investigation, Darrell will have both their heads… Camden can’t blow his cover, but if Rayma doesn’t stop snooping around, he knows it will lead to trouble. He doesn’t want her getting hurt before he can take Darrell down. He tries to scare some sense into her, but Rayma releases an article about the restaurant’s below-the-law side business anyway. Darrell Weberley isn’t the kind of man to let something like that go without punishment, and all it’s going to take is… one wrong move.
Angela Smith is a Texas native who, years ago, was dubbed most likely to write a novel during her senior year in high school. She always had her nose stuck in a book, even hiding them behind her textbooks during school study time. Her dream began at a young age when her sister started reciting 'Brer Rabbit' after their mom read it to them so often. She told her mom she'd write a story one day and never gave up on that dream even though her mom was never able to see it come to fruition. By day, she works as a certified paralegal and office manager at her local District Attorney's office and spends her free time with her husband, their pets, and their many hobbies. Although life in general keeps her very busy, her passion for writing and getting the stories out of her head tends to make her restless if she isn't following what some people call her destiny.
I haven't really been a romantic suspense fan, but Angela Smith is making me realize I'm missing out on some great stories. I'm so happy I gave One Wrong Move a shot.
The opening scene sucks you in! And from then on you're wondering if Rayma's going to stay safe. If Camden's going to stay safe. Ack! Don't let those two get hurt -- they need their happy ever after. :D
Most authors sprinkle in setting around the action. Ms. Smith paints it in, with lots of color and artistic detail.
My heart was in my throat toward the end. The set up did not look good. Surely they weren't going to make it out of this alive. Oh, my nerves! Kudos for getting my whole body involved in the story - not just my brain. :D
I'm heading off to look for her backlist titles now. I've got some catching up to do.
I usually enjoy romantic suspense more than I did this book, though I am not exactly sure why. Maybe it was in part because of the addition of Lacey's role, or maybe because the characters were not fleshed out all that well, not sure. I also struggled to connect to anyone in this book, probably because everyone was so two-dimensional. There are much better books out there in this genre.
The story and actions of the drug smuggler and undercover agents is strong and keeps you reading. However, the love story is kind of stretched and actually doesn't seem to fit. I gave it a four star rating as the rest of the story is written really well ~
Camden and Rayma was a fun story to read. It kept me guessing all the way through. Lacey was a total shock to me. I hope there are more stories to come.
One Wrong Move is a tale of danger, intrigue, designer drugs, undercover cops and, of course, romance. Sexy, hot, steamy romance!
Rayma is independent and strong and is really into her job as an investigative reporter. She loves the danger that goes along with the investigating. She gets the tip of a lifetime about a restaurant that may be selling designer drugs. She meets the source, who turns out to be an undercover Camden and she plans to use him for information. Camden does his best to keep his distance so she stays safe, but there is a pull she has over him.
If you love a romantic suspense with lots of danger and some swoon-worthy romance, then grab a copy of One Wrong Move today!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
One Wrong Move brings together DEA undercover agent Camden Alexander and Rayma O'Riley in an operation to bring down a drug dealer on the Texas Gulf Coast. It is full of suspense, tight situations and a budding romance.
Rayma finds out secrets from her past, helps with the investigation when her confidential informant gives her the information to aid in the ongoing operation to bring down Darrell, that drug manufacture and dealer. Camden works as Darrell's chef at his restaurant and keeps working to get closer to being trusted with Darrell's secrets about how he manufactures the designer drugs and distributes them.
One Wrong Move was the perfect title for this romantic suspense and undercover operation.
A suspenseful, complex, and well-written tale of an undercover DEA agent and an investigative reporter who seek to expose the truth about the drug trade on the Gulf Coast of Texas. I enjoyed the rich characterizations, particularly Rayma, Lacey, Camden, and Darrell. The author did an admirable job in creating major conflict between good and evil, while giving humanity and flaws to both heroes and villains. Well done. This is not a cookie-cutter romance, and I am grateful for that. Fast-paced and interesting, from the first harrowing scene in a Texas tidal swamp to the happy ever after ending. I highly recommend this novel.
