Château Debauchery #4

Submitting to the Marquess

Rate this book
A night at the Château Debauchery might provide this Regency miss more wicked pleasure than she can handle...

Mildred Abbott is a proper Regency miss, but she cannot deny the dark desires that torment her body in the quiet of night. Engaged to an uninspiring sycophant, she asks the influential nephew of her patroness in debauchery to interfere and break her engagement. When her appeals to him fail, she decides to take a singular opportunity—a visit to the Château Debauchery—to indulge her most wanton cravings before she submits herself to a life of wedded dullness.

The Marquess of Alastair concerns himself with no one, but to appease his aunt on her birthday, he agrees to select one person whose interests he will look after. It was not his intention to choose the plain and simple Miss Abbott, but when she unexpectedly shows up at the Château Debauchery, his hand is forced. Knowing his aunt to be partial to the miss, he grudgingly decides to act the part of a gentleman and preserve Miss Abbott's honor by removing her from the Château.

But Mildred refuses to go until she has had her night of wicked debauchery.

READER This novella is primarily a work of erotic fiction with romantic elements. It contains light bondage, BDSM elements and themes of submission/dominance.

The BDSM was, like so often, not consensual, lacking important factors for a valid consent. I doubt it was very realistic for that era, either, and in general it and the sex didn't do anything for me.

I liked the characters however, even Alastair, though I could have done with less of the "typical rake" trope. I'd read a fully evolved romance with these people, but as it is, this story was barely okay, because far too short and far too BDSM-centric.

Again! No HEA on a single book should come with a warning! Come on, now. This is not what I signed up for.

(My last twenty four hours of reading could be summed up as AUTHORS TRYING TO MESS WITH READER EXPECTATIONS AND IT BACKFIRES TERRIBLY. I do this too, authors, but like...this wasn't even a HFN.)

This book was free, but it doesn't have an HEA. The HEA is in another book if you think "Submitting for Christmas" is worth paying for...

This sample is spicy, but I'm not interested in continuing to read a book set for Christmas when it's almost June...

3 Let's be wanton Stars

Buddy read with the Romance/Erotica Politically Unsafe group.

Tons of tropes, a language use that could easily scare many away and a lot of scenes that made me wonder how realistic or possible certain practices even were, but I got sucked in very easily.

I liked Mildred and Andre together and apart, even with all the cliches. I was super annoyed by how unattractive she saw herself and was described, she was perfectly fine for me, but I was very proud of her for fully embracing her desires and her curiousity. She was perhaps cockhungry, not a flaw per se, and very determined to explore what she was so certain she wanted. Very well done. I should follow your example, Millie. I liked the female ally she found in Katherine, it is so important to have at least one person in one's life reinforcing the rightfulness and normalcy of sexual appetites and exploration in pivotal moments. Andre was sexy even in his typical rakeness, he cared in the end and he felt. I loved when they showed him how hypocritical he was being.

As I said, I am not too sure about the accuracy of certain scenes BDSM-wise, but I personally had quite a few favourite things showing up, so even if nothing was special in the sex department, I enjoyed my bits, especially because I believed how much they were enjoying it, or feeling the pain. I didn't appreciate the incomplete ending, my OCD tendencies want to know how this will unfold!

Hmm

Just ok. As far as historical fiction is wasn't the best. The writer tried to use old English but mixed it with current wording.
H is alright, supposed to be handsome and rakish. The h is described as not attractive with few endearing qualities.
As far as the interaction between the two at the "chateau" the h came across as desperate and begging for it instead of enticing the H. It did not interest me enough to want to read the next one.

BR with Romance/Erotica Politically Unsafe GR group. This book ended with an unfinished story line. There are 2 more installments that follow this couple. This book was free on Amazon but the other two books are listed for $4.99 and $0.99. I don't like getting baited.

The writing was too heavy with historical period vocabulary and wording. I prefer contemporary writing with period conversations. The BDSM and sex were mediocre. Kudos for a strong independent minded heroine who owned her sexuality. The hero did have a heart even though he was a self absorbed playboy. It was fun to watch how the family matriarch played match maker for these two.

So I really enjoyed this wicked night of debauchery between Millie and her Ward Andre in Chateau Debauchery. Historical eroticas are one genre not explored much, but every wicked tale catches my interest.
This didn't end in a HEA, so I can't wait to read more.
Sinfully good.

