Chris Bacon is dead. Long live Chrisander Baccioni?
Unable to walk or talk coherently after a hit and run attack, Chris finds himself on the other side of the world with Jase firmly in babysitting mode. Pity and betrayal, even if it was for ‘his own good’ wasn’t something Chris tolerated from anyone, least of all from an ex-lover who was hanging around only out of a misguided sense of duty.
The barely breathing battered boy was all Kathleen had to wipe away her daughter’s shame and continue the Baccioni dynasty. Despite Chrisander’s unfortunate childhood, her grandson was young enough to mould into a god-fearing family man. Surely only an idiot would reject a life of respect and luxury with a beautiful, intelligent woman by his side, for a grubby little flat and a dirt poor, ex-army sergeant.

I really loved book 1 in this series, Optical Illusion, but unfortunately, book 2 was a miss for me. I was so frustrated with the book, I honestly wanted to DNF it, but I pushed through and finished it. As you know, book 1 ended in a cliffhanger, and Optical Illusion starts up almost right after the hit and run. Chris is recovering in the hospital, when his newly discovered homophobic Grandmother from the US shows up and whisks him and Jase over to the Baccionii family compound. Apparently, Chrisander is heir to the Baccioni family multi-million dollar fortune. Of course, she didn’t approve of the relationship between Jase and Chris, and tries to push Jase out of the picture. Of course, there is lack of communication, which puts their stress on their relationship. When Jase flies home to England, Chris does not handle things well at all. Of course, there are plenty of vultures to help him. . Both Chris and Jase are lost and utterly broken without each other. When Jase returns to the US, what will he find? Will Chris want to return to England, or become Chrisander Bacconi? I did have a few problems with this book. The way the homophobic, Catholic-American Grandmother was portrayed, was a little over the top for me. Plus, the character I hated most in the story, Stephanie, sort of just fizzled out. The ending had me asking myself “what the hell?” It was just too rushed and didn’t make sense.
I was graciously gifted a copy of this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review
The continuing story of Optical Illusion... it was different, I almost couldn’t handle this one. The homophobic family, Chris indoctrinated by everyone around, the separation...the way he was held 'prison'. My dear heart almost couldn’t handle it.
But I did go on reading because I owed it to Chris and Jase. Everybody wanted to control Chris.. for the good or the bad... it made me so antsy and angry! With Chris his complexity it was even for me as reader sometimes difficult to understand what was good or bad for him...
Optical Illusion ended with a cliff and Blank Canvas continued it from there... The harsh life for Chris is not over...he is more dead than alive. Jase tries very hard to make it all bearable but even for him it is hard. Then there is someone from Chris his past who has a lot of power... and everything changes. I think I broke a nail in my already bloody palm while reading.. ghaawd, not good -not.good.at.all-
There is a lot going on in this read and all written in a steady pace, no rush. It was a broad and entertaining story and even sometimes tedious, because how it all went for Chris. There are some individuals who I wanted to strangle... but thank goodness there were also personalities I wanted to embrace or cuddle (hiiii Nate :)
I was constantly forgetting Chris is only eighteen... with al he’s been through... luckily he did something that belonged somehow to his age... I laughed out loud, he was refreshing, endearing and he just lit up his whole environments with his attitude. Throughout the whole story there was Jase, in the background or on the front, nearby or far away... Jase was there... always.. unconditional... strong, caring, thoughtful, sturdy, grumpy and at times very horny!! I loved this story even with the parts I absolutely didn’t like... My next read...? Invisible Ink Paint #3!!

If you have read the first book, then you know what happens to Chris at the end. If you think that this book is a sugary sweet conclusion to Jase and Chris’s romance, then you are dead wrong. This book is as dark as the first one. The emotional turmoil was huge. The pair spends a whole lot of time apart which I was not a huge fan of but the conclusion mollified me a bit. I still want to hunt down and seriously hurt that asshole Daniel (U will too after you read the story!)
