Five years in prison was supposed to reform me, but it didn’t teach me sh*t.
I tried to start fresh: new name, new town, new life. No more stealing fast cars, no more raising hell, no more women whose names I don’t bother learning.
Yeah, I f*cked that up in no time at all, but it doesn’t matter. I never wanted to be a good guy.
Not until I met Luna. She’s smart as a whip, f*cking gorgeous… and a cop. A detective.
I know I can’t have her. She’ll see through my lies in a second, and she deserves a happy ending that I know I can’t give her.
Hell, with my past chasing me down, I can’t even keep her safe.
All I can give Luna is trouble, and I know it. But I can’t stay away.
I’m not some doe-eyed ingénue.
I date nice men. If I keep saying it, it’ll become true, right?
What I don’t need is the sexy, rakish, tattoo-covered mechanic who’s got one dimple and a lifetime of working with his hands. I don’t need the man who lies to the police, obviously has problems with authority… and who growls filthy things into my ear when we’re alone.
And I especially don’t fantasize about someone who’s a suspect in a double arson. It doesn’t matter if one glance from him makes me want to tear my clothes off, or if the way he calls me detective turns me into a puddle.
I can tell that Stone is trouble from a mile away, and trouble’s the last thing I need.
...right?
Convict is a full-length, 90,000-word novel with a happily-ever-after ending. This edition also includes the bonus books Loaded and Betting on Wolves, which means Convict ends at around 50%.
Roxie is a romance author by day, and also a romance author by night. She lives in Los Angeles with one husband, two cats, far too many books, and a truly alarming pile of used notebooks that she refuses to throw away.
She's the author of the Loveless Brothers series, the upcoming Wildwood Society series, and a bunch of other books that are also delightful.
Dnf at 54% despite this hilarious line of dialogue.
“You ever come on a shitty futon before?”
Luna just laughs, curling her fingers through my hair. “Yes,” she says. I nip at her neck and she grabs my sides, her nails digging in, sweet pinpricks verging on the edge of pain.
I'm so pleasantly surprised by this book! I've never read Roxie Noir before and I had no idea what her writing would be like when I started this book. I've read so many subpar bad boy romance books that my expectations weren't all that high. This is definately one of the best that I've read. I hate reading a book that sounds like a teenager wrote it and I am so happy to report that the writing was mature. The characters were likeable. I can honestly say neither MC's got on my nerves. I enjoyed their banter. They had great chemistry. Good action scenes towards the end. This book was funny and I wasn't expecting to get such a kick out of it. I even loved the h's family involvement. The way she interacted with her brothers was funny, her dad was funny. For such small roles, I really enjoyed them. I can't say that there was anything I didn't like.
This is not a book I would usually pick up. Contemporary bad boys aren't normally my thing. Tattoos - meh. Convict - definitely not. Roxie Noir wrote a book I enjoyed, Ride: A Bad Boy Romance, which is a yes, because cowboys, but a lot of her books feature bear shifters and erotica, so again, not my thing. So why did I read this book? It was the skull tattoo on the cover. I had to find a cover featuring a skull for a Halloween reading challenge. Color me surprised. This novella was terrific, and better than a lot of books that get more mileage in this genre. (See, I even picked up on Roxie Noir's little literary fetish for automobile allusions in this novel.)
The banter is wonderful. The sarcastic, internal musings are filled with those little moments where you offer feedback to yourself that would never, ever be uttered. "Cool, I think. I met someone who does sex really well and wants to talk dirty to me and he's a juvenile offender with a million tattoos and a GED." I loved that both main characters were plagued with internal doubts that don't translate to prat falls. The characters are grown-ups with quirks and problems. The sex is scorching hot. The talk is dirty. The characters felt real, with the exception of some really poor judgment in the workplace for Detective Luna. The suspense plot was in the background for part of the book, but ever lurking. The culmination was well plotted and tense. Great epilogue.
So, the plot in a nutshell is that bad boy transplant Stone Williams has the hots for surfer girl Luna. Then he finds out she is a cop, and the detective in charge of investigating the vandalism that takes place at the shop where he works as a mechanic. She is way too smart and tenacious, and Stone knows he should avoid her, but she is also way too tempting. "I want to let her puzzle me out, get under my skin, see me for me." And that is where the escapades begin for the convict and the cop.
