I received a courtesy copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Blindsided, by Kylie Walker is a beautifully written story that grabs you from the first page and has you turning the pages to see how the story unfolds. There is, angst, spousal/child abuse, drug use, alcohol, action, suspense, romance, heartbreak, passion, instant attraction, overwhelming emotions, and love. I loved being caught up in the characters Ms. Walker created. Her characters aren't just characters, the are people; people who have real feelings, real struggles, and real strengths.
Fast and definitely furious - it ripped my heart out but left me with a really content feeling in the end.
The only thing Samantha has of her biological father's, is a 1966 Mustang which she uses to escape reality…
Sam grew up with her drug and alcohol dependent mother and her abusive alcoholic stepfather. She grew up in an environment so toxic that she became hard on the outside, put up walls, didn’t trust anyone and didn’t believe that happiness existed apart from when she was behind her 66 Mustang.
Following the death of her mother, Sam is left with picking up the pieces. She has to deal with the fact that her mother’s suicide may actually be a murder, she has to fight to keep her younger brother out of the foster care system and she also discovers that her biological father had tried to make contact with her numerous times, but her mother had kept them apart. Desperate and overwhelmed she reaches out to him for help…
Her father, Lucas, is a widower and lives in California. He owns a very successful auto business and has a stepson, Conrad. Lucas takes Sam and Aaron in; it’s not long before Conrad and Sam begin to have feelings for each other. Conrad however, has his own demons and their relationship isn’t an easy one.
Slowly but steadily, Lucas, Sam, Aaron and Conrad begin to form a bond, they become a family. Unfortunately, things aren’t that easy… The story is very well written and I found myself eagerly turning page after page. It is a roller-coaster, your emotions are all over the place, you will find yourself smiling the one minute and crying your eyes out the next. It makes you remember that, time is precious – we should live life to the max and surround ourselves with those we love every minute of every day.
The story of Sam and her brother Aaron was at first so painful with the abuse of his father but her step father and their mother was alcoholic. Then the mother died and the Sam's stepfather is put in jail for it, that leaves Aaron that is just 16 alone but for his sister Sam but she is just 19. Sam phone her real father for help,( her mother lied to her about her father not wanting her) and he takes Aaron and Sam home with him, I LOVED her father, he was so good for Aaron but he also had a step son that Sam or Aaron had not met,Sam was a car driver that built cars and drove them in underground car races. Conrad was a driver with big dreams that his step father (Sam's father)helped with. The only thing I did not was Conrad problem with her being his step sister after they had been together, of course they didn't know they were step sibling at the time but Conrad was a great friend to a lot of friends that he pick up from bad homes for his team mates. Sam and Conrad loved each other was afraid to hurt her father Luke but he was not blind and he loved them and Aaron he was so good to Aaron. Such a great story but I did cry at the end, LOVED the ending but sad too!💗will recommend this book!
This is a beautifully written romance story by Kylie Walker. The plot captivates you from word one which is how I love my romance novels. Samantha and Aaron are step siblings , living with a drunk mother and Aaron’s physically abusive father. Sam loves to race cars, that is her dreams and her passion. Sam doesn’t know her father, he walked out on them when she was a baby after cheating on her mom ; Sam grew up thinking she was unloved and not wanted. Sam ended up meeting her dad years later and he claimed he supported her, sent things for her but she never received a thing. Sam ends up finding out some hard truths which was she was lied to by her mother. On top of that, her mother “commits” suicide. Only its too pat, and it leaves Sam, Aaron and the detectives involved believing she was murdered. Afraid she is about to lose her half brother, she calls her bio dad Luke Glass –That is where the story gets really good. He takes Sam and her half brother in to live with him and that is where she meets her step brother Conrad. Conrad felt this attraction for his new stepsister and he wanted to get to know her-he was willing to rethink all his previous thoughts on women and relationships based on her alone. But something kept him from getting to know her as a person. He just kept throwing up roadblocks. Conrad has demons he is fighting just like Sam does. I loved how Ms. Walker expressed it beautifully and made me see these characters as real. There was so much angst, anger, passion, and love. There are twists in the story along with turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Answers to questions raised in the story will come along and the ending was good and I have to say, keep a box of tissue handy for the ending of the story, for I couldn’t help but tear up. The only minor issue I have is I would have liked to have an epilogue that would have showed the MC and how they were doing after everything that took place; other than that, great story would good flow and plot.