Chris never had much in his life. After his mother dies and he meets Matt, Chris finally finds people who really care for him and love him. He is happy with his new life as a brand new art student while owning his own apartment with his “sarge” Jase. But life throws another curveball his way when he is heavily injured after a hit and run. That’s when he first comes to know about his “loaded” grandmother, Kathleen Baccioni. Chris is flown to USA for healing and learning about his new life. But what would have been a “Cinderella moment” for any other person leaves Chris in a tailspin when his grandmother tries to mold him into a person he could never be.
Chris is still the same vulnerable and insecure person he was before. After his accident he finds himself in a world which does not soothe his ragged nerves at all. His grandmother’s non-acceptance of his mother and all the big expectations heaped on him does a number on Chris. His one constant pillar is Jase but their relationship gets strained as well part due to the homophobic atmosphere of the Baccioni household and part due to Chris’s own insecurities.
Chris is kept in the USA as a security measure but he still gets abused in a different way. He was supposed to be safe in the Baccioni house but there are individuals who are after him for their own selfish gains. I just wanted to yell at times to cut Chris a fuckin break. Chris had so much happen to him in such a short life but bad things still kept on happening to him.
There is very less Jase and Chris than I would have liked in this story. Jase has to go back to UK because of a family emergency and he leaves Chris in the hands of his uptight family. I am upset with Jase with how he handles the whole “Daniel” thing. I wanted Jase to bash that bastard’s head in.
Chris and Jase do get their much awaited HEA at the end and I loved it completely. Chris may never be completely invulnerable or “less needy” but he has Jase to completely smother him with love and also provide “Tough Love” when required so he will be ok as long as Jase is there to ground him.
This book was sad and fun at times but it also had loads of emotions that Chris had to go through to get complete closure on his mother’s life before UK.
I am hoping Ms. Jaye will give us another book in the series. Chris still has a long way to go to overcome his insecurities and learning his self-worth and I would love to read about his journey towards a more confident self. I won’t accept that this is the last book in the series. I demand more of Crispy Bacon and I think every other reader will too!!
A copy of this book was graciously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.
I liked the first book a lot, so I was rather disappointed with this one.
This book still follows Chris and Jase as main characters and starts just where Optical Illusion ended. The issue for me is that we already know a lot about both of them, and all things considered, we don't get to learn a lot more about them in book 2. So this book is NOT about character development.
In fact the whole book revolves around - miscommunication and trust issues between them (both of them saying it all in their inner monologues but never aloud) ... quite repetitive and terribly frustrating. - some so-called angst factors (who was responsible for Chris' accident ?) and new characters with their own agenda (the grand-mother and Stephanie), but all of this sorts of fizzles out at the end of the book ... just like that ... over
Yeah, disappointed.
But I would still love to read about Nate and Alex ... and Russell and Adam ... and get to know Kate and Matt's baby ... and see whether Chris actually wins the school race for Ryan ...
So I guess this means that although I did not see further character development in this second opus, I still am very much attached to all those we were introduced to in the first one !
The story start right after the incident that happen at the end of book one when Chris suffering from serious physical injuries from the mysterious hit and run that almost cost his life.
Things then get a bit more complicated when at the same time Chris’s rich grandmother from US came and want to take her only grandchild back to US with her.
What will happen then with Jase and Chris relationship when his bigot grandma who come from strict Catholic family seems won’t approved their relationship?
Will Chris leave Jase after he taste the luxuries his grandma trying to offer him?
I love how the author pulled us – the readers to the complexity of the story. I didn’t expected this second book to be as intense as the first one. From a homeless guy to a heir of the rich Italian family from US? Man! I really didn’t see it coming!
At this second book, both Jase and Chris still have to deal with almost the same struggles that happen on the previous story, like Chris’s trust issues. But what made the reading become so frustrating is….the overgrown miscommunication between Chris and Jase that nearly touch the annoying level and almost cost their already fragile relationship. But strangely…I can still understand why all those things happened between them even still….that not stop me from rolling my eyes so many times!
For those who have issues with cheating, considered I’ve warned you that there IS cheating here mainly caused by misunderstanding and also tricked by super manipulative antagonist characters in this book.
