Cyrene Strohm is a Queen’s Affiliate, a high-ranking official of the court of Byern, with power and privilege to spare. But she’s also a keeper of dangerous secrets: like the fact that she holds the heart of the King, and that she possesses magic in a world where magic no longer exists.

Determined to discover what this means and how to use her newfound abilities, Cyrene sets off for the distant land of Eleysia. An island nation where Affiliates are strictly forbidden from entering.

But the journey is perilous, and the destination may mean utter ruin, as Cyrene comes to learn that everything she’s been told her whole life – about her court, her homeland, and even herself—are bound in a beautiful lie.

When I first read The Affiliate by KA Linde last year, I remember thinking WOW! This is so different than anything Kyla has written before. It pulled me in and impressed me big time. I couldn't wait for book 2. I was excited to start The Bound but it took me a while to fully engage myself in the story. I think the biggest thing for me was trying to remember everything from the first book. Once my memory started coming back, I became completely engrossed in Cyrene's journey.

Cyrene Strohm is an Affiliate to the Queen of Byern. But she's no longer in Byern. She's on the run. She finds that she has magic and magic isn't something that is accepted or embraced in Byern. In fact, it doesn't exist there. Cyrene goes off to Eleysia to see if she can find help using her magic and abilities.

Cyrene is not alone on this journey. She has her friends with her (including my favorite Ahlvie) and meets new people along the way (Avoca who totally kicks ass) and . There is also another love interest thrown in (Dean) and I'm honestly not sure what to think about that. We kind of have a love square going on... It's safe to say that I remain a loyal member of Team Edric (for now anyways). I am anxious to see what will happen with him now that .

Now to that ending... Oh Creator! I'm not sure if my heart can take waiting another year before I get the next book! The ending left me speechless and wanting so much more! I have so many questions and I have to know what really happened and who betrayed who.

Linde really pulled out all the stops with the second YA Fantasy story in her Ascension series. This 'world' Cyrene lives in is magical. The writing is so descriptive and beautiful. The story is intriguing, unpredictable and completely fantastical. I love these characters and I'm excited to jump back into their world. I highly recommend this one to lovers of YA, fantasy, forbidden love, and readers of romance who are looking to expand their horizons.

My heart is broken and my stomach is in my throat! KA Linde just put me through an emotional workout. I don't know what to do myself. Okay, that's not totally true....I'm going to read The Consort ASAP! I'm dying to know how this series ends. It’s utterly enthralling!

Here's the breakdown: I don't even know if I can sum this up articulately. So much happened in book 2. SO MUCH! Cyrene meets new travel companions, finds out magical creatures she thought were fairytales were actually real, finds the two people she longed to find, and possibly finds true love.

What I loved: The action and adventure were thrilling. I love the quest Cyrene embarks upon. She's brace and unwavering in her pursuit of answers. I loved her so much more in the installment. She really comes into her own. The character development is off the charts amazing.
The introduction of new threats and adversaries coupled with new allies! The new allies are particularly pleasant. Avoca is everything! The nature of her relationship with Cyrene is worth 5 stars alone. I loved everything about how their story has played out so far.
The romance isn't over the top, but really hit the spot. I have no idea who I want Cyrene to end up with.

The ending through me into a tailspin of epic proportions. I don't know where she goes from here. I'm heartbroken, so I know she is too.

Me, at the end the book:

I think I had things figured out, but alas....I know nothing. LOL

If you love epic, thrilling, positively brilliant YA reads, AND WHO DOESN'T? You need to read this series!! It’s bloody brilliant!

I'm off to read The Consort!

I love K.A. Linde’s books full of angst, sexual tension and characters we love to hate, so naturally, I was ready to her young adult series. As I said in my last review this YA book has a very adult vibe to it since it’s set in this alternate universe, so these are not your typical teenagers.

The Bound picks up where The Affiliate left off. If you read my review for the first book, you know I loved Cyrene, our strong, determined heroine. This book Cyrene didn’t let me down, I love how she isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes is right and does what’s right even going against the grain.

I won’t spoil the story for you, I will just say Cyrene starts her journey and from that moment you are immediately pulled back into this addictive world. Linde paints this unpredictable, vivid world you can’t wait to turn the page and see what happens next. I can honestly say at the end of The Affiliate I would never have predicted what happens in this book. Linde blew my expectations away and left me gasping.

