I'm not bragging, but guess who made a cover to it
*pokes on herself*

Today was supposed to be a new birthday for Black Chess, but the Pillar turned it into a funeral.

If you'd ask me about the name of this book, I would say it's wrong. More appropriate name is The Game of Wonderlanders because as you can see from my updates there were A LOT OF DEATHS. Like always, but still. I wasn't ready to see how some of them are dying, but also I was pleased to see when died the others (sorry, won't tell who that were). Won't spoil anything (I will try, really!), so just go with me.

If you've read the 6th book, you know that Alice knows now about her family (not all), what happened to them (also not all), so in this book you are answered to most of the questions you had since 2nd book, but, SURPRISE, you have now a lot more of them. For example we are answered about who is The Dude or who's the Patient 14, or what happened with the Cheshire. But also you dunno why who is Mr. Jay, or what the heck is going on in this series at all. Because, geez! It's the Wonderland War! You need to choose sides, because Death is literally knocking on the asylums's door.

But actually nobody knows what is the Wonderland War about. As Fabiola said I have no idea what we're fighting for. The same in my situation. All 6 books we were told about WW and that's a horrible thing and we're told about Six Impossible Keys, we're looking for them with Alice and Pillar but this time we won't need them. Why do you ask? Because you need a lot more. You need to be more brave and smart and know how to shot with a gun. The main difference between The Game of Thrones that Family uses guns and TGT uses swords. Another is totally the same: deaths, deaths, deaths. Do you wanna know if Alice'll survive this war? I won't answer, you need to read it by yourself.

Btw, in this book you'll see a character you've never expected to see again. So be ready :)

In conclusion, I will use nonsense:

“You know about Wonderlastic logic?”
“You mean nonsense.”
“It’s a logic.”
“Nonsense isn’t a logic.”
“It is. It makes sense if you give it a try.”
“It’s called non-sense, meaning ‘no sense’ so it doesn’t make sense.”

See? That's mad!
Liked it a lot, so 10 of 5 stars. Can wait to read the 8th one!

Certainly not a bad book by any stretch of the imagination, but this is one of the stranger entries in the series. This is definitely not a plot based story, but the trade off is that the characters are completely entertaining with their speech and actions. My biggest complaint is that this book gets too involved with real world politics and terrorism. I understand that some commentary is needed to make your book relevant, but placing it in this setting was just out of place to me. So if you're like me and have been reading this since day one, you'll get a kick out of it. It was better than the last one.

The seventh book of the series keeps up with Alice, who now tries to find her real family. Okay, honestly, I didn't get all hyped up on this one because it's been a long time since I started this series, but it was a nice read. This got even more complicated, if that could ever be possible! The book in general was easy to read, fast paced and interesting, though the romance still bothers me (when Alice fell in love so hard for Jack? They met like five times through seven books!). So, 3 out of 5 stars : D

I wanted so desparately to have something completed before classes start. So that when I'm in lecture, I'm not ignoring my professor's comments on why steel is better than plastic for this particular application so that I can puzzle over Pillar's motives instead. But alas... this is not the end of the series. It's an interesting plot with plenty to keep you moving. But there's a book 8 that's not out yet. (Sorry college professor, it's not my fault I can't focus.) I am having the sneaking suspicion that there will be 14 total. That is kind of the magical number, isn't it? And so... sorry Mr. Jace, I'm ignoring your series (except for while I puzzle it out in class) until you're done with the whole thing. I don't think I can take thinking I'm almost at the end only to discover I'm not even close again.

Lots of twist and turns which kept me entertained from start to finish. I liked the pace and also the story and character development. A nice addition to an enjoyable series.

Hooked again!!

I was very upset at the end of book 6 because it had begun to feel as we we're starting to on a hook and never getting closer to knowing the real stories of the characters true identity and reasons why the characters did what they had done to help Alice. I had vowed that if it felt the same after book seven that I would stop reading until possible the series was over so I could read them all at once.

This book was redeeming by finally giving us back stories, identities, and so much detail that I began to connect with the characters on another level leaving me anxious to read the next one. I won't be able to wait until the series ends because book 7 was so amazeballs!

Great job Sir! Keep feeding us info as much as you offered in this piece of the puzzle book on your next one!!