Like what I said on the previous book, the warning still continues, you still NEED a lot of patience to enjoying this book, because Chris Beacon still a hard and difficult character to understand, but that’s what makes the story very intriguing to follow.
One thing that kinda disappointed me a bit is how the author ‘executed’ Chris problem with his grandmother. I mean after all those tensions that build from the very beginning? I didn’t expect they ‘solved’ it just like that!
But overall, this second book still a bit dark and very intriguing just like the previous book.
And now, I really can’t wait for Nate and Alex's story because this Nate guy had stole my curiosity since the first time he appeared as a paramedic who took care Chris’s drugs withdrawal. His strong, passionate and mysterious appearance had grew curiosity in me.
Maybe if we’re lucky enough, we can get Russell and Adam's story in the future too eh? The bulky club owner and the blind dancer? Interesting....

This book starts off with Chris in the hospital after living through a hit and run. He's hurt and confused. Add to that, his long lost grandmother whom he's never met is there. To me, this had the makings of a perfect storm/drama, especially after the first book. And of course, because this was an Emma Jaye book, I was not disappointed.
I fell in love with Chris and Jase in the first book and my adoration with them, both as a couple and as separate entities, only increased. The majority of the story takes place in Chris's grandmother's mansion in Rhode Island, which for a yank like myself, was great. Everyone seems to have an agenda for a very battered up Chris as he's the sudden heir to the Baccoloni Auction house worth a fortune. They even try to convince him he's straight...
And even though there is a lot to keep us interested, it's really the hot/cold, on/off, relationship of Chris and Jase that kept me turning pages. I couldn't wait to see what came next with them and all I can say is that the ending had me smiling, sighing and thirsty for more.
Emma Jaye is one of my favorite writers and if you haven't picked up this series (or any of her other) do it! If you're a fan of witty, fun writing, steamy sex scenes (MM in this book) and rich, deep stories, then you'll be happy you did!
Another great book in this series. I’m so in love with this characters. There was a thing about the characters that I loved. Every one of them have this great ability to make me feel something. It didn’t matter if they were just a tiny secondary character, I had to love them or hate them. It was easier to see with the main characters, they had me one moment in love with them and the next one so mad at their behavior.
The plot was interesting. Unexpected, which I appreciate. One of the things I liked the most was Chris’s internal dialogue. How insecure he was, to the point it became painful to see him think certain way. There were a lot of times I just felt like hugging him.
Overall it was a great book. It had some slow moments but nothing that made me lost attention. I can’t wait to start the next in the series.
Didn't enjoy this as much as the first. It wasn't that put me off but the change around of Nonna and the lack of trust and lying by Jase at the end. 3.5 stars
What happens, when a boy, who never had anybody in his life to rely onto and no money to buy even a piece of bread suddenly gets everything he could wish for? Money, relatives, huge house with his own bed, helicopter and even a young and pretty “wife to be”. What else could a person wish for? But the fairytale about a Cinderella, in what almost everybody could find their “happily ever after” turned out to be a nightmare for Chris Bacon, who has no manners, no tolerance for hypocrisy and lies and actually already has a boyfriend. Confused, damaged and being in a constant need of love, he tried so hard to be the person he could probably never be - Chrisander Baccioni only because his newly found grandmother wishes that. But after seeing the true colors of everybody around him and that no brands could ever cover rotten hearts, he wishes no more but to get back to his small apartment, chip clothes and honest people who loved him for whom he really was. This book doesn’t have that edge as a first part. It is very different – sometimes sad, sometimes funny, but it gives you time to think about what really is important in life and if everything is really worth worshiping, when you don’t have the most important thing – the true love. I would highly recommend this series.
I fell in love harder with Chris in this book, the book starts where Chris wakes up in the hospital after being run over and in critical condition. We learn Chris has a Americans grandmother who is loaded and she wants to take Chris back to USA and Jase goes with him to take care of him. We met new characters in this book some I liked and some I hated like Stephanie who is a gold digger and only wants to use Chris. I really loved this book more than book 1. I can’t wait for read book 3 which will be based on Alex and Nate.