I am so impressed with the world Linde has created and after that ending, I need to know what happens next. Knowing that Linde isn’t afraid to push boundaries scares me a bit, but also has me so excited to see what she will do next with this series! If you haven’t started yet and are a fan of YA, highly addictive reads jump in!

4.5 stars!

Cyrene has left the safe confines of the castle to travel and learn more about herself and her powers. The king is looking for her. He believes that she has been kidnapped, and he feels a strong need to save her.

This book had more adventures in it. I enjoyed it even more because of that. Cyrene’s journey developed her character even more. I liked her even better in this book compared to the last. There were also more swoony moments! The last book wasn’t focused on romance, and I’m not saying that this one is, but it did have more romantic scenes compared to the last book! I appreciated that. The new characters were also a nice addition. I loved them!

I wish I could have waited until the next book came out to read this. The ending was such a cliffhanger!

Linde simply amazes with The Bound.
I've been awaiting this story and jumped for joy when it popped on my device. Diving right in, I thought I was ready. I was not.
The author wastes no time drawing you into the world of Emporia. In typical Linde fashion, she slams you with a heavy dose of angst from the start. (Gasp!)
The vivid descriptions and the intricate detail worked into the story makes it come alive before your eyes. Not overlooking a single element, each character is designed with their own unique qualities that keep you engaged. (Ahlvie is my favorite!) And the plot! I won't get into this—you simply must read it for yourself. Just be ready to be bamboozled.
With a skilled hand, Linde creates some of the most bold and impressive scenes I've read. I found myself turning page after page, unable to put the book down. The Bound quite literally plays out like a movie with a broken pause button.
I was surprised (and delighted!) by the diversity in this book. I've mentioned it is angst-heavy and detailed, but I also laughed a lot in this book. The dialogue and banter between the cast is dynamic and I giggled often. And swooned—I was unprepared for the swoons! The growth of the characters in The Bound allowed for a few romantic scenes that felt just right.
This series is special. Although set in a new world, it's entirely relatable in the overall theme. So much so, in fact, that I'd say it's doused with a little magic of its own.

What in the Creator did I just read?!
The Bound picked up right where we left off in The Affiliate. Cyrene is on the quest to find out more about her magical powers. During the quest she finds out about herself and people who can help control her new magic. In this book we are introduced to some new characters. We also have our regulars from book one. I really enjoyed this book and the journey Cyrene went through discovering her new powers. Some of the revelations that came in this book had me gasping!! Back home in Byrene there is a lot of lies and deception going on!! The scandals are out of this world. This book was very captivating and I found myself not being able to put the book down. I wished we had more King Edric and Cyrene time! After the last book I was hoping for more because I really enjoy the chemistry with these two. Prince Dean is nice but I'm on Team Edric. Let talk about the last few chapters!! After reading those chapter my jaw literally dropped. I was not expecting this and I honestly can't wait to see what direction Linde it going to take this series! I'm normally more of a romance fan and prefer her other books but this series has grown on me! So even if you are a romance buff like me please give it a shot!!

Exquisitely done. This Novel will steal your heart.
I don’t have the right words to form about this book. We had some questions answered while some were not, with new forming questions beginning. Every single chapter had something for me, rather it was a new revelation or an old one that was being answered. I won’t make a long winded review just for the mere fact that this book does not need one.
The plot, the character’s, the world building, and the magic will have you suspended in time. This book is a work of art. It’s one of those books that will stay with you throughout your life. Fantasy lovers will devour this. Everyone will be on pins and needles to get their hands on the next in the series after reading this.
Now to decide the fates. Will it be Cyrene master of all? Will she find love in Edric, Kael or Dean? Will Cyrene and Avoca burn down the world together? We won’t know until next time, and that makes it all the more exciting.
Hands down one of my all time favorite reads. Ever.

Quick & Dirty: Wonderful fast paced fantasy with spectacular romance, action, and magic. If you are a high fantasy fan, I suggest you give this one a try!

Opening Sentence: Jardana’s body hummed with victory.

