The Underworld or a Hidden World that has come alive with drugs, alcohol and a Rave! One click this hidden jewel to see!

WOW! Ya know what? I would never have found this little gem of a book if not for Book Review 22, Thank you so much for allowing me to read this fantastic story for a Review, so well worth me free time!

So I am way older, but back in my day we did have acid floating around, yes I did trip on Acid but never would have even thought of doing the amount that was taken by high school kids the day before graduation. Heck I think I would have thought it would have killed me since I prayed to God to get me off of it and I promised to never ever do it again! Never did either!

Ok how to tell you about this book, because you have the blurb to read, but what to say to get you to read it! Well because it is Wild, Thrilling, Dark and Crazy, Guns, Fighting, Racism and Sex of all kinds and even questions of sexuality! If you like that type of book, one that will keep you turning page after page till its over then, yes this is THAT book! I mean I totally haven't been so shocked by a such a book, its shockingly new to me, not a thing about it that I've seen and its like hidden and nobody knows and I want to YELL READ THIS BOOK NOW! And the reason because its so REAL, the Feels OMG the things I felt, confused at the first at the game but as it went on I understood exactly why we needed to understand the game and the Dynamic of these characters...these characters were wonderfully written, they have suffered and lost, every last one and they are all kids, just kids! But this book shows you that in maybe a poorer neighborhood that most might not be accustomed to. That this life it is exactly like it is and that these type losses and things hidden in the mind, the tricks the mind plays over the years because these kids just have each other, a little gang that really is no gang at all, its separate families and they have a lot of guilt and jealousy and it has grown into a big old monster and regardless of were it is poor or not it happens! And I wanted to yell were are the parents? Well they mostly died and they were left with one and the one the were left with did good or didn't. Ya see these kids all but 3 are going to all go away to college, they are going to get out of this town but not all of them, two are to young still in school (2 of the Billy's) and one was probably smart enough but he had to put on a persona of Hate and he had to be head of his family and to teach the two boys that are younger than him, like daddy would if he could but daddy is In jail....and daddy o, he should have stayed but he is getting out in 6 days and that, that brings in some things they have forgotten or maybe haven't forgotten but have hidden and one, well he just cant forget, he just want to leave before dad comes home, he is tired of telling the other boys the stories about dad and how he is to protect these boys but to never touch them just teach them, nope he cannot forget! Now he "Buddy" doesn't trip on Acid, I do give him that but he is one mean kid but not to his two brothers and kind of just nonchalant to his one sister Gilly. And they have lived across the street from Hero and Fred, brothers, twins but not, they look nothing alike, Hero is slanky and cant fight, dark skin, but Fred has grown into a fine young man and he can fight , he protects Hero in all things, they are true brothers whom have grown to love Gilly. Could this be another problem? Fred wants to tell her he loves her before they graduate and all go off to different colleges, he wants her to know what he has been afraid to tell her, afraid of rejection, because even though they have made it to graduation they have all had rejection and death and to a kid is it the same? They have been left on the wrong side of town all those years but its almost over. So everyone always go to Graduation Rave, so of course they have to go, it tradition. Hero whom is valdectorion needs to write his speech but Buddy beat him up today after the War Game, then Fred beat up Buddy! Hero wants to teach them all a lesson a lesson his dad taught him a very long time ago when he was a police officer and carried a gun, Hero decides he will take this gun and show everyone he is not afraid, that he is a Hero!

So I am not going to tell you anymore other than that, you need to see how it turns out for Hero, Fred, "Gilly, Buddy, Junk, Mil Billy" (all Billy's, that's this family last name) and Cindy, Mark and Tubby. How this journey of 24 hours will change them forever some ugly truths are brought forth and some things that were thought as truths unhinged!