I enjoyed book 1 but absolutely fell in love with book 2. I appreciate Emma Jaye's ability to show how complicated a relationship can be and not provide a false sense of perfection. This book was a struggle of emotions reflecting the complexity of the story.
The character development is intense. I loved seeing the characters stay true to their personas and yet grow as well. Emma Jaye continued to pour that same amount of dedication into the secondary characters. This book really hits stride with world building. It made me feel as if I were right there with the characters.
Best of all that storyline had me hooked the entire time. There were moments I held my breath, moments I cried, and even moments I laughed. For a book to elicit such strong emotions makes it a must read. I love how the author did not minimize anything and often broke from tradition by really focusing on the realistic nature of relationships.
5 stars for a captivating, emotional and realistic journey! Highly recommend!
This is the second book in the series and it starts where the last one ended. I can’t say a lot about the plot because I don’t want to spoil the fun but I can say that it was unexpected and interesting and I really liked it. Chris was just as amazing as he was in the first book but my heart ached for him. He just can’t get a break. This book was really intense and to be honest some scenes were hard to read. The situation was just so unfair I wanted to yell. I was so mad on Chris’s behalf. Jase and Chris feel very real. They disagree and they don’t always understand each other perfectly but they have love and they try and they did better in this book. I loved seeing their relationship grow. They’re beautiful together. And I’m super excited for the third book!
amazing book. I'm loving this series so much. I so hope other people love this. it's a good series. hot and heavy but it is so good I couldn't put down the book. took me a bit to read but omg its so good I can't wait to see what book 3 has
Chris Bacon is dead. Long live Chrisander Baccioni? A free copy of this book was provided to me by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. If you read Optical Illusion, the first book in the paint series, you found yourself held tight by this story only to be dramatically dropped off the edge by a cliffhanger. I accepted the invitation to continue Jase and Chris’ journey and I was not disappointed. When we left this couple, Chris had become the victim of a hit and run attack. To quote the author: “Unable to walk or talk coherently after a hit and run attack, Chris finds himself on the other side of the world with Jase firmly in babysitting mode. Pity and betrayal, even if it was for ‘his own good’ wasn’t something Chris tolerated from anyone, least of all from an ex-lover who was hanging around only out of a misguided sense of duty.” Without giving away the story, it seems that actions taken by Jase in Optical Illusion led to the end of the search for her grandson, by Kathleen Baccioni, the wealthy matriarch of the Baccioni fortune. “The barely breathing battered boy was all Kathleen had to wipe away her daughter’s shame and continue the Baccioni dynasty. Despite Chrisander’s unfortunate childhood, her grandson was young enough to mold into a god-fearing family man. Surely only an idiot would reject a life of respect and luxury with a beautiful, intelligent woman by his side, for a grubby little flat and a dirt poor, ex-army sergeant.”
This installation of the paint series answers every question asked in Optical Illusion and then goes on to tell an intriguing tale of its own. It is well written. The characters in the subplots are well developed and the nature of the Baccioni lifestyle is described enough to provide substantive support of the story without being overwhelming. I must warn you there are occasions in this story which will stimulate strong emotions as you cannot help but become as enamored of young Chris as the fictional characters do. I found myself breathlessly putting the book down and reminding myself “It is only a fictional story”. There are no continuity issues as can often be found in a series and there is a refreshing challenge in the resolution of conflict. Things don’t just fall together, tied nicely with a magic bow. Issues are worked through as if this were a real-life accounting. Even as the story, unfortunately comes to its conclusive happy as can be expected, you know there is going to be more to tell down the line.
What I appreciated most about this story was the challenge to my imagination. I drew pictures in my mind as the descriptions were such as to make me feel like I was watching this story unfold as I read it. I greatly anticipate the release of Paint 3, which promises to explore another of the relationships whose development was alluded to as Jase brought Chris up to date on his friends and family. I highly recommend this book to everyone who read Optical Illusion and cried over that cliffhanger. I promise you the author will definitively dry your tears. For everyone else, Blank Canvas is written is such a way as you can read it in stand-alone mode, but, I don’t advise it. It would be akin to getting on the roller coaster after the initial twist, turns and drops. Still a good ride but only half the enjoyment.