The Review:

Cyrene Strohm’s life has just recently been turned upside down. As an Affiliate to the queen she is one of the most privileged members of the court of Byern, but she also has magical powers that aren’t suppose to exist anymore. To try and learn more about her powers she must adventure to the land of Eleysia where it is said she can find someone that will be able to teach her. Her journey will be dangerous and she will learn far more about herself and her life then she could have ever imagined.

I adore Cyrene. She is such a fun, witty character. She is kind, spirited, intelligent and loyal. But she is also rash, stubborn and determined to do what she thinks best. She is someone you can admire and root for. Her flaws made her realistic and her strengths made her relate-able. I thought she was a very well rounded character and I can’t wait to see where her story goes next.

To avoid any kind of spoilers, I am not going to go into detail about any of the secondary characters, but I loved each one of them so much. They all added greatly to the story and played their part well. The love interest was very swoony and Cyrene’s group of friends were so intriguing. I really enjoyed learning more about each of them and I’m very interested to see what comes next!

The Bound is a fast paced, action-packed sequel that will leave you dying for the final book. It had been quite a while since I have read The Affiliate, but luckily things came back to me quickly, so I didn’t feel lost in any way. I did feel that there were parts of the story that felt a little rushed but for the most part, I thought it flowed well. The romance was adorable but it did develop a little quicker then I would have liked. Now don’t get me wrong, I loved it, but it felt a little unrealistic to me. The world building was amazing and I really enjoy Linde’s writing, it is captivating and fun. The ending was brutal and left me dying for the next book!!! Suffice to say, this was a great read and I would highly recommend it to all YA fantasy fans!!!

Notable Scene:

Her head tilted to the sky, and with a breath, the dam broke. Her power lashed out of her in a deafening boom, rushing over the monsters like a tidal wave. She heard a crash and saw a beast had dropped to the ground. Another one dropped. And another. Then, they all dropped.

Cyrene clawed tooth and nail across he ground toward the girl. She had no energy left, and darkness beckoned her, but this couldn’t all be for naught.

“Are you ok?” Cyrene croaked.

She reached out to touch the girl to try to offer some comfort.

“What are you?” the girl breathed.

Cyrene blacked out before she could answer.

4.5 STARS

I have been patiently waiting for this book for over a year. I enjoyed the first installment of this series, but The Bound is on a completely new and intense level. I was riveted from the first pages and could not put it down. It was one thrilling roller coaster ride, and The Bound is one of my top fantasy reads for the latter half of 2016.

The Bound picks up right after The Affiliate ends, but everything from the first book is completely turned upside down in the prologue. I was in complete shock and still can’t fully wrap my mind around everything that transpires. The action is nonstop throughout the book. Several new characters are introduced and older characters are seen in an entirely new light. Cyrene continues to become more confident in herself and her abilities, and I loved seeing her character emerge and grow more powerful.

As shocking as the beginning is, nothing compares to the closing chapters. I was reeling and still can’t stop thinking about it several days later. This book has it all; magic, action, betrayal, shifting alliances, and romance. It is everything fantasy readers live for in a series.

I will be in agony waiting for the third installment of this series. The most powerful books are those that continue to reveal secrets with each reread. I’ve already discovered new things I missed in the first read while preparing my review and know there are more hidden gems yet to be discovered. I RECOMMEND this series to any fantasy reader.

I loved the Affiliate, but the Bound didn't work for me at all. It took me half the book do be able to get into the story. I felt like I was reading a new story. Also I would put the book in the Young adult category. With all those killings and things that happened it seemed more like New adult/adult. The story dragged for me and the story had a couple cliches that didn't help the case. The main character was involved in a love triangle and if that wasn't enough a secondary character was also torn between two people. Why are love triangles necessary? And they are pointless. I hope the author won't use the person I have in my mind for the father of ***s baby.

I feel like the author tried to threw a not even half baked romance at our face in order to fill a couple of pages for the shake of more drama. Cyrene was melting at the sight for half the men she was seeing. The brothers and then a new man who is the other half of that disastrous romance. I don't even know how things became romantic. One day she is seeing him more like a friend, then she is kissing him and then she is saying I love you to him. When did that happen? The time between the kiss and the I love you was spend with her training. Insert the that escalated quickly meme here. I was disappointed in that department.

