This story is so simple and yet so beautiful and warm and such a great children’s story. The artwork is original in that it’s mostly a bunch of similar colored crayons (hues) mixing together in different areas on the page and then a fine tip sharpie creating lines to define different animals and objects. It’s about a young girl with an imaginary friend named “Lion” who goes everywhere with her and is her comfort, her rock, her warmth. The bright warm hue of the lion helps emulate this warmth to the readers and creates a feeling of safeness. I can’t help thinking that if I was a young child I would love this book because I would try to use my imagination to create a lion friend as well so that I could do all the fun things Catherine does in the story. The entire book is told from a child’s view and the pictures help the reader see it all from the view of a child. As well, I like how the story is easy to relate to for children and it’s very believable but still has a sense of imagination to it.
