Double Jordan:: My Journey Towards Discovering My Paternal Ancestors
When Thomas Darron Jordan’s paternal aunt died in 2002, another generation of his family was gone. Thomas realized that he knew very little about his family roots. A visit with a cousin in Dunbar, West Virginia in 2008 forever altered his purpose in life and he became a genealogist. Thomas invites you to join him on his journey to uncover his paternal ancestors. His search led him to Roberta, Crawford County, Georgia, the place where it all began. He has documented all eight of his paternal great-great grandparents and his research led to the creation of a bi-annual reunion of the descendants of his great-great grandfather Jessie Jordan, Sr. (1817-1915). Utilizing his newfound sleuthing skills, he discovered his connection to one of the most pivotal civil rights events in history.

It took me an unbelievably long time to finish this book. Not because it was boring or I was disinterested, I think I just wanted to hold on a little bit longer to my Cousin Darron.
The author passed shortly before I began this book & it crushed me. I didn’t see my Cousin Darron much, but when I did, he was so full of life and always so adamant about family getting together. I suppose I was just too young to fully grasp that concept… Now that I’m older, I whole heartedly hold onto that.
This book was an amazing journey of not just genealogy, but a quest of finding new family members which I thoroughly enjoyed! Though Darron is my cousin by marriage, we share the same last name and so I thought I’d be able to find some of “my” Jordan’s amongst his Jordan’s. I didn’t, but that’s okay. I still learned so much lol.
I’ve always wanted to make my own family tree. I have on ancestry, but I stopped it because I felt like I had hit a dead end. This book showed me that I did not hit a dead end, but that I only need to dig deeper.
Darron says time and time again throughout the book to speak to older family members and learn about their parents, siblings or what have you. And you know what? It makes me cherish the ones I have left. I need to call more. Talk more. Get together with my older family members more.
In the book, Darron even discusses visiting numerous family reunions. I went to one of the first family reunions that my family had had in a long time & although I missed seeing Darron, oh, it was so amazing to see my family members that i hadn’t even known about! One of our family members, Uncle Bobby (this would be on his wife’s, Jackie’s, side (my blood cousin) who he speaks so lovingly about throughout the book), told me I looked like a distant family member that he knew. It blew my mind! But looking back on that moment and after having reading this book, I only want to visit more family reunions, talk to my older family members more, and jot down whatever memories they still have.
I hate that I missed the opportunity to not only discuss this wonderful book, but Cousin Darron’s wonderful findings and gain a bit of his wisdom when it comes to ancestry. By the grace of God, he wrote this book.
A sermon is included at the end of the book, which resonated in me just as he knew it would to any reader.
My 5 star is not biased at all. This book was truly wonderful. I know Cousin Darron is having a BLAST in heaven