I think this worked fairly well, but the book feels scant to me. Obviously it’s short because it’s part of a longer story that you have to buy separately. There is somewhat of a conclusion but of course it makes you want to read further. Personally I like a long story in novel-length that has the flow that ends in a conclusion. And since this is billed as a romance, and because romances are often back-and-forth between the characters, and take a while to get to the desired conclusion which is that they get together and find love, that works for me. But having to read part of a book and then buy the other parts to see if that will actually end up that way although one presumes it will, that doesn’t work for me. Even though I found the two characters interesting, I particularly found the female protagonist full of insecurities and she seems especially young to me. I suppose some readers will relate to that, I couldn’t. The male is more or less the stereotypical rake, this one with a heart in there somewhere. I’m glad I read it. The erotic part doesn’t bother me, I think it’s part of erotic play for many people and it certainly feeds into the female protagonist’s desires, although with so much self-loathing, I kept hoping she would get some of the therapy available of the day. I’m annoyed by how short it is and how I’ll never get to the conclusion because to buy the rest of the books in the series would be too expensive. Amazon in Canada does not offer a package of all of the titles.

BDSM, so definitely not for everyone.

Although it's Book 4 in the Chateau Debauchery series, it can be read as a stand-alone.

There's a lot more to the story than just sexual titillation, and I was drawn to the characters of Miss Mildred Abbott and Andre d'Aubigne, the Marquess of Alastair. They're given interesting personalities and an intriguing premise.

Mildred is betrothed to a dull, uninteresting man and wishes she wasn't but needs assistance to break it. Lady Katherine, who is aware that Mildred has some "sinful" propensities and doesn't judge her for them, arranges for her to have one glorious night at the Chateau Debauchery before having to settle down to boring domesticity. Alastair is Lady Katherine's nephew and a relation of Mildred's by marriage. He's also a regular guest at the Chateau and is appalled to see Mildred there. The interplay between the two is really humorous, as he keeps trying to get her to leave while she insists she will stay.

On the top end of the spectrum as far as books of this genre are concerned.

So I read Indecent Wager and really liked it. I decided to read more Em Brown books. I didn’t know this was a part 1 of a series and would end on a sort of cliffhanger. I disliked the MMC so much it made me not want to continue. I personally think it’s gross when a Dom tries to hurt the sub enough to force them to say their safe word. I also don’t like when the sub takes abuse because they feel they have something to prove.

The story is entertaining and I like the main characters but the backstory is completely unbelievable. The writer is good. Which is why it's harder to understand why certain parts are well done and others aren't. I really liked Alistair and Millie quite a bit. They're both fiery individuals. Yet, due to how well the present was written, it was really hard to believe in the flimsy background story for Millie.

An entertaining, light read and another book off of my TBR pile.

Millie knows what she wants, calls Alastair out on his hypocrisy, and for a 99c novella plane read, this was cute. I couldn’t ask for more.

Good Novella Romance

This is a Novella and as such it does not have a HEA. Mildred aka Millie goes to Château Follet aka Château Debauchery because she is into being spanked. Millie is taken there by Lady Katherine who is her friend and Lady Katherine just so happens to be the aunt of The Marquess of Alastair Millie's cousin by marriage. Naturally Millie meets the Marquess there. After some consideration the Marquess uses a crop and then a paddle on Millie and then he has sex with her. Nice story, next part is Submitting for Christmas.

It Was Trying too Hard

I realize this is only a novella, but as my first taste of Em Brown's work, I wasn't overly impressed. It was trying to be a BDSM storyline in the Regenecy era, but it fell short on both accounts. It tried to be in Regency England (& did better than some authors), yet it honestly could have occured in any era. The more erotic scenes seemed lack luster and a little clumsy. And I got ridiculously tired of the reminder that Millie and Alistair were cousins 'by marriage' and the constant negative comments on Millie's appearance. I might try another free book of Brown's to give her one more try; otherwise, there are far better books I could be reading.

I got this as a freebie and while I know I was in the middle of the series, the ending was crap and I didn't care for you. I get that it's a series but at least have a little wrap up to what I just read.

Otherwise, this was a five-star HOT historical romance. Light on the BDSM. The characters I enjoyed very much.

Good story, but ending much too early.

After a rather complicated introduction into the three characters we get a believable insight into the mind of an English Marquess concerning the reputation of his cousin ("not by blood" is repeated several times) whom he finally spanks and fucks. I can't see the element of non-consent other commenters noted. She is the one asking - sometimes begging - for the action.

