This fascinating book is full of cartoons and illustrations mostly from 1890s - 1910s. Even 70 years after this collection's publication it fascinating to see what people thought the future would be like and compare it with what actually happened. One cartoon speculates what would happen if the (new-fangled) telephone and television were combined: an attractive young lady accidentally gets connected to a gentleman taking a bath. The operator apologizes for the mistaken connection but the young lady purrs "That's quite all right." Some were political: one drawing showed a map of the US labeled "New Prussia" (the west coast states being named "Japonica') with the caption: "what happens if the US does not finish the job" (of pacifying Germany after WW I). Weird racist and anti-immigrant cartoons are timely again this year.