I’m upside down again with this one. Although it picked right up where the first book left off, it felt a little choppy to me. Don’t really now how to explain it well. It was slightly fast forwarded but then goes back to explain more. And it really explains it which is great.
There were a lot of twists and turns which kept you on a total emotional roller coaster. I bloody despise nonna and her minions. Without giving it away I will say that the way her extreme views abruptly end still has me shaking my head and cursing.
I hope to find out more about that and as well really dig into more about Alex and Nate.
Blank Canvas begins right where book one left off, so there was no guesswork or no time at all wondering what happened. After Chris's accident, he wakes in the hospital to find that his mysterious grandmother from America has come to claim him.
Although she is rich and will pay for Chris to have all the best treatment as well as security in the States, Jase is skeptical about her motives. She makes it clear up front that having homosexual sex is a sin and that she intends to "help" her grandson. At this point things seem like they could get pretty scary, but Jase has no choice but to let the grandmother take him. However, no matter how little she thinks of Jase, he refuses to leave Chris's side. It's only when Jase lets down his guard that things get out of hand.
This book had me on the edge from the beginning. With all that Chris went through in the first book, I couldn't imagine him being thrown into one of those religious "rehabilitation" places. I was really scared for him, but I was happy how things turned out. I also loved seeing the contrast and the almost clash between two cultures when the couple has to leave England for the States. Though there were some dark parts in this book and some near misses, I was in tears in the end and overjoyed with how perfect things wrapped up. This series was a fantastic adventure and I loved every moment. I recommend this book to anyone who loves m/m romance with dark themes.
There was no character development for Chris. I understand that he was young and he went thru so much but since he was portrayed as the most resilient young man ever known to mankind his constant screw ups were getting too much for my understanding. I can deal with cheating if there is genuine regret but there wasn t much of that here. Bc of his condition everything was forgiven in the blinc of an eye bc poor Chris was permanently vulnerable. The whole scene with Daniel and Jase was ridiculous. On one hand you have Jase forgiving the cheating bc Chris was vulnerable at that moment and on the other hand Daniel was explaining it as "he was too hot I couldn t help mysef!" WTF kind of bf was Jase not to put Daniel in a hospital for such an excuse?! I would have kicked his ass! The whole thing was treated like nothing just a small missunderstanding which annoyed me so much. Book 2 was repetitive, got boring in parts and dragged then everything was resolved in 5 pages. Nate/Alex and Russel/Adam sound like such interesting couples on paper but I really don t know if I should spend any more money on an author whose idea of romance is cheating at the first hurdle and a MC who finds all dicks attractive and basically only stays loyal if his bf puts out all the time. I understood Chris in bk 1 but to have the same Chris in bk 2 with no development was too much.

4.7 stars. Blank Canvas carries straight on from Optical Illusion. We find Chris Bacon lying in a hospital bed after a hit and run, surrounded by his family and his boyfriend Jase. But when Chris's grandmother from the States turns up, that is when the fun begins.
It turns out that the Baccioni family (Chris's mother's family) are absolutely loaded, and Chris is the next in line to pick up the family business.
The grandmother insists that Chris does his recovering in the States, and with Jase in tow, they head off to do just that. This where Chris and Jase's relationship is tested. There a couple of incidents that put a strain on their partnership, and when Jase has to go back to England to tend to a sick relative, that's when the relationship is really stretched. So many temptations are there, plus the fact that his grandmother is trying to turn him into a god loving christian, doesn't help matters.
The characters are well written, some of them likable, some of them...not so! Stepanie, a bit of a gold digger, tries everything she can to manipulate Chris, and has a good time winding up Jase in the process...prize b***h. Phelps, the gopher, tries to get inside Chris's pants. more than once and lies to do so on one occasion....bit of an a***hole.