I was disappointed when the story stopped without an end by ~75% of the book's length, and the rest was filled with a preview of another book.

That's it? Why make it into more than one book? I liked the fact that Millie isn't afraid to let her passion be known, and that she knows exactly what she wants. Should be interesting to find out what happens next

Starring Miss Mildred “Millie” Abbott and Andre “Alastair” d’Aubigne, Marquess of Alastair.

Tropes: Spanking, bdsm, Debauchery Establishment, cousins by marriage, and Cliffhanger.

I usually don’t like it when when a book ends in a cliffhanger or no resolutions between the main characters... but this story has whet my appetite and I immediately bought the next TWO installments (Submitting for Christmas and Submitting for Christmas: The Epilogue) as soon as I finished this one.

Alastair is a very strong alpha hero who is appalled to find his cousin-by-marriage at Chateau Follet... an upscale place where aristocrats can fulfill their bdsm and other hardcore fantasies. What starts out as his need to protect her, soon has him giving into temptation to dominate Millie.... and he’s deliciously surprised when she can take more than he thinks she can handle.

Millie is getting married to a man she does not love and he doesn’t know about her naughty proclivity towards getting spanked and dominated. Her aunt gifts her with one last hurrah at Chateau Follet.... where she runs into Alastair. At first it’s a funny cat and mouse game between these two... until Millie finally convinces Alastair that she’s going through with her plan to get debauched with or without him. So he proceeds to give her the best night of her life.... and I mean WOZA!! I’m usually about the heroes, but Millie is pretty hawt!! And I love that she is confident and knows exactly what she wants... and is not afraid to push her own boundaries. She’s awesome!!

Alastair and Millie are going to singe the pages with their hotness so be prepared... sit in front of a fan or next to a running cold shower. You have been warned!!

Em Brown is a wonderful author and I gobble up her stories when I’m in the mood for a guaranteed amazing kink!! Love her books.

My Star rating: 4 stars
Book was great. Loved the characters. Storyline kept me entertained... but did not make me cry. *and it felt unresolved since I didn’t know this was a cliffhanger.

The Rapture💋

Millie💋👗 is betrothed to a man she doesn't want in this period novel📕 set in England. She is settling for a man she doesn't want because her family demands it and since she isn't the most beautiful woman💋 and her family isn't rich, she feels she has no choice. As soon as she agrees, she realizes Her mistake and wants out of the betrothal agreement.
Her rougish cousin by marriage is Andre Alastair, a Marquess, a rich womanizer and self pledged playboy bachelor🐺🍌🌋👋💪. He had generously put up a 2000 pound dowery for her so she could find a suitable husband.

Millie has dark desires🍌🌋👋💪🙌💋 that in this age are kept secret, especially by women, but she discovers her aunt had them too, in her day. Her aunt wants her to experience those desires🍌🌋👋💋 at least once before she marries some vanilla man.
They travel to an estate where the whole BDSM🍌🌋👋💪🙌 experience can be had anonymously, by both men and women. Millie💋 is fascinated, but stricken when she sees her cousin Andre🐺🍌🌋👋 there at the dinning table among the other "guests".
Andre🐺🍌🌋👋 is equally enthralled when he sees Millie💋 at the other end of the table sitting next to a viscount and entertaining him as they dine.
Andre🐺🍌🌋👋 wants her for himself, regardless of them being cousins by marriage! He just can't believe Millie💋👗 could be interested in such dark activities🍌🌋👋💋💪!
Andre is a spankster👋👋👋, a binder, and a dominator💪 in every way! Millie💋 is in rapture in his arms! Looks like a set-up to me!
YEHAW! Ride em Bareback🍌, Cowgirl!🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

It was a quick read that could have easily been given 4 stars if not for a few issues.

First, this seemed more like a part of a serial story than part of a series. While the beginning gave the impression it could stand alone (or simply be part of an actual series of stories of interconnected characters), the ending felt... stilted. It seemed like I had come to the end of a chapter rather than the end of the book, making me think "ugh, serial" rather than "oooo, I can't wait to find the next book". Parts of serials should be labeled as such and it's a huge pet peeve of mine that they aren't. There's a huge difference between "series" and "serial". Sadly, too many don't understand that.

