My Review: This was a totally new experience for me. This book is such a mix of genres, that I really had to put some thought into how to classify it to shelve it. It's urban fantasy, romance, and sci-fi all rolled into one. It's like a TV show, too. Most books that I've read lately seem to be either first person where you get all the thoughts of that one person and get to know them rather intimately. Or, the author chooses third person omniscient and moves around letting you hear each character's thoughts in turn so that you really get close to the characters. This author chose third person and there were thoughts. However, the thoughts really give us no insight in that way. They function in a more narrative way. We do get the thoughts that Madeline pulls from some people. That's her super power.
This was also my first experience with the multiverse in this way, a more contemporary take on it than what I have experienced before. Previously, it was more an invasive sort of thing. In this book, they're just on a visit to Earth for some information. Just like I might pop down to Boston for a show. They just popped down to Earth to visit Arik because that's where he happens to be at the time. This is just one of the ways that the author seems to bring a sense of lightheartedness to the book. Very upbeat. Even when the world, or universe if falling apart.
There is no sex in the book, but there is some romance. First there is Ciaran and his wife, Madeline. He absolutely adores her and would go the ends of the universe to make her happy and ensure she was safe. He gets a little bit off when she's in danger. They're cute if you like the constantly adoring type.
And then there is Arik and Diana. They sort of find each other on the fly. Arik is an Oxford professor who seems to have discovered some of the secrets of the universe. Diana is a private investigator of unusually intriguing events, a chemist and a hacker. Arik and Ciaran have some history that is resolved in this book. Since this series is connected to the other series that the author has written by common characters, this will be good news to those of you who have read her other work.
I think I'm going to finish this series, at least to see just how this all works out. Not that this isn't a standalone. But I think it'll be even more fun in the perspective of its series. And it was fun. Then I may try some of the other series Ms. Leo has on offer. I recommend this book and its series to all those of you who enjoy the urban-sci-fi-romance genre. Ones with lots of action, a fast pace, and a smirk.
The other two books in this series are Wolfsbane #2 and Maikoa #3, and are already available from booksellers.
Kindle Unlimited IF you look it up just right, so try Dark Solar 1 - Oleander, and the other 3 are also ku but not the entire trilogy as far as can tell. Not really a serialized cliffhanger type although there are some questions left unanswered in the first book.
Multiverse versus good, bad, a detective, some sci-fi, a bit of ick romance {that's just me probably}, maybe just a touch of paranormal, but definitely not a one genre type story. Impossible to adequately describe, other than just read it already. The blurb more than tells you enough to figure out whether it would be suited to your reading preferences. Do like space opera in general myself.
A multi universe PI, mystery, murder and more! A solution that can cause severe harm! And a new collaboration is formed! Really well done characters and a unique story line!
An audio book that was certainly entraining. Overall the story was well written. A good verse evil type of novel that added some investigation into the mix with a mixture of multiple worlds(including present day Earth).
This was my first book by D.N. Leo and I think I just might be hooked. I couldn't put it down once i got started. Dinah loses someone close to her and travels far and wide to find what she can to keep her word. Arik seems to have some clues but doesn't really seem to be willing to help out. Then there are Ciaran and his wife Madeline, these two are pretty awesome as well. I am going to have to check out some of the others books by D.N. Leo soon and can't wait to read the rest of this series as well.
I love DN Leo's Multiverse books. The variety of stories can keep you riveted for hours. This book can be read as a standalone. Though I would encourage you to read them all, as they are worth it. Plus, some of the characters appear in multiple books and storylines. There is violence.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. The author did a great job of giving new readers an overview of what this world is about. I love the concept of the Multiverse and the images and characters that are a part of it.
In this book, Dinah who is a PI, chemist, hacker, and time jumper sets off to figure out why her friend Kate was killed. Her trip to Earth and introduction to Arick is hilarious. We also find out how Ciaran and Arick met. I love the mixing of old and new characters. Whether you are a new reader to Multiverse, or have read the previous books, you'll like this one.