My rating: 4.5 stars **** **I was given an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review***
Merged review:
OOhh one of my favorite themes for romance- stepbrother romance type stories. When I started reading Kylie Walker’s latest, I wasn’t sure what I would find but I was so glad this story is way beyond what I was expecting. It’s a bit different than her other stories but that’s good and I like the richness of this story. This is Sam and Conrad’s story – Sam is a very strong heroine in this story, she is sassy, sweet and has one of those personalities that make you like her immediately. Sam takes care of everyone she loves, even when she needs protecting. Conrad is a sexy racer who has some demons in his past –when these two meet, they immediately find there is an attraction and they fall head over heels for each other; they want each other but there are things that keep them from being together. Many tangled webs drive this story from start to finish. There is twists and turns in this story which has action, suspense, romance, heartbreak, angst, passion, and most importantly love. I would have like more of an epilogue but overall this is a great story that will have you rooting for Conrad and Sam.

I wasn't going to write a review but I felt like I needed to because my rating seems to be the only negative one. I was really excited to read this book, that cover is incredible and I will admit that covers often win me over to reading a book. I read a lot of step-brother romances and love females involved with cars, I was a goner...
I enjoyed the way the book started out, the plot was interesting and the heroine was pretty cool. I just could not bring myself to feel the romance between her and Conrad, I was begging her to give up on that jerk! My problem is that I, without fail, always seem to want the female with a side character, I would've supported any of them to be honest, Shawn was the most likely. Conrad was a selfish character in my opinion and to me, it was very insta-love but not in a believable way. If Conrad was not in this book, it would've probably gotten at least 4 stars, but I could not stand him. I loved Luke, I adored Aaron, give me Beau and let me love the hell outta him because he took over this book for me. I just was not feeling it, but I am seriously praying that we get a book for my sweetheart, Beau.
As a drag racer, who also owns a 66 Mustang, this book was annoying. The author was obviously trying to fake the fact that she doesn't really know anything about cars, or racing. First of all, a cars drive train is built specifically for the type if driving/racing you are going to do with it and it is not possible to be competitive in multiple types of racing with the same drive train. Secondly, the 'christmas tree' is used in drag racing and nor in Formula One or NASCAR, which the author doesn't know the difference between. There are so many other issues with the car parts of this that I won't bore with the list, but it was quite ridiculous. After all of the car annoyance, Conrad was just as irritating. I could see him having his opinion of his relationship with Sam if they had grown up together, but they met before they even found out they were step siblings. Finally, there were a lot of other editing issues throughout as well, missing words, wrong words and the like. Lots of reasons not to like this one.
DNF I am so sad. I wanted to LOVE this story. I have a deep fondness for Step sibling romances, the angstier the back story the better- So reading the synopsis I was stoked. Sigh. Maybe I am just getting too old * coughs* to read/ tolerate romances based on characters who are not mature enough to handle all the ups and downs of life and love or maybe I just didn't mesh with the characters. Made to 50% seemed like a whole lot of whining selfish kids, who enjoyed the power of hurting the ones that loved them the most. Not up my alley- But I am sure there's many out there that love that flair in their romances! I am a fan of Kylie Walker's other works and will continue to be
There is only one word to describe this book. Aww some. This book makes you laugh and cry. I haven't read as good of a book as t his in a long time. Please anyone who has not read it do so now. It is a great read.
This was great story even with the jealously of Conrad hot and cold routine and his ex hanging off his during their race night (he said that he kept stopping her advantages gentlemanly). Sam has had a rough life since she was three when her dad Luke, cheats and divorces her mom but he always wanted to be him Sam's life until her mother took her and disappear. Her mom remarried and now she has a baby brother, Aaron. Years later Aaron is 16 Sam is 19, he's into drinking, drugs and stealing, Sam drags rather e and knows a car inside and out and throughout. Her stepfather feeds her mother alcohol and weed, beats on Aaron, and tries to rape Sam. Sam is one tough teenager and fights back. Until she gets the call from her brother about him finding their mom foamy mouth, needle stuck in her arm and a bottle of vodka next to her. Police suspect the husband but can't prove it so Samantha has a plan when she finds Aaron beat up and bloody. Guess who got a long sentence. Now the hard part, how will Sam keep Aaron out of child services and with her, someone she hasn't seen in years that her mother lies to her for all her life about, her father Luke. He saved her brother and her but what will they have to pay for the good things that came into their lives when Luke rescued them. Love, life, their anchors and family. If it Sanford Luke Sam wouldn't have met Conrad even if Conrad is fighting himself a lot and hurting Sam's heart. Aaron wouldn't have found someone to care for him like he matters and as a real son and Aaron wouldn't have found a big brother in Conrad if it wasn't for Luke.