But everything ends well, as Chris and Jase make it. I can't wait to see what happens next....roll on book 3.
Well, I've never been into M/M before but I read Optical Illusion (part one of the Paint Series) and I'm hooked on Chris! God, I love that guy so much that I want to hit/attack/kill anyone who'd cause him harm. I think my infatuation is the author's way of lashing the characters out; she does it in a brilliant fast pace yet slow burner--an oxymoron I know, but if you read it, you'll get it--and you really get to know them as you go along. They're like real people to me now; I often find myself thinking about Chris. No information dumping, which is what makes a good novel and good characters, Emma lets you slowly get to know Jase and Chris and everyone else as you would in the real world. Chris is so negative about himself and doesn't see how wonderful and luring a person he is, which is his appeal, as no one truly loves arrogance. I've just read Blank Canvas, and I love it, just like I did Optical Illusion. I'm going to read it again in a few days because it really gets under your skin because it is dark in places, then I'll post my full review.
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book. I didn't want any more crazy drama because I got more than enough of that in the last book. On the other hand, I was going to be very disappointed with a sweet and fluffy sequel.
I was relieved that it was something in between. There was drama and unfortunately it's my most hated type of drama, lack of communication. The only saving grace was that most of it was out of their control. Though they didn't do much to help themselves out.
It was also very sweet in that this book leaves Chris and Jase in a good place. I had to love that part.
I really hope there is another book coming out because I need to know what's going on with Nate and Alex.
Blank Canvas, the second book in the Paint Series, by Emma Jaye, picks up where Book 1, Optical Illusion, leaves off.
Chris is now injured, lost and confused, when his long lost grandmother shows up to care for him. Mrs Baccioni certainly has strong opinions, and is against Chris being in a homosexual relationship.
Mrs Baccioni doesn't know anything about Chris, and plans on making him the heir to the Baccioni fortune. Chris and Jase don't trust her, as she is trying to turn Chris into a good religious boy who will marry a good religious girl and take over the business.
When she takes him to her home, things get real crazy. In addition to dealing with the crazy grandmother, they also have tough physical therapy, a family friend who will do anything to break up Chris and Jase, the mystery of why Chris's mom left her home, sexual advances from an employee and more. Worst of all, Chris starts to believe that Jase isn't attracted to this new, scarred version of him.
Chris is an amazing character. He tends to bounce back from every bad thing that happens to him and he is completely upfront with people. As Jase says, '"Chris is never anything but real. He says what he thinks and thinks what he says."'
The drug issue is big again, as Chris is again faced with drugs being forced upon him. He resents this, doesn't want to end up like his mother, and again sees the appeal of letting the drugs take away his problems. This part is well handled, with care and sensitivity.
Blank Canvas is extremely well written, well developed, and will keep you reading late into the night. As much as I liked Book 1, Optical Illusions, I absolutely love this book and am thrilled to have discovered these little gems by Emma Jaye.
So this story starts following a nasty accident in part one........ which leaves Chris Bacon dead and to start of his life as Chrisander Baccioni.
Poor Chris, not only does he wake up physically and emotionally damaged, but he also has to contend with his overbearing grandmother, who isn't listening to him, his love Jace or his family. Shes looked for him for years and is determined he will return to her home, "his home" in the US and become her grandson.
This leads to hell for Chris. Not due to the pain of his recovery, but also to inner-turmoil as she's a Catholic and is against any relationship not viewed by God as "normal".
How can this love between his rock Jace and him continue now that he's Chrissander, a wealthy young man who is being pulled from pillar to post by the family who is supposed to love and support him?
I will be honest as say there were some scenes which made me uncomfortable and stayed with me. These mainly involved a manipulative man who was supposed to look after Chris when he was vulnerable. However, he abused this trust by sexually and physically confusing Chris.
This is a totally intriguing, frustrating (mainly due to Chris being "Chris"). Loved getting to know Jace, Nate, Adam (sweet Adam!), Ryan (lol) and the softer side of Russell.