Dnf! Though I was intrigued enough about the suspense aspect I couldn’t stand the actions of hero. He decided to go prowling to scratch his itch after meeting, flirting and being attracted to the heroine. He also chooses a candidate but accidentally meets the heroine there instead. To be clear he doesn’t sleep with the other woman. Still that’s enough for me to loose interest. It also irked me that there is too much information about his past exploits. So I decorated to stop.
This book was an ok read for me. It was a bit slow in the beginning. Plus, I don't think I ever really connected to either the H or the h. There really wasn't anything note worthy in this one. Definitely liked my last read by her better.
WOW! My first Roxie Noir story and I was blown away! Ms. Noir knows how to write bad boys (Stone) and good girls (Luna) and send the reader on a wild roller coaster that doesn't stop. This story has a sexy, hunky, tattooed ex-con in witness protection and a young, hot lady detective looking to bring down the bad guys. When the two meet while surfing, there is instant attraction. They end up having to work together to solve a mystery that Stone knows is connected to his past, but feels he needs to hide it from Luna and their fledgling relationship.
Secretly, I’m afraid that I’m turning into a puddle of horny, sexed-up goo, but I’m barely a blip on Stone’s radar.
I have no idea what it is about Luna, but one look from her turns me into a gibbering sex idiot. Like I’m the ignition and she’s the key that gets my engine purring perfectly.
Lies, deception, steamy sex, kidnapping and shootouts.
Does Luna and Stone stay together?
"Detective," I say, squeezing her hand. "Shut up and be my girlfriend. You shoved your phone into my underwear and then saved my ass. Go steady with me already."
Does Stone finally "unpack"? 1-click this exciting bad boy convict story to find out!

This is another new to me author. What attracted me to this book is I’m quirky and really enjoy the ‘hero has spent time in prison’ trope. It’s a great feeling reading a new author and really connecting with the book. That’s what happened with this one.
Stone is our hero who has spent time in prison. And unlike many other books with this theme, he deserved to be in prison. He did do the crime so he did the time. He was a small time auto thief until he was noticed and recruited by the real bad guys, the syndicate. Things were going along fairly smoothly until he saw something he shouldn’t have, a cargo full of young women and because of that he was set up and sent to prison. But he turned states evidence and when the book opens he is in Witness Protection trying to build a new life for himself.
Luna is our heroine. She is a cop, a good one, who loves to solve the puzzles of crime. Her parents are hippie like and she grew up on a commune, though she denies this. She is now living a kind of life exactly opposite of the way she was raised and as are her brothers.
They meet one morning when Stone is trying to surf at his handler’s suggestion to help control his temper and his rage. And of course it’s not working. He doesn’t know how to surf. He spots Luna and is instantly smitten and when she spies Stone she is smitten as well. They meet again when the garage that Stone works at is vandalized and well, things take off from there. Of course one is a former thief who’s past is coming back to haunt him and she’s a cop.
I loved this book, really loved it. I really felt for Stone. He’s not a bad bad guy. He grew up without a father and a useless mother and he never really had a chance from the start. He knows he’s done wrong and feels very unworthy of Luna. He went against the syndicate not so much to save himself but because he knows what was happening to young women was wrong. And although he’s really gone for Luna, he knows he’s not good for her. Yet in some ways he’s almost like a little boy trying to get her attention. He just really clicked for me and worked wonderfully well as a hero. And I loved Luna. She’s fun and she’s smart and when she finds out about Stone’s past it doesn’t keep her from seeing underneath the surface and that he’s a good guy at heart. And her relationship with her parents and brothers is such a hoot. This book has everything that makes a book work for me and there’s not a question I’ll be reading it again as well as looking up the authors back list.
Two thumbs up and a happy recommendation for Convict
3.5*** Stone first sees Luna at the beach while he is trying to get the hang of surfing. He needs something to do to try and manage his anger issues. He immediately thinks she is smokin hot and she kind of admits that she had been checking him out for a few months.
He has been living in the small town of Tortuga for six months. He is an ex-con who did time for five years. He didn't have a good childhood which lead him to a life of crime at an early age. One night he saw something he wasn't supposed to see and the next day he was arrested. Coincidentally the same thing that got him arrested also was the same reason he was out of jail after five years instead of the fifteen he was supposed to serve.
He once again has a run in with Luna, who he finds out is a detective. She had been recently promoted and is sent to the mechanic shop that Stone works at regarding a vandalism case. He is interested in Luna but decides to keep away because he has secrets and a person like him getting involved with a cop is far from a good idea. He is also not a relationship type of guy and is okay with ONS.