Reason my heading is worded like it is because my dad taught me about life and got me into fishing and carpentry but he was very adamant that I was never to learn about engines and cars, but I know cars but not the mechanics of one. Anyways he was diagnosed with lung cancer in April of 2002 and two weeks after finding the lump they started him on chemo and or radiation but a little bit like one or two but he stopped the treatments. He passed away on May 8 2002. His cancer spread to his pancreas, liver and kidneys if not more places. So the last few chapters got to me hard.
Another fantastic book by Kylie Walker. Exciting, suspense, abuse, angst, heartbreak, drug and alcohol use, and a lot of emotions running through this book. I love her characters in her stories, and this one was excellent. A young woman who loved racing and meets a guy who loves to race also. Only to find out they have a really close bond they never knew about. The book is a page turner, I was quite caught up in it, being someone who loves racing and has a lead foot myself. The crew all are people who have been through rough times with their families, but together they make up a family. They are there for each other no matter what. I loved the storyline very much and to me it was another excellent book by this author. 💞💞💞
This is a nice quick read that features some serious topics. There is a bit of conflict with the whole stepsiblings thing, but I found it to be a very minor part of the book. No cliffhanger and a HEA (to a point). Samantha is a strong independent woman who has endured so much heartache. I'm glad she and Conrad found each other.
It was a good read, but I felt like something was missing plus there's all this backstory for the other characters that never goes anywhere (unless there are plans for a series), so I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5.
Omg I think I have felt every emotion ! This book is about Conrad and Samantha but so many more to. None of them had an easy life but their better for finding each other. Conrad is the people saver, he takes care of everyone . Sam is the bad add who doesn't think she needs anyone but to take care of her little brother. Thanks to her long lost father anything is possible. Hope Aaron gets a book soneday
Sam has lived with her mother since her parents divorced. When her mom remarried things got worse if it weren't for her half brother she would have left years ago. When their mom died of an overdose Sam turns in her dealer ( her stepfather). In order to stay together and keep her brother out of foster care she calls her father for help. Then they all learn how to love. This book brought tears to my eyes, but hope to the heart. Loved it.
Here is a story that will make you stop and think what is really important in life. By the end will have gone through every emotion there is. Pulled me in from the start and held on to me tell the end. Make sure you have tissues near by, and try not to climb into the book to extract punishment.
Kylie you have done another great job with this book, and I'm glad I got the chance to read it.I really love all of your books and this one is no exception. You have a way with words. You took A good man and put him with people he could show how to be better than you were told.Great job, because I don't think your DNA shouldn't define who you are.
This was a really good read. The emotional battle that these characters are going through is heartbreaking. I felt like the chemistry between the main characters could have been a little better. But other than that it was very well done. I will warn you that if you have a heart it will make you cry!!!
This book had the potential to be amazing, but it fell flatter than a pancake.
There are some pretty dark situations going on in the book, but between the rushed paragraphs and writing, it didnt feel ominous or dramatic. Then Sam and Conrad meet and its BAM. No build up, horrible flow, too much detail in nonsense and not enough details in important aspects.
I’m glad I read this book and I loved how each character has made their lives better than how their lives are because of the situations that they are in. I couldn’t find a way to get into the story line because I couldn’t find a way to connect with story line itself but it was a great book.
I was absolutely blown away by this story. I laughed I cried. I thought the characters were well written and fantastic. Thank you Kylie Walker your books never disappoint and Blindsided was no exception.
Such a good, beautiful story. I thought the characters were well written and I was drawn right in to the story. I felt like I was a part of the family that these characters created and the ending had me bawling. Will definitely be reading more by this author.
This romance novel needed more. It took awhile to get going and there was no romantic relationship build. It was hard to buy the fact they were step siblings with Samantha’s last name of glass never questioned.
This was Heartfelt and full of Suspense. This book had me hooked and brought tears to my eyes. I Highly Recommend this book for over 18 due to content.
This was a good book. But I didn’t care for the end. It was super sad and kind of just ended abruptly. I think it should went a bit further into the future and showed their HEA.
