Rebekah A. Morris
128 books279 followersRebekah A. Morris has lived her entire life (as of now) in Missouri. Being home educated during her school years was great, except for writing. That was the worst subject (along with math) that she had to do. It wasn't until after she graduated that she discovered the joys and wonder of writing. Now she can't write enough. After spending six years in research and writing, she completed her first book, "Home Fires of the Great War," a 500+ page, historical fiction about home life in the United States and Canada during the First World War. Since then, she has been an avid writer and always has more than one story going on at once because only one story at a time got tiring and dull.

Fitting In, the third work I have read by Miss Morris, was quite endearing. Although not a favorite of mine, it was an enjoyable short-story with a great lesson. The writing reminds me somewhat of Janette Oke's – with a style of lovely and unique simplicity.
Elizabeth was a kind young woman and a relatable character. Her struggles with not fitting in and feeling like an outcast were realistic. I was cheering for her so much at the end!
Her husband, Paul, was super sweet. I loved how he called Elizabeth "Libby" and talked to his horse, Sir Drake. He was very supportive of his young wife. :)
The Boice family were all so dear and sweet!! I loved their return to the community – thanks to Paul, Elizabeth, and God the Father. :)
The one thing that confused me, though, was how Paul and Elizabeth were sometimes referred to as Mr. and Mrs. Leffler. Yes, that's their last name, but it confused me to have them called by first name one sentence and spoken of formally the next.
That aside, it was a light, quick, and enjoyable read. :) I would certainly recommend it to someone who enjoys short-stories of people standing up for what's right!

A short, sweet story. It took me only a few minutes to read this (maybe a half hour), and it was one of those satisfactory reads. Of course, as with any short story, finding out more about the characters or developing the story more would just bring more satisfaction, but as a whole the story was complete.
When Elizabeth is shunned by the town, she turns to one family who would accept her, which then leads her to face-off the town in a way she didn't expect.

I really enjoyed this short-story by Rebekah Morris! While it's not my favorite of her works, it was still a fun, quick read! The characters were amazing, as always, and I loved the husband/wife relationship. It was sweet, but not overly romantic, which was such a refreshing change!
The message about standing up for what you believe in was also wonderfully done--something we all need to do! :)

Elizabeth Leffler feels like an alien in the small town that she has recently become an inhabitant of. The neighbours are inhospitable and make her feel like she will never fit in. After vain attempts to make friends, she turns her efforts toward others also shunned from the town. Her helpfulness and kindness are treated with horror and disrespect. But when it goes too far, Elizabeth decides it’s time to act and confront her neighbours.
Really enjoyed this sweet little story! The plot was well laid out and moved at a quick pace, not too fast to make it feel rushed, but not too slow to make you bored. It kept ya on your toes, always wondering what Elizabeth was going to do next ;) The relationship between Paul and Elizabeth was very sweet. Even though there wasn’t much emphasis on it, you could really tell they loved each other very much :) Elizabeth’s problems of not fitting in I found very similar to problems of my own :-) But it was inspiring to see how she focused on thinking about others instead of going into a dump and sulking about herself. Her actions were very Christ-like and quite beneficial to herself. I mean, think about it, by helping others she unconsciously made her own life happier too! :)
Would definitely recommend this book to anyone of every age!

I really enjoyed Fitting In, but there were a few things that made me give it less than five stars. I’ll just get them out of the way so we can move onto the positive.:)
First, I didn’t get as good a feeling for the setting as I’d like to. I wasn’t sure where or when we were! Second, I felt that at times it was rushed and could have, perhaps, been made into a little longer story. I would have liked a little more background for Elizabeth and her husband – like how they met, for instance. Sometimes the writing seemed to lapse into ‘show not tell.’
Now, for something positive after all that negativity! The characters were amazing. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book in which the characters just jump out of the pages. I don’t know why, but people tend to develop without enlivening their characters! I especially loved Elizabeth! She reminded me of one of my own characters – except maybe a little more excitable – which of course made me love her even more.
The plot was interesting. I really liked it a lot. I especially enjoyed the scene where Elizabeth yells at the town. So amusing!
I think one of the reasons I liked this little short story was because Ms. Morris’s writing style somewhat resembles my own. At least, we have the same strengths – characters – and weaknesses – show not tell, for instance. She’s way better at plots that me, though. All my plots die savage deaths.
Overall, definitely worth the read. You can pre-order it now on Amazon for just $0.99!

FTC DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy of this book. A positive review was not required. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
I loved this sweet short story about the power of one person standing up for what is right! Elizabeth's enthusiasm and passion were spreading to me even as I read, and it was a great reminder to be a friend. I especially enjoyed and Isaac's attitude as man of the family. ;)
Best quote: Rising and picking up her basket, Elizabeth asked one more question. “Would Jacob go if you went?” “Sure,” Isaac replied with a shrug. “I’d make him.”
Altogether, I found this to be an enjoyable, light read! (Oh, and I love how Elizabeth stayed a little bit city girl.) ;)

This was not one of my favorites of Morris's books. The characters felt a bit blander, and the story felt a bit stilted. But I did like the characters. =)

This was such a sweet short story! I loved the fact that Elizabeth's focus ended up being less about fitting in to her new community and more about doing what was right no matter what the others around her were doing. And I liked the way everything worked out--not perfect, but believable. :)

"Fitting In" is a nice, fun short story, and it is well written. I haven't read many books by Rebekah Morris, but I really want to read more of her books!

4 stars & 4/10 hearts. I really enjoyed this short story. It has an amazing message which, unfortunately, many Christians refuse to hear. The characters were all vivid and interesting; the setting was pretty neat; and the humour was quite enjoyable.
A Favourite Quote: “‘Shall we pray about it first?’” …
“‘Oh yes. I do get so busy worrying and fretting that I don’t think to take my troubles to the Lord until I realize I can’t change anything.’”
A Favourite Beautiful Quote: “There had been a few frosts and the leaves were changing colors, though most were still clinging to the branches where they rustled of summer’s past glories and whispered of winter’s coming snows.”
A Favourite Humorous Quote: “‘…but no one’ll have me. I ain’t got the right clothes.’
“Mr. Leffler stared up at the trees. ‘I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cow that minded what the person milking it was wearing.’
“Isaac grinned. ‘I guess not, but—‘
“‘You see,’ Mr. Leffler went on, ‘my wife doesn’t like milking. Just between us, she’s rather afraid of the cow[.]’”

What a spunky woman with a huge and tender heart! She wants to fit in, but more than that, she wants to help other people. What an example of living selflessly and taking action to help - action backed by prayer.

Whole Town of Bullies
So often we do not get the whole picture before making decisions. Rebekah has portrayed the gumption it takes to stop feeling sorry for self and start looking for ways to help others