Luna knows Stone has secrets, but she can't help being attracted to him. She is unable to find any information on him, but has suspicions that he knows something more about the vandalism at the mechanic shop. Stone has a suspicion that his past has caught up with him and that solidifies his decision to stay away from Luna.
This was a quick suspenseful, steamy read. There is some humor as well. They are both quick witted and I laughed at some of their banter. It was an interesting concept of the ex-con with secrets who ends up trying to work with the detective to figure out what is going on. The sexual chemistry with these two is off the charts.
If you're into bad boy romance books that are well-written, have a great story-line, well-developed characters, suspense, drama, action, danger, banter, sizzling chemistry, passion, a sexy, dirty-talking, tattoo covered bad boy mechanic, and of course, incredible sex and a HEA... then Convict by Roxie Noir is the book for you. This is one addictive, captivating, and intriguing read!
An ARC of this book was given in exchange for an honest review.
ARC kindly given by the author in return for an honest review. Stone Williams is one hot specimen of a man he's an ex con in witness protection trying to make a new life for himself whilst hiding from old enemies, he tries not to form many attachments as he doesn't want to put anyone in any danger but as the saying goes 'you can run but you can't hide' Stone's past seems to be catching up with him. Luna Rivers is one strong independent woman she's also a Detective her & her partner are called in to investigate a case of breaking and entering/vandalism at the garage where Stone works this is when thier relationship really kicks off she'd briefly met him earlier that morning at the beach, she knows something's going on with Stone but she can't quite put her finger on it but despite her reservations she gives into temptation and the rest as they say is history. This book has it all plenty of action and it's hot and steamy I was hooked from the start.
Girl meets boy. Very Point Break. Local California girl who’s been surfing forever meets California transplant who has more enthusiasm than skill. Sparks fly.
The next time they meet, she’s wearing her detective hat and he’s wearing mechanic coveralls. He’s a person of interest in for the trashing of the garage where he works. He’s innocent, but he knows more than he can say. He recognizes the graffiti tag; he knows who is behind the crime. It’s a shot across the bow, an attempt to root him out of hiding.
Stone and Luna keep crossing paths. Socially, then as part of her investigation, then socially again. Something about Stone twinges Luna’s detective side, but it isn’t till she sees his tattooed back, and recognizes a prison tattoo, that her walls come up.
They slept together, sans condom. And she’s in full blown panic mode. Not realizing she already ran his background and it came up clean, no criminal record. Stone claims the tattoo was from juvie, but Luna’s still uneasy.
Her instincts are correct. He was in prison for five years, before entering witness protection. And he really wants to explain all that to the woman who has come to mean the world to him.
Oh my!! I couldn’t help but be captivated by the amazingly written story and a raw, twisted, darkishly beautiful storyline – plot that the author so skillfully intertwined and told. With fantastic characters and the strength that they needed to draw from each other you will be hooked from page one. The storytelling is powerful, raw, amazing and captivating with so much depth and heart.
Stone and Luna’s story is an emotional, beautiful and raw love story. Stone is an ex con, now in Witness Protection, trying to build a new life. Luna is a good cop. She loves mysteries and solving puzzles of the crime scene. They challenge each other and make each other better. They shouldn’t work but they absolutely do. They are so smitten with each other. Their love story is messy, emotional, healing, insanely romantic, steamy and utterly beautiful with ALL.THE.FEELS. and SWOON. Of course there are mystery, lies, secrets and danger. They changed each other by teaching how to love and trust again. They are effortless and familiar and yet complicated and perplexing. I was very invested in their story which hooked me in from the first page and had me rooting for their happy ending. They started an easy friendship which somehow turned into more. I love their development from the beginning to the end and that they are proof that love always wins.
Bit of a mixed bag this one. While I inicially liked the premise, and was fairly intrigued, the more I thought about the plot, Stone’s backstory, the subsequent conflict with the mobsters, the witsec situation, and the resolution of it all, the less sense it made. I wish the novel focused more on the relationship between the characters and less on the Syndicate, because Noir didn’t do a very good job crafting a suspensful, believable story. I felt like fan-fic and I didn’t like it much. That said, I did like the concept of an ex-con falling for a police detective, so I liked both main characters and their romance, despite the fact that Stone bordered on being tstl on a number of occasions. The banter was well done, the dialogue quippy, the chemistry hot, and the instalove nowehere to be found. Only complaint about this aspect would be the overabundance of sex scenes. After a while, it started to feel like they were there just to add to the page count and nothing more, and I really hate when grown adults are supposedly horny 24/7. It doesn’t work quite like that guys! Overall, I would recommend it if you want something steamy and light, and don’t mind the plot being a bit shit. (Or maybe not shit exactly, but very unrealistic and simple in ways it wouldn’t be irl).
