KT Webb is a multi-genre indie author with a twisted sense of humor. Her stories range from dark dystopian worlds to feel-good children's stories. After publishing her first novel in 2014, she has written and released eleven additional projects.

KT feels most at home when creating fantasy worlds or paranormal adventures, but her mind often wanders to show her stories she never planned to write. It is that aspect of being an author that keeps her excited about the industry.

When she isn't writing, KT can be found binge-watching Netflix, playing with her two children, annoying her husband or snuggling her three kitties (Loki, Coal & Blaze).

I loved this book. I liked the fact all the characters seemed real. They had all had some rougher childhoods but weren't jaded or complained about how terrible or unfair life had been.

I enjoyed how magic, incredible abilities and the explained beginnings came together so well and didn't feel preachy.

The flow of this book was really nice. I found this book to be one that almost all ages could enjoy. I found it hard to put the book down at times because I really wanted to know what was going to happen on the next page.

I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series.

I would like to thank author K.T. Webb for giving me the opportunity to read her book The Evolved in exchange for a fair and honest review.

“Five will remain. The orphan, the divided, the heart, and the brave. They will be the final hope of mankind, and through them, all life will evolve.” This is part of the prophecy about five individuals that will come together to save the world. Bookstore owner Kerr; identical twins Hadley and Whitley, the orphan Thatcher, and kind-hearted Nora. Each of them slowly discover they have superpowers and they start to meet each other and find their destiny.

This book had a fresh and interesting take on well-known mythology. These five youths are the last remaining descendants of The Old Immortals, also known as the Greek gods. As the Old Immortals had children, their powers kept dwindling until they discovered that killing those children gave their power back to them. So some immortals are out to kill the descendants and some are out to protect them. Thus begins the battle that could destroy the world with Absalom, also known as Hades, leading the charge.

Despite the fresh take on the myth, this book failed to grab my attention. I would have liked to know more about the Old Immortals and their many lifetimes and history. I also would have liked to know why Absalom turned out to be so blood-thirsty. I felt like the book glossed over many of the questions I had. It would have been nice if the mythology had been more established.

I feel the same about the powers the five had. Most of them had already known about their powers when the book starts and the only one we get to see really discover the power was Whitley. And even that process was sped up too much. It would have been nice to see her struggle to control and maintain it and really develop the character more.

A common theme in this book was everything was moving too fast and I don’t know if it was because the author was trying to keep it interesting or wanted a shorter book. It takes quite awhile for the 5 to be all introduced and meet each other. Some characters were really brought to life while others weren’t and it was hard to care about all five characters. When a sixth youth was introduced with powers it made the story that much more complicated. It got to the point when characters started to be in serious danger that I just didn’t care too much because I hadn’t developed a connection to them yet.

Love also played a role in this book. Several of the six descendants developed feelings for each other but again, these romances happened fast and I barely had time to start to know these characters before they started to add that new element. I felt like more time spent on these six, learning their powers, and how to work together to fight Absalom would have been better, and then maybe toward the end throwing in the romance.

I’d be interested to know if this book was going to be part of a series. And if so, if the author would spend more time on character growth and the superpowers.

My rating: 2/5 stars.

The Evolved is an intriguing novel that combines fantasy with mythology and theology in a fast-paced mix of romance and adventure. Five people are destined to meet. Their lives will intertwined like the lives of thier ancestors, and they’ll find out that they’re destined to save the world. Unfortunately things aren’t always that easy.

Thatcher is a runaway with quite a few secrets. Hadley and Whitley are twin daughters raised by an absent father. Kerr is a bookworm who can judge people’s character almost right away. Nora Lowell, our fifth member, was raised by relatives after her parents died. Each of them has a supernatural power and then they start to meet each other until all five of them are connected and ready to face their destiny.

The five of them are descendants of the Greek Gods (Old Immortals). That’s an interesting premise, and I was dying to know more. The characters are interesting too, but unfortunately with so many descendants it was hard to get to know all of them during the course of the book. I had the feeling I knew some better than others, and I hope that gets remedied in the next book.

The book was an enjoyable, fast-paced read, and if you enjoy YA fantasy with a hint of mythology, then I recommend this one.

I vaguely remember meeting KT Webb at a South Dakota library once when I was probably I’d say about 16 but I still have this book she signed for me and left a message saying, “Never forget that you can do anything!” I’ve read her book all the way through and recommend others to read it too! Great book and great person from what I remember. I hope you make more out of the three! I haven’t bought the others but I will definitely look into it. Hope you see this KT Webb!

I received a copy in exchange for a honest review but I bought a copy because I fell in love.

The story line was interesting with the take of the Old Immortals being every god that is worshiped. I found that to be completely interesting. I think it was different and something to ponder upon. I loved all the characters especially the Evolved. If I had to pick a favorite it would have to be Thatcher. I find him to the most complex and he seems to grow far quicker than the others. He, in my opinion, is the reluctant hero. He wants to do the right time but sometimes has the issue of making brave decision. Once he gets over his emotions he isn't afraid to throw himself in to the fire. That is my favorite kind of character because it shows what we all think. There are only a few rare people in this world who do things without question so I appreciate someone that evaluates decisions.

Now I'm going to talk about my favorite moment in the book. Anyone who knows me knows about my obsession of fire tornadoes. I mean it doesn't get cooler than that. If I could control anything it would be a fire tornado so when one came about I literally squealed. I squealed from my fire and proceeded to call a few friends to tell them about the fire tornado. It is a big deal in my world and I'm never going to forget this series because of Thatcher and a fire tornado.

I would recommend this book to all of my YA fantasy loving friends. In fact I gifted my friend a copy this morning so she could experience the fire tornado as well. This is the first book I have read from this author and I'm excited to read more. I look forward to the rest of the series.

The Evolved is a unique twist on the aspects of Immortals, Gods and supernatural powers. KT has a gift for writing and her debut novel shows her prowess in creating a wonderful cast of characters. The multitude of characters added to the depth of the vast story of where the powers came from. Added with the possibility of Immortals regaining their powers by killing off their descendants, the book is a wonderful read.
