It was a Nation exploding into civil war. In 1992, the collapse of the former Yugoslavia triggered an international armed conflict that would last more than 3 years and eventually see nearly 100,000 people killed. Canadians were thrown into what was declared a peacekeeping mission, but it wasn't. They were going well beyond the rules of engagement that were provided by the UN. Told by Scott Casey, Former Canadian Peacekeeper.

Excellent personal story about the experiences of war and the unfortunate after-effects and fallout. The mission is not always as it seems and these men risked a lot more than people know. Well written and great work going forward with Military Minds.

Highly recommend this book. I read this after my husband (retired military) read it and raved about it. We really have no idea about the situations our Forces are sent in to with split seconds to make life and death decisions that no civilian can ever fathom. Outsiders easily have an opinion how missions should be handled without having any insight or combat experience. I know Scott wrote this book also to help veterans. If you come across a veteran this would be a great gift.

I really enjoyed this perspective on Canada's UN mission in the former Yugoslavia and I thank Cpl Casey (ret.) for sharing his story. However, the editing that went into this book was either atrocious or completely non-existent making it incredibly hard to read at times.

An excellent look at the Balkans civil war. Thanks to the author for opening up and sharing his experiences, and for a look at the Canadian military. Your last three sentences in chapter 26 moved me.

Excellent and highly personal account of a nation embroiled in civil war. Sometimes a tough read due to the subject matter but overall a riveting journey of one dedicated Canadian soldier.