The book was a disappointment in general. The characters didn't have much development and that cliffhanger in the end didn't give me the urge to read the third book like yesterday. When I read the end I was said "In your face!" out loud. I am not sure about my feels for book 3.

I really enjoyed the Affiliate when I read it last year.  I loved the world that KA Linde had created and was invested in Cyrene, Kael and Edric.  But when I jumped into the pages of THE BOUND I didn't find myself as engrossed by this portion of the series, instead feeling like it was dragging a bit.

In THE BOUND Cyrene is traveling to Eleysia where she hopes to understand more about her magic.  But nothing with Cyrene ever goes as planned.  She soon discovers that people she assumed were parts of fairy tales exist and everything she has been taught in Byern may not be true. Cyrene and her group of friends have to figure out who they can trust on their journey because not everyone is friendly to their cause.

We spent a lot of time with Cyrene in Eleysia, which meant having another "world" built for us.  We had to get to know new characters and dynamics while Byern was left behind.  I enjoyed watching Cyrene get to understand her powers and about the world outside of Byern, I missed Edric.  I missed him with Cyrene.  And as move of the story unfolded, I wondered how the information Cyrene learns will change how she feels about the King of her home country.

The pace of the book definitely picked up with the later half.  A lot happens to Cyrene and we're left wondering what the heck just happened at the end.  I'm anxious to see what KA Linde gives us next.

Excerpt
Staggering down the hallway, she didn’t even look up when she heard her name.

“Hmm?” she asked.

“Cyrene, there you are!”

Someone grabbed her shoulders, and she tipped her head to look up into the most beautiful face. She smiled and felt a renewed burst of energy flow through her.

“Hey,” she whispered.

“Hey,” he said, threading his fingers through hers. A shiver ran up her back. He glanced around the empty hallway and then tugged her away from the main corridors. She turned a corner, and he pressed her back into a darkened alcove. His mouth was only inches from hers.

Her exhaustion was wearing off from the excitement of being with him.

“I was really worried about you,” he breathed.

“You don’t have to worry about me,” she said, trapped in his gaze. She teetered on her tiptoes and nearly brushed their lips together. Her heart was racing ahead of her. This felt almost better than reaching for her magic. Definitely better than moving one drop of water at a time all day.

“You’re wrong.” Then, he softly dropped his mouth down on hers. His lips were tender and slow as they caressed hers. “I will always worry for your safety.”

Cyrene’s cheeks heated, and she sighed, leaning back against the hard stone of the alcove. “I didn’t mean to worry you.”

His hands pushed up through her hair and tilted her head back up to look at him. She closed her eyes and sighed. She was so tired, and just the feel of his fingers was lulling her to sleep.

“That feels good.

His mouth found hers, and despite her exhaustion, she pushed back against his lips with more force. She refused to let the fact that she was tired get in the way of her time with him.

“Whoa,” he said, pulling back from her. He rested his forehead against hers, and she could tell he was breathing heavily. “As much as I want this, and I do, I want to make sure you’re okay. This didn’t scare you away?”

She shook her head. “This, most certainly, does not scare me.” Then, she kissed him again for good measure.

He laughed. “Good. Because I’ve been wanting to kiss you since I first met you.”

“You have not!” she insisted.

“Are you kidding? A gorgeous, feisty woman who wasn’t afraid to put me in my place the first time she met me? I mostly certainly have.”

When readers consider the works of USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde, I’m certain her new adult and contemporary romance novels come to mind. Linde is the successful author of the Take Me duet and the Avoiding, Record, and All That Glitters series. But during the fall of 2015, Linde branched out into young adult fantasy with the release of The Affiliate, the first novel of her Ascension series. And you know what? I was really impressed – so impressed that it’s been difficult to contain my excitement for the release of The Bound, the second novel of the series!

Cyrene Strohm is an Affiliate, the highest ranking position a woman can attain in the court of Byern, but she also has secrets. She holds the heart of King Edric, and she also possesses magic. Magic has been strictly forbidden, even nonexistent, in Byern for nearly two thousand years. Having intense feelings for Edric, while also fighting something so innate is a difficult predicament for Cyrene to be in – especially when she has little to no control over her newly discovered abilities. Advised to travel to the island nation of Eleysia, Cyrene sets off with her friends on a search for Matilde and Vera, two women who can teach her how to control her magical abilities.