I'm unsure where the next book (part three) will lead.....will it restart with his grandmother who appeared to become less dominant and overbearing throughout the book? who knows....although I for one, am looking forward to the next ride!
I was giving this book by the author and this is my honest opinion. Was this book perfect, no but the author just has a way to write imploring imperfect characters that really endear themselves to us as readers. I just loved reading Chris and Jases continuing relationship the good and all the woes that will always be in their relationship with Chris. Trouble just seems to follow him but with the love of Jase and his family there will always be a happy Ever after and that's what we got. So this book carries on from the last one, where we were left on tenterhooks when Chris was hit by a car, this book is about his recovery and of course his emerging new family from America that just come out of the woodwork. I liked that we seen more of Chris past and why it came to be that his mother fled from her home. This is a journey of Chris toeing the line to be what his new family wants him to be whilst still battling his insecurities about his relationship with Jase and his feelings of not being worthy whilst still staying true to who he actually is in all his energetic impulsive tendencies. I liked how the author portrayed this part and how it ended with both parties happy. The thing I would of liked more is a bit more reaction on some of the scenarios but all in all I really enjoyed this book. The humour again was top notch but we also got some real emotional aspect with it. I really want another book with these characters maybe a follow on with maybe them being guardians (im not saying no more as it will spoil but those who've read it will know what I mean😀)
PLEASE READ FIRST MY RATING SYSTEM!!! To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit. 5* is now 5,5* and my old 3* is now a 4*):
5,5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like 'Liberty' from Seth King, 'Save the kids' series from EM Leya or 'Jesse's Smile' from Angelique Jurd), it's like an A+ 5* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books), it's like an A 4,5* - it's the place between I really like it and I love it, it's like an A- 4* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an A-B 3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, but not really an often reread book 2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartly, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D 1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, unlogical, NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
It's really a Wow-book! I couldn't stop to read it... and then... it was like the first book FINISH.... F.I.N.I.S.H!! I want direct to start the next book. I couldn't stop to read. But after reading the first and the second book in 8 hours over night, my eyes were read and tired, my arms heavy from holding my fire-tablet, my body screamed for sleep, so I had to stop reading. So I dreamed about the book.
It's absolutely recommended by me. It's a 4.5 book
My advice: Don't start, if you haven't minimum 12 hours time for reading all books. Because you can't stop.
They say that if the author manages to get a reaction out of the reader, the book is a success. And it certainly did make me react. It made me angry and frustrated with moments of humour. Where I had hoped this book would be about strengthening the relationship between Jase and Chris, it's the opposite.
It was the plot of a soap opera, disapproving grandmother and calculating family friend and it's a plot that tend to work and gives the angst I like. But
Jase's reactions was somewhat confusing at times and I wish they had more intimate moments together. I wanted more fight, more passion.
It's a page turner and I couldn't put the book down, but I'm still not sure what I thought about it fully.
At the end of Optical Illusion, Chris was almost killed in a hit and run. His American grandmother showed up and insisted that he be taken back to the States for treatment - and to learn how to behave as the wealthy heir he was meant to be. Jase was going, too, since he wasn't letting Chris out of his sight. I have to say, there were quite a few Americans in this book that I didn't like at all. It seemed that everyone wanted to manipulate Chris, and they didn't care about Chris's opinions or wants. Jase had to leave when he had a family emergency, and that led to things falling apart for Chris. The time period when Chris was stressed and pliant was hard for me to read about. Thankfully, as his healing progressed, the real Chris came out again, and his antics made me happy. I love Chris and Jase, and I hope this series goes on for several more books so I can keep spending time with them.
I loved reading more of Chris and Jase. After the ending of book1 left me all kinds nervous and excited. I really wanted to see how these two would end up.
Straight away I was sucked back into their lives, my heart still kinda hurt for Chris his new family wants him to be something he's not, trying to change him to suit their needs. After being alone for so long he finally gets what he always wanted but a what cost.
I loved Jase in this book even more he accepts and loves Chris for who he is and doesn't want him to change for anyone. These two have made an impact on me and I just loved them together.
I'm excited to more about read Nate and Alex in the next book