What could I say without repeating my statements from the last reviews of this book sequel?!
Nothing!
Again great entertainment and finally some revelations. However, it is still exciting, because there are some open and very important questions left. I am really looking forward to Insanity 8!

Thank you so much, Cameron Jace, for this great adventure!!!

I don't normally write reviews, but I wanted to talk about this series! There are no spoilers ahead so feel free to read, especially if you're yet to read this instalment.

When I started reading the Insanity series a few weeks ago, I was dubious. To put it bluntly, the writing wasn't great, but Jace doesn't consider himself a 'writer' in the conventional sense: he refers to himself as a 'storyteller', and I appreciate that sentiment quite a bit. So I continued. And now here I am.

The progression in Jace's writing from the first to the last book is honestly astonishing. He has a lot of potential and he's really beginning to grow as a writer. The writing in this instalment is still a little bit shakey - some of the dialogue is awkward, some twists are glaringly obvious, and he tends to retcon a lot of the previously established lore of the series - but things are really starting to flow now. Some lines are downright beautiful and Jace is churning out some really thought-provoking sentiments about the world as we perceive it and the socially-acceptable madness within our society. It's amazing to see a writer progress so much in such a short space of time. The first book was released just over three years ago now and as endearing as it was, it just doesn't compare to what Jace has done in the last two instalments. He has made me a fan - not just because he chose to write a dark Alice in Wonderland tale (which is my favourite kind of tale) but because his passion and growth. Oh, and his characters.

Let's face it - it's the characters that have fuelled this series. Until I closed this book and realised I wouldn't have another instalment waiting for me tomorrow, it didn't even occur to me how attached I'd grown to Alice, Pillar and their rapidly growing circle. They're just so lovable. 'Family' is definitely a more character-driven than previous instalments and it has worked wonders for the series as a whole. Keeping everyone in close proximity and more or less in the same space for an entire book has given them room to grow. Tom Truckle and The March Hare in particular here, although Alice and Pillar also had some really great development, especially in regards to their relationship. Their interactions are definitely my favourite part of any Insanity book: the dark Alice in Wonderland thing has been done to death but I think this is the first time I've seen the Caterpillar as Alice's primary companion, so it's quite refreshing. Plus Jace never, ever takes anything too seriously, like so many dark 'Alice in Wonderland' writers/game devs/etc tend to do. The pure and utter nonsense involved in some of the puzzles, dialogue and motives took me a while to get used to, but it's the way Lewis Carroll would have wanted it (if he could, you know, envision a twenty-first century England and Alice with a mobile phone). Pillar is the heart and soul of this series and if you can't get on his level, then you're never going to 'get' it.

I'm really interested to see how the series progresses in 'Mushroom', especially now things are starting to come together and questions are being answered. I would really like to see some more development with Alice and Jack, assuming he's Alice's end-game love interest, because I'm still on the fence about their relationship. I'm starting to see the chemistry there, slowly but surely. Still, I feel like Alice and Pillar would be far more believable, by a long stretch, and I can only assume with a name like 'Mushroom' the next instalment is only going to cement my fervent belief that there are sparks flying between them, because Pillar is clearly going to be a focal character.

But yeah, I don't have much left to say without bordering on spoiler territory, so I'll leave it there. If you're intrigued by this series but have any trepidation due to it's length, the writing style, or the fact that you've read something like it before - don't. Just read it. You can thank me later.

I've read the books 1 - 7 in the last four weeks and I really really like them but there are some things that make me roll my eyes while reading:
1. So repetitive. Is it really that necessary to tell some parts of the story again and again especially when I've read the same stuff just some pages ago?
2. Too many explanations. When there's a revelation of some mysterious thing that happened on the last pages or chapters then I don't see a need for double explaining it. It's not like these books are hard to understand so it's definitely enough explaining once in a normal language than explaining it again in a way a 4 year old could understand.
3. You shouldn't put things like ISIS in your books. Just don't.
4. Please google the real mental illnesses you mention in your books. It's 2017. By now everyone, especially an author who uses these terms, should know the difference between schizophrenia and dissociative indentity disorder. As a person with schizophrenia I can tell you it's unnerving hearing and reading it everywhere. Also it's not very funny that everyone uses mental disorders for explaining the behaviour of villains or simply people who are partially nuts. That's insulting.