The prologue of The Bound is ONE OF THE BEST that I have ever read! Linde chose a very bold way to begin this novel, revealing something which is key to the overall plot of the series. After reading The Affiliate, the prologue was eye-opening to say the least! In the first few chapters of The Bound, Linde nicely recaps what we have already learned about Cyrene, while also refreshing our memories of events which occurred in The Affiliate. This will be helpful for those who are considering a reread of The Affiliate prior to reading The Bound.

In The Bound, Linde introduces us to several new characters who I think will be important to the overall series. At the end of The Affiliate, Cyrene convinces Orden, her friend Affiliate Maelia Dallmer, and High Order Ahlvie Gunn to flee Byern with her. It doesn’t take long before we meet Avoca and Ceis’f in the Hidden Forest, and as you will find, Avoca is especially important in The Bound. Then, we are introduced to Dean Ellison in the woods of Aurum. Dean is positively dreamy, and he’s definitely a character I’ll be watching for in future novels!

At different places in the novel, I’m pretty sure Linde is foreshadowing. Linde plants seeds in the minds of readers by showing us possible future outcomes. She did this with the Ring of Gardens Ceremony in The Affiliate, and she does it again in The Bound. I also began to notice that history seems to be repeating itself, two thousand years later. With Cyrene’s dreams and/or visions, we are able to see parallels between current characters and those who lived in the past. Between foreshadowing and history repeating itself, I’m extremely intrigued to see where Linde is taking Cyrene’s story.

Linde’s world building is imaginative, and her descriptive writing calls forth the senses. She uses colorful, evocative descriptions in The Bound. As an example, she gives us vivid illustrations of cities and random details about customs, clothing and traditions. The Ascension series also appears to have a complex plot, with The Bound being a piece of a large puzzle. Linde must have put a great deal of time and effort into plotting this series because it feels like we are only now beginning to crack the surface.

Overall, The Bound is a great fantastical adventure, and I enjoyed it even more than The Affiliate! The Bound is one of my 2016 favorites, and I’m giving it 5 stars!

I must say that I really enjoyed the first book, The Affiliate, it broke me out of a reading slump I had been in and seemed to be a wonderful start to a new series. The Bound was alright at best. I didn't feel any of the pull towards characters and situations that I normally do when reading other books by KA Linde. The delivery of this book felt like someone telling a story in a monotone voice and run-on sentences who would then forget what they were saying only to start up again in a slightly different spot. This book had good ideas, however, the delivery of the story was lacking.

I loved The Affiliate and was so sad that this one didn't grab my attention. I tried a couple of times but ended up being confused about what was going on.
I plan on trying this at another date to see if it was just me being a mood reader and not being in the mood at this time

I almost gave up on the first book, but then the last 20% got intense, so I decided to give the second one a try and I'm glad I did. This book stepped up its game and was so much better than the first! The instalove is still very much that, but there were a lot more interesting things going on that kept me intrigued. Enough that I'm on to book 3 now.

This book did not disappoint. So many twists and turns and plot twists. The author kept me on the edge of my seat and I experienced so many roller coaster of emotions. Cyrene was doing what her gut told her, traveling where she was supposed to be to learn how to control her magic and the whole time you’re rooting for her even though there are evident characters who you know are going to do anything they can to make it difficult for her and then Wham! Major plot twist at the end that had me like whoa...I immediately started the next book just so I can see how K.A. Linde is going to get Cyrene out of this situation. Such a great second book in the series.

***May contain spoilers***
WOW! It was a HUGE HUGE HUGE GINORMOUS GIGANTIC LARGER-THAN-A-MAGNIFIED-JUPITER improvement from the uh, less than ummm appealing first book the first book was so um, tedious that I would rather swim in muddy poop water with crocodiles while naked.