I find I "read" audiobooks somewhat faster than ebooks. Not my actual reading time--that is much faster than the spoken word--but because I can keep listening while doing all sorts of things which occupy my hands and eyes but leave my brain and ears available. Of course, with a boring story your mind can wander, but that has not been an issue with any of D.N. Leo's books of which I have now read three from various series within her multiverse. This one is somewhat less standalone than the first two I read and I was glad already to have been introduced to a number of the characters as this plot is more complex and far reaching and more ends are left dangling for you to follow. Action is swift and events rapid-fire and there is more violence. I wouldn't be surprised to see a movie series springing from this genre-spanning story line.
This book ‘mentions’ everything. Multiverse, jumpers, psychic mind readers, exchange of energy by ‘tribal people’ travelling time and space, people with wings (hybrid, part human only)… It seems the writer has read a few Sci Fi books.
You know how the book is going to turn out when right in the beginning Dinah, one of the main characters who’s on a planet in another universe, after learning of her best friend’s death and before travelling through universes, goes home to pack her suitcase, and ‘zips it shut’! 😳🤣
Most of the 5 stars comments here “received a free copy to give ‘honest opinion’”. I regret the time I wasted. Only redeeming factor was the End, when it’s revealed it was all a game!
I was looking for White Oleander, when stumbled onto the book.
I’m not familiar with the author. If the author is a class 7 student, all the best to him. Otherwise…!

Oleander is the first book that I read in the Dark Solar Trilogy. It is a wonderfully suspenseful trip thru the Multiverse and Earth. The storyline is engaging with a compelling mystery that brings the Multiverse into our world. The characters draw you into the story and keep you engaged. Dinah is a strong female protagonist who is a private investigator trying to solve mass murders. Arik is a mythology professor at Oxford who holds the key to solving the crimes, but what he knows puts him in danger. These two are drawn to one another and their romance, as well as the danger, blossoms. What follows is intrigue, suspense, and lots of magic and other supernatural action, and paranormal activity. With all of these elements, Oleander is definitely one of my faves.
If you enjoy multiverse story lines then these are the books for you. Ms. Leo is capable of spinning a story that keeps you engrossed until the end and you still want more.
Dark Solar will take you back to when Ciaran met Arik many years ago. You will find out what caused the rift and tore a friendship asunder. In this book you will be introduced to several new characters Dianah and Cooper who hail from Ilisos. A special group of people are being murdered and one of them happens to be Dinah friend Kate.
Arete also was introduced and he has an agenda that none suspected.

I'm so excited a new branch off series is introduced and it is true form. A great story with crazy characters and of curs the bad guys. We are back with Ciaran and Madeline but we also have a couple of newbies in Cooper and Dinah, Arick and his folks (I think we will hear more on all of these people). Well the duo are out to save the universe again and it is an exciting story with lots of action people are dying and it has to be stopped.
This is an interesting read with lots of action and a little romance too. For those who are familiar with the author's other books, you get to meet some of your favorites again and learn more about them. There are new characters too added to the story. I enjoyed it and felt it offered an interesting storyline and characters that I looked forward to learning more about.
This book has everything I could ask for in a book! Exciting characters that leap off the pages, suspense, mystery, ever varying antagonists. Tremendously well formed multiverse! I found the relationships between the multiverse quite intriguing. Book 2,Wolfsbane, has already been loaded into my kindle. There are a lot of complex tangents in this storyline, but all are quite creative . I am very happy to have read this!
Dinah is an amazing investigator but it's not what it seems this time, not so easy. Professor Arik, has been there, so he understands. Then they fall in love, of course and complications arise. How are they going to handle this. Appreciate receiving this book to preview, loved it from the first word. Don't miss reading
Dark Solar 1 - Oleander by D.N. Leo is another book in the multiverse. It is based more on a mystery of who and why someone is killing off the Jumpers. I found it very interesting and intriguing. I received this book for a honest review.
This series of episodes in the multiverse saga can be read in a long afternoon and is not for little ones. I read an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
