Cael will never take a mate. After accidentally hurting the only woman he’s ever loved, he believes it unsafe for him to ever touch a woman again.
Aiyanna doesn’t care. For years, she’s wanted him, only to be rejected at every turn. It stings every time he turns her away, but letting him go would only hurt worse.
When vampires come to New Orleans for the first time in decades, problems between Cael and Aiyanna seem small in comparison to the danger now facing the thousands of humans celebrating Mardi Gras. Only together do they have a chance to defeat the new creatures threatening the entire city, including Cael’s werewolf pack.
Healed brings the Crescent City Creatures together again in an installment filled with danger, revelations, and love.
It’s finally Cael and Aiyanna’s turn and this book doesn’t disappoint.
Due to his belief that he killed a woman during intimacy, Cael refuses to have a relationship with Aiyanna even though he knows she’s his mate, but that doesn’t stop him from behaving as an overbearing protective mate. Things come to a head when Aiyanna gives him an ultimatum and when he fails miserably, she goes to stay with Emmanuel so she can lick her wounds. Whilst there, she learns that a coven of vampires are in the city for Mardi Gras and have requested that they be allowed to settle. Agreement is given on the condition that Aiyanna works with them and heals the human that they feed from and that little arrangement does not go down well with Cael at all. When they first go to the vampires’ house, they discover that there are 3 humans who the vampires feed from and 5 vampires. When Aiyanna realises that they willingly feed the vampires and also live quite happily with them, she’s more than willing to help out in the strange arrangement After making up, Aiyanna persuades Cael to go to one of the parades with her some of the others and whilst there, they find themselves in a fight for their lives against a group of rogue vampires who have killed dozens of humans indiscriminately. It is during that fight that Aiyanna is seriously injured and they struggle to find someone who can help her. Healers are rare and even when they find one, they are not so good at healing each other. When she’s close to death, a healer starts healing her as best as she can. In the meantime, Cael meets with the elders who unbind his powers now that he’s agreed to let them, which will come in handy for their fight with the 2nd group of vampires.
We get to the bottom of who was really responsible for killing Ava, the woman from Cael’s past and the pack, Cael and Aiyanna get their HEA, a new healer moves to New Orleans and Vale and Katarina travel to a specialist hospital to try and find out exactly what creature Katarina is. As with the other books in the series, nothing goes smoothly and the twists continue right up until the end of the book. I rarely give 5 stars but the books in this series absolutely deserve them.
Centuries/millennia of morphing abilities, unjust imprisonment, unusual mates creating even more and unusual abilities to save a race and human beings a creative and novel twist. There are at least two, maybe three more stories to go before an ending fits. Good read . Waiting. NB. New Orleans perfect site. ZMMR