ANYWAY

This book was fantastic!! I only have like, an itsy bitsy amount of dissatisfaction with it which I will elaborate on later. SOOOOO

This book was EVERYTHING the first book was not *sorry!!*

It WAS:
ENGAGING (with plenty of action to hold my attention) ✔

Filled with LESS gaps (more stuff in the first book was explained and minor

Better paced with ACTUAL plot that didn't get plunk in at like, 80% of the book ✔

THINGIES actually MADE SENSE ✔

Cyrene is less um, dumb intellectually challenged and actually THOUGHT stuff through (kinda) ✔

It WAS NOT:

OVERLY TEDIOUS WITH LIKE, HALF THE BOOK DEDICATED TO THE INFATUATION WITH KING EDRIC (thank god he didn't appear MUCH throughout the book phew)✘

INSTALOVE yay!!! I actually LIKE Dean

HOWEVER

There are some things I found um, less pleasant

THE BINDING THINGY FOR EXAMPLE.

SO, you saved this girl's life and in exchange for that, the girl got bound to you and inherited your POWERFUL MAGIC and turns out the girl's even better at magic than you? Oh, did I mention that said binding, if it were to fail, would result in at the most, DEATH? No biggie right? Oops, forgot to mention that they literally met like, three days ago (maybe less). o.O How smart right?

Hmm what about the SMALL detail that Cyrene thought it was an AWESOME idea to release her powerful magic right when she was having s*x with Dean umm, having procreational activity with Dean hmmm? Thank god nothing happened, other than she summoning this bad*ss storm that she couldn't stop which destroyed like half the city. Hmmm

ANYWAY those are some of the things I didn't like that much. To move on, overall I give this book 4.25 stars and BEST IMPROVED BOOK award because WOW! it was a huge improvement. HIGHLY recommended. I'm highly anticipating the next book! <3 (my standards may be a bit too high tho xD)

Sim, sou chata e o final me fez tirar a estrela a mais desse livro.

Ps: Não li o primeiro livro, mas consegui acompanhar sem problemas, atá porque a autora foi uma querida e colocou até um mapinha para acompanharmos o reino e para onde estão indo.

Pss: Que capa linda! Só por ele você já compra qualquer coisa não?

Have you ever read a book that left you in a state of turmoil? One that had you filled with so much hope and joy, not to mention Love, Love that you could feel coming off the pages and implant itself into your heart? But then the closer you get to the ending, you feel that tear, that ripple in your chest and finally after reading the last page, your heart is in your stomach and you have so many emotions you're not sure where to begin. Well that’s what this book did to me; it left me so passionate and broken.

The Bound by K.A. Linde was the most magical and brilliant story I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing. It will be forever implanted into this reader’s soul. I have never had a book leave me at such a loss for words. There just isn’t anything I could say that would give this book the praise it deserves.

The story begins where book one: The Affiliate left off, so you are instantly drawn back into Cyrene’s journey. I loved her character and all the others in the story. I especially enjoyed getting some new faces in this book. I was completely taken by Dean. He was a remarkable man, so when everything happens at the end, I felt Cyrene’s pain. I felt her loss and I am so anxious for the next book so that maybe that pain will be healed.

So if you enjoy a story that places you in the book with the characters and leaves you so emotional you aren’t sure how you’ll ever come back from the pain, then you need to read this one. It’s a book no one should miss out on. *Please note you need to read Book One first in order to know what is happening in Book Two*

I give The Bound by K.A. Linde FIVE out of FIVE DEVOTED STARS!

Incredibly magical, suspenseful and laugh out loud funny!

K.A. Linde starts the bound off in a way that greedily inspires you to read on. You are instantly drawn into the world that she created with emotions that slam right into you. Her writing is so vividly detailed that it makes it easy to get lost in the pages. Every aspect of this book is designed to breathe life into the story as well as keep you engaged, and it works!

The story took me on an emotional roller-coaster that I didn't want to get off of. It was full of angst from the very beginning. It's riddled with betrayal, romance, swoon worthy moments, and surprising a lot of laugh out loud humor.

The characters are so complex that I couldn't help but relate to them even though the story takes place in a different world.

This is the second book in the series and it has been amazing to watch Cyrene change and grow as she progresses through her journey. She has grown into a brave women who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes is right. My heart was thudding as I tried to figure out who she could trust and who were going to be disloyal.

This novel ended in a cliff hanger so I need the next book as soon as possible. If you are considering reading this series, you won't regret picking up the first book.

*4 Bound Stars*