Second, the writing could use a bit of polishing and editing. The characters are great (minor exception for Millie's continuous self-degradation, which was just a wee bit too heavy-handed for me, even considering the era) but a few times, I had to stop and go back to make sure I hadn't accidentally skipped a page or something. The most prominent example that lingers in my mind was when his pants were being undone. Apparently, between the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next, he was neatly tucked away and his pants put back into place...? It was jarring and I spent way too long trying to figure out why his pants needed to be undone again. Also, the bondage scene could have (maybe even should have) been expanded a bit, though I applaud the inclusion of a safe-word. Too many BDSM stories skip over that completely.

Over all, it had the potential for a great story. Instead, it was just an ok diversion.

A heroine not in love with the hero? A heroine who is not a virgin and is just as naughty as the hero? Perish the thought! Don't get me wrong, this is erotica with the obligatory amount of many 'naughty' scenes, but instead of a scandalized miss in need of rescuing, the heroine is anything but. Milly is overweight, sensible and lusty and despite her fondness for the hero, she would like some adventure at the Chateau of Debauchery (not kidding on the name) before being married off to a boring snob.

Unfortunately, her cousin (by marriage!), typically aloof and rakish (as heroes often tend to be in Regency romances) discovers that he need to apply the long abandoned chivalry and finding out that he really doesn't. The book doesn't take itself seriously, neither does the heroine and in the end, the book does extend into a sequel, but avoids the insta-love and marriage so typical to 'steamy romances". Very much not my usual fair, but this was a freebie and a diversion for a couple of hours.

Hot stuff coming thru.

When faced with an engagement she does not want, but can not get out of, Millie takes her pleasure into her own hands so to speak. She asked her cousin who provided the money for her dowry in the first place to second it. She knows her finance will back out of the engagement of the money is no longer there. However, her benefactor says no. She faced a life married to a man who doesn't love her and fumbles when he kissed her hand. Now for a common not to bright and sexually repressed miss that might be ok. But our girl is quite bright and is sexually inquisitive this just won't do. Her parents are bringing pressure to bare and she is feeling guilt. She goes on a trip to bath with her aunt, but aunt has a side trip planed for her. Will she be able to have a night of sexual fulfillment to last her a lifetime of full married life, or will circumstances thwart her? Read this extremely sensual book to find out.

When I stared this book I was not aware it was part of a series and would end with a cliff hanger. So that was disappointing. The story over all was OK. Andre d'Aubigne, the Marquess of Alastair is stunned to find is recently betrothed cousin by marriage Millie Abbott at the Chateau Debauchery, a place where men and women act out their deepest desires. Millie is determined to have one night of every sensual pleasure she can have, because she knows once she marries dull George Haversham, she will never be fulfilled. Andre couldn't believe she had some "experience", that she wanted more, and that he was attracted to her as well. Overall good read, but I prefer things to have an ending and not a question mark.

Our heroine wants some excitement in her life, which she does not expect from her upcoming marriage. Our hero is charged with preventing her from indulging, but then some things were just meant to be.

This is an erotic romance with a historical setting. The story is well written, easy to read and oh so steamy. The characters are well done and certainly play their parts to perfection. I love the give and take of the relationship as it develops throughout the story. The result is fun to read and very entertaining. Definitely a good introduction to this author, or a pleasurable indulgence for those already in the know.

Highly recommended.

This was OK but nothing special. It is clearly one of a series and although that doesn't detract from this particular tale it does feel a bit unfinished. The story revolves around Millie, and her cousin by marriage the Marquess of the title.
There is some rather unerotic sex and a strange mix of modern idiom and attempts at historical accuracy in both language and style which doesn't quite gel.
I felt there was a total lack of chemistry between them, and no emotional depth to the story.
Having said that if you don't mind historical inaccuracy and read this more for its erotica it might well be more you than me. As I say not awful but not good.

I clearly did not read the BDSM/erotica warning before reading this and was completely thrown off!! I thought I was just going to read a bridgerton romance novel but nope lol, BUT when I got to the point of no return and realized I was already at 65% because of how short it was, I decided to do a quick read through to see how it ended.

Some spoilers: Why did the FMC and MMC have to be cousins?! They weren't related by blood but they kept referring to themselves as cousins which creeped me out. I really didn't like that Alistair kept saying she wasn't as beautiful as his maids and talked down her body and overall looks making her seem like the most average person he's ever been aroused by.
