(Ages 3 & up) In this heartwarming adoption story, the Seeks set out to start a family but soon discover it's not going to be easy. So they embark on a journey that takes them through desert, mountains, and jungle only to find that they don't have to travel so far and wide to find a child to love after all.
The Not In Here Story is an absolutely heart-warming and happy story about adoption. In the book, Mr. & Mrs Seek, (portrayed as adorable monsters) enjoy their lives but one day an empty feeling consumes them. They excitedly decide to try and grow a baby in Mrs. Seeks tummy but after checking day after day, week after week and getting question after question from outsiders; with still no growing tummy a feeling of defeat comes over them. The Seeks decide to go on vacation in hopes that some relaxation will help a baby to grow, after no luck and a hard look at the souvenirs, Mrs. Seek has a bright idea. Perhaps the baby doesn't have to come from her, perhaps the baby is in someone else's tummy. I would recommend this book for ages 4 and up. This book would be a nice segue into explaining the idea of adoption whether it is happening in the child's immediate family or if you simply want to educate your child on different types of families. The illustrations were bubbly and fun, a perfect match for the text. The language in the text itself was simple, genuine and would be easy for a child being read to, to understand. An interesting yet funny view of adoption, explained to children of ages 3+. It is an easy-going journey, not without pain and tears, that will finally lead to the fulfillment of the dream of having a little baby, easier than expected. The illustrations are funny, but suggestive enough to complete the given text. Disclaimer: Book offered by the publisher in exchange for an honest review
