The Translation Drive is the wonder of the ages. The discovery opened up the universe to exploration.

The drive has a down side, though. With the push of a button you could be anywhere in the universe. But you could also be eternally lost – Spaced.

This is the fate that befalls Doctor Carmichael Simons. After returning to Aquaria having concluded a successful mineral survey, he finds himself named as a terrorist and bomber. With the police trying to kill him and the navy closing in, he does the unthinkable. He jumps wild, in effect spacing himself. Now he can never get home and clear his name – but that won't stop him trying.

Back on Aquaria Detective Annalisse Samara, given the task of investigating the bombing and finding out why a respected scientist would blow up a hydroponics reserve, begins work. The problem is that what she uncovers may well turn the Commonwealth into a warzone and get her killed.

In the end they could both be spaced

“A modern day detective story set in space with plenty twists and turns and some great characters.”.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 just because the author writes a darn good story. Once again the book unexpectedly feels like it could be 2 or even 3 books if desired. I love it! The characters developed well, the action kept building conflict after another with plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting. The only complaint I had was with the ships AI. I enjoy a bit of snark as well as the next reader, but the snark turned into continual abuse to the poor MC. I wanted to flush the AI from the system for the dude. The interaction between them quickly paled and then became hard to read. Except for that, this book was exceptional and one that I would recommend.

Lots of plot twists made interesting throughout

Really some carry over from today - government doing what it wants or I should say a part of government against another. The people / citizens suffering the most! As well as pure sci-fi storyline with the space travel.
I especially liked the mute storyline and then the militarization of the program and it being a failure- disastrously. Granted Star Trek did the idea years ago of mute / genetic enhanced (Khan) and probably a golden age sci-fi writer first wrote it. Some nice twists to that storyline made it original!
All around a really good reading experience well worth time and cost to read.
I recommend reading this book. Really most books by the author have been good but I would say this elevated to a great read. It left me several time during breaks in reading thinking about the storyline twist and current - real life history. Always powerful when a books gets you thinking during and after reading.
For the complaining or nitpicking, yes there were 3 or 4 typos I recall but in NO way took away from the story. Just thought I would add for those who like to find faults no matter the enjoyment of a story / book / effort!