I loved this one! Action and suspense with a love story and steamy scenes thrown in, yes please! Stone is in witness protection, an ex convict who ends up snitching and helping to put away the leader of the syndicate. He was working for them stealing cars but when he finds out they are people trafficking, that doesnt sit right with him. When the garage that he is working at ends up being vandalised he realises that they may have found him and he may be in danger. Enter Luna a detective working on the case. They had previously briefly met at the beach earlier that morning and the attraction between them is undeniable. But is it wise for them to get involved, an ex con and a detective with the syndicate possibly getting ready to close in? This was everything I could have hoped for and more. I do like a good romantic suspense and this had romance and suspense in spades. Well wtitten with great characters, I am aleady checking out other books written by this author
“𝑴𝒚 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅’𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝒖𝒑, 𝑫𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆,” 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒔, 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒗𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒚. “𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝑰’𝒎 𝒃𝒂𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒂 𝒘𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔.” . . I loved this book. It’s a book i completely grabbed based off the cover and title alone and I’m so glad i grabbed it. Stone is an ex con just trying to live a regular life until he meets a Detective he can’t help but have a crush on. Their story is prob one of my favs. Their chemistry is out of this world the steam is absolutely real and i was here for it all. . . Who doesn’t love a bad boy? They’re my guilty pleasure i highly suggest grabbing this book and giving it a shot i promise you won’t regret it !
I can't say I've ever read a love story between an ex-con and a detective before, but Stone and Luna were hot! She tried not to fet involved with him -- a suspect in an arson case, no less. And as much as he was trying to do the right thing now, he felt like the mistakes he'd made in the past meant that he'd never be the man she deserved. I loved their joking about him being the damsel in distress -- and in a great twist, HE is the one who ends up kidnapped. An overall great read!!
First of all, this one is a little embarrassing to put as read because it just looks so scandalous! But also, I don't know...it was a little dumb. Neither of them were being very smart for most of the book. I kind of liked that she was wild, but also she kept suggesting she wasn't so prim and proper, but I don't really remember her ever explaining all that. *shrug* Not the best, but it was still okay.
"I want you like I've never wanted anyone in my life, but I need to hear you say yes." -- Stone
YES YES YES to this book! Stone has made some mistakes and is trying to move forward, but he never imagined his future would include falling head over heels for a cop. Unbelievable chemistry combined with a fast and compelling story creates a forever favorite read.
An ex-con with integrity, a criminal right hand man with a conscience, or a firefighter determined to get his second chance and they're all uber alpha hot as hell. Roxie Noir gives you the best of each. These bad boys will melt your heart right along with your panties!
Stone is an ex convict, in the witness protection scheme trying to live a straight life. Luna, is a police detective who meets Stone when his place of work is vandalised. There is an attraction from the get go, when the Syndicate come looking for Stone and Luna is now in danger they have to work together. Enjoyable.
Roxie writes another amazing book! I just love her novels! Convict is full of angst, love, action, and Roxie really give the readers a great insight into the character's inner demon. Stone and Luna's story is definitely a 5star read! I can't wait to read the next book!
Gritty read with some laughs along the way. Another fab book from Roxie Noir. Now going to read Reign. I want to read Loadrd but can't seem to get that anywhere.
Ik vond deze eindelijk echt veel leuker dan verwacht! Hij deed ook echt meteen een 180! Eerst een enorme fboy, daarna gewoon helemaal simp voor haar. Mooi hoor. Zij is ook echt slim en lekker haarzelf
I love all Roxie Noir books, but this one was not my cup of tea. It’s boring and so incredibly unrealistic. I also didn’t get the surfer stuff. Why start there and almost never get back to that? Do not recommend. (But do recommend all other books by this author!)
This book sat on my TBR list for years and I wish I had read it sooner!!! It was a cute, sexy story about two complete opposites falling for each other.
I’m not sure who my favorite character was, both MCs were lovable in their own way.
summeGreatr reading! Could put it down! Perfect for the beach or warm summer day on your back porch. Roxie's stories are always enjoyable and this was another great story.