The writer keeps your riveted to the story, even as a Dark YA I just could not stop reading! The feels oh the feels you will have with this book, it starts of a little slow but don't give up because the mystery just keeps digging at you and you just want to know what happens and what all had happened! Some things I still feel torn over and have the need to go back and see what or if anything was missed it just floored me, the end and how whom stood up for who, is it always family or is it the people you have learned to rely on in life or could be all of that? Read and find out this tale of coming of age!

It does touch on some dark touchy subjects and it has sexual scenes so if you do not care to read that, this isn't the book for you! If you cant bear to here things that have happened in the past to kids or it might cause triggers here is your warning

Thanks for another Great recommendation Boor Review 22, I don't think I would have ever found this book without your referral and I thank you for that! Go on a learning excursion with these teens, its one of the best rides I have been on with teens a very long time, I felt a part of the scene like I watched it unfold!

I guess I knew it was going to be some crazy things happen, kids going to a Rave with drugs and a gun, what I didn't figure was that I would be so touched by what all happens and what has happened to all these kids in the past. I felt like I had been flipping the tv channels and just happened to find this movie that had started and I stopped and watched and was stunned like why had I never seen this before, because it surely is a story! I have never read this author before, I was riveted, overwhelmed and at the end glad it was all out and that life would go forward but in such a different way, but that is life right?

Sex, Drugs, and a Loaded Gun, the title says it all. In less than a 24 hour period from graduation eve, Hero Banner, the class valedictorian goes from playing a final game of manhunt with his brother Fred and their friends to facing death.

Everyone calls Hero a faggot, even his own brother. During the game of manhunt he pretends to tag one of the "Billy's" to keep the love of his dreams Gilly Jung from losing the game just once. He has to endure taunts of cocksucker from the Billy he didn't really tag, who yells at him to stop touching his ass.

Hero is ready to get revenge and prove to everyone who taunts him. so instead of writing his speech for graduation, he goes to the annual senior barn rave. He brings his father's service revolver with him. He is going to make everyone see he is a man.

The whole thing falls apart when he takes the 6 tabs of acid his brother bought for him. He is sexually assaulted by Billy, He loses his bag with the gun when he is thrown in the beer muddied mosh pit, where Billy strips him and tells him to suck his dick and rubs his crotch in Hero's face. He gets a hold of his gun for a short time and the rave is raided by the cops. The 11 year old Billy Jung runs off with the gun as the entire rave runs for all the exits.

Everyone ends up at Hero's old house on the hill and degradation, truths, verbal fights, physical fights, and murder by gun occur.

This book is for a mature young adult, or adult, due to the material written about.

Coming of age story for a set of high school seniors set in Pennsylvania. Most action takes place the night prior to graduation, with flashbacks filling in the backstory. Teenage angst gets a lot of play, as does peer pressure. Bullying is a particularly strong theme, with physical violence getting quite graphic. Drugs, alcohol, and a gun contribute to the dark pallette.

This story shows the difficulty of teen age, covering race, orientation and peer pressure regarding sex. Written from Hero's focus, it's a gripping look at life in suburban USA ten plus years ago. A worthwhile read that should make you think.

I didn't like this book, but not because it was bad. It is actually very well written, I kept turning the pages to see what happened next, and there were some twists that were really surprising and meaningful at the same time.
However, some scenes were quite disturbing, and I was shocked at how far the author had gone. There were some shocking sexual bits and also a lot of violence and gore. These made me increasingly uncomfortable, which I'm sure was intentional, still. Looking back, I'm surprised I even finished this book.

Well, this is another way to look at the world through someone else eyes. This book gives minute details of some of the darker aspects that some individuals face on a day to day bases. It makes an individual learn to be grateful for the home they have or better yet the food that is abundantly available. This book should awaken the empathy that we have for one another and learn to never judge a book by is cover.

It's different. Some great characters and some interesting aspects to the story. It took me a while to get into as we join them 'mid-game'. The characters seemed to behave younger than their given ages which I found confusing. Worth a read if you enjoy stories about disaffected youth and drugs. Some interesting side stories that may have offered more context. Interesting dynamics between Hero & Fred in particular.