But as I said I like these books very much and will definitely buy the next ones, too. Very fluid writing style, doesn't get boring, nice fun facts in between and even if some things are easily predictable there are many surprises.
Thanks for the writing the books! :)

*******

Innerhalb der letzten vier Wochen habe ich die Bücher 1 bis 7 gelesen und mag sie wirklich sehr, aber da gibt es ein paar Sachen, bei denen ich beim Lesen nur die Augen verdrehen kann:

1. So wiederholend.

***edit: Totally forgot about it. What the heck about all the similarities between the Pillar in this book and "Raymond Reddington" from "The Blacklist"? I instantly had the face of this "Red"-guy in mind, already in book one.
They are at least 95% the same: a huge secret towards the female main character, unclear if good or bad person, mysterious past, kinda lives the high life, private jet, being arrogant in a way, even similar looks. This can't be by accident.

Holy crap. The things we've learned about Pillar and The Dude blew my freaking mind. This series is just so good! Alice is finding out who she is and who her family is/was. That's somewhat heartbreaking on it's own.

Quotes:
In the middle of the war, there is love. In the depth of the dark, there is light.

“It’s okay. Anger is good, I think. It makes you do a few things right, things you wouldn't do otherwise.”

I feel happy without a reason to be happy.”
“Don’t be embarrassed about it. Only adults are so messed up that they rationalize the need to have a reason for being happy,” I say.

She was too late. And if she was to blame anyone, it would be the Pillar, the man who’d hurt her so much she hated herself and the life all around her.

If birds hummed because they didn’t know how to speak words, then Alice’s silence was the same. She didn’t know what to say. What to feel. She wished she could numb herself to death right now. She didn’t want to feel this. Talking about it only stirred the pain.

I see it. I see how we all can be hard on ourselves. Even though we do our best, and sometimes perform miracles, we’re just dramatic creatures. We seek perfection. Stupid perfection that has no meaning whatsoever. The same way I’ve been taunting myself for not doing the best job, Constance has been persuaded she should do a perfect job. Just like superheroes in a movie. But that’s not real life. We do what we have to do, and the results will always stand short. It’s not so much the results that make it up. It’s that we tried. It’s that we cared.

“One last thing,” the Pillar said, still not looking back. “You promise me you’ll take care of her.”
“I will, Pillar,” the Dude says. “Alice means everything to me.”
“Words are cheap.”
“So are promises,” the Dude joked.
“Then it’s love that counts,” the Pillar said. “As cheesy as it sounds.”
“That’s the best thing you’ve said, Pillar,” the Dude said. “Love is what counts.”

Another great story about Alice Wonder. Glad to see that most of the grammer errors have been tidied on this one although there were a few still dotted through the book. So this time around the Inklings are trapped in the Ayslym and there is no way out or is there. The Pillar and the dude are working together to save Alice but will they succeed. This was a bit more edge of your seat stuff with the tunnels and the characters all coming together. looking forward to Mushroom. don't want this series to end.

4 stars, solid addition
This isn't my favorite book in the series, but it was a fun and fast-paced read. Being in a contained environment makes for an interesting dilemma for the characters, and that makes for interesting dialog.

This book has a number of typos in it, which I don't remember having such a prevalence in the earlier books in the series and is rather unfortunate. Jace also attempts to tie the plot in with real-world issues plaguing the world currently - politics and terrorism, and the hysteria fanned by the media and those in power and I am not sure how I feel about it.

Even though we do our best, and sometimes perform miracles, we’re just dramatic creatures. We seek perfection. Stupid perfection that has no meaning whatsoever.

I’ve been reading this series for a while now but this book, fell flat for me. The book prior to this was much better. This one had less action and was more confusing I guess? I don’t know something just felt off compared to the others. The book before this one and then this one makes me a bit sad that I’m not enjoying this series as much when I read the first few books. Which in my option, the first ones are a bit more fun. I will finish this series since there’s like two books left? But I won’t read the spin off after this.

Heart racing madness

Alice is always getting away just when you think her time has come. The march plays such a big part into this store yet I though he0 was just a player on the chess board. This story is getting more intense with every chapter, n every book. I'm always left wanting more.. Constance is everything at this moment so willing to do anything to save alice. The war has begun...
