I wasn't sure what to expect of this book about biker life. Was this going to be an existential tale of riding and how it relates to life? Perhaps a philosophical examination of the call to ride? Maybe it was going to be a behind the curtain exposition on the Daytona area bike scene.
It is none of those things but perhaps has traces of all of them as well. What Clutch and Throttle is is two riders trading tales of their life on two wheels. One, a veteran rider, the other the novice. Through the stories they trade back and forth you get a sense they are recounting stories everyone who has ridden the steel horse can relate to.
Me, I've never ridden. I enjoyed the casual stories of the perils of learning to ride, visits to wild biker bars and how to take in the scene at bike events. I'm not inspired to ride but I'd be happy to hear more tales from the road.
