Please note - I feel the title of this book is a bit misleading. I almost didn’t mark it “to be read” solely because of it. If you think you’re gonna get some kind of bdsm, kinky story, you’re gonna be disappointed. And the MC as some empowered bottom? That isn’t or doesn’t happen either. What you will get instead, is an underdog kind of guy finding his worth with the helpful hand that only love can provide. I know, total schmaltzy sentiment right there, but it is what it is.

Poor Adrian has recently been given some horribly harsh “truths” by an ungrateful boyfriend. They break up and in order to rectify some semblance of pride, he finds himself back at a bar where a gorgeous hot biker had surprisingly hit on him. What ensues is some really nicely done smex as Adrian gets his groove back. Well… as much as an adorkable accountant with lots of self esteem issues can in a few short weeks.

Wyatt has a secretive past and is mostly always on the run. Of course, this prevents him from settling down anywhere for long. However, he can’t resist what Adrian’s offering, and instead of leaving it as a one night stand, Wyatt becomes addicted to the tenderhearted, caring guy who lets his inhibitions go. Mmmm hmmm.

The first half of this book was the evolution of Adrian and Wyatt’s relationship which I enjoyed immensely, and then it changes tone and direction where the romance takes a back seat a bit. It seems Wyatt’s past possibly catches up to him, while at the same time, Adrian finds himself possibly embroiled in illegal actions at his job. A perfect storm commences and things go haywire and life suddenly gets convoluted and scary. I admit I’m still a little vague on the details, but things are magically resolved, and love prevails with a well deserved happy ending.

So... expect wholly likeable characters. Adrian was easily relatable, simply wanting someone to equally care for him back. Wyatt was one confident, sexy beast who was kind and genuine. This was a sweet and smexy contemporary romance with a little cat and mouse suspense, made all the better by the excellent narration by Nick J. Russo. Overall, simply a satisfying read/listen!

Nick J. Russo does not disappoint!

Power Bottom? has enjoyable narration with great character voices and spot-on pacing. I have yet to find an audiobook narrated by Russo that wasn’t a treat to listen to.

Told from both Adrian and Wyatt's POV the story centers around their relationship, Adrian's job and life issues, and the mystery surrounding Wyatt.

I enjoyed it.

I thought the pacing was great. The story opens with Adrien trying to bring a spark back to his relationship and pretty much failing. Adrian's feelings are realistic...there's a moment when Adrian's boyfriend is drunk and brutally honest and...damn, but it was emotionally merciless.

damn

What follows is Adrian going outside his comfort zone in order to prove, if even to himself, that what the ex said was, well, maybe not wrong, but that he could be different.

Adrian gets together with Wyatt and it's wonderful, but Wyatt is only able to commit to one weekend every couple of weeks for hot sex. Adrian agrees and they quickly come together (pun not intended) many times. But Wyatt's past is always lurking and, after fifteen years of being on the run, he's not prepared for the feelings he has for Adrian or what he needs to do about it.

worry

But when Adrian needs him, Wyatt steps up to the plate, and knocks a home run. They were sweet together and I was very happy with their HEA.

The story may require a little insta-love suspension of reality, but it is an entertaining romance with some mystery, a little light angst, lots of hot pound-you-into-the-mattress sex, and a sweet HEA.

kiss

Liked this one. The mystery was lame but I really liked Wyatt and Adrian together. I love when the geek gets his guy. Adrian truly deserved his HEA after his nippledick ex. Good riddance to that fucker.

Warning: This review is NSFW and May be Offensive - Be warned

This story starts out with two men, Adrian and his boyfriend, broken down stranded in the mountains near a roadside bar that doesn’t look too friendly. Adrian figures he is about to enter biker heaven and may never be seen again. Little do they know they are by Deer Park – a gay bar deep in the mountains of Maryland? It couldn’t be, could it? It is. After Adrian goes inside to use the phone he finds himself being hit on by a drop dead gorgeous man and thinks it must just be a fluke because men like that were not interested in plain men like Adrian. Either way Adrian has a boyfriend – so he leaves with a little pep in his step.
Not too long after, Adrian comes home to his boyfriend and wouldn’t you now the lying creep is getting busy on Adrian’s couch! So, Adrian who thought him and his boyfriend were a good, solid couple – after all he helped him pay off his bills, helped him save money and let him live with him rent free while he pursued his dreams, Adrian was doing all he could to help the man he loved. When he asks him the dreaded question of, Why? He is told simply – “you are boring. You lack passion and creativity – you are the type of boyfriend one has until they find the one they will spend their life with.”

x1eb5

Can I just say I wanted to jump into the book and kick the ever loving hell out of this man - whom I won’t even name, he doesn’t deserve to be named. The only good thing that happened out of this entire relationship between Adrian and he who shall not be named is the break up. That break up forced Adrian to make some changes – and guess where he went? That’s right – back to Deer Park to see his Hottie!

Wyatt, he is a huge mystery much of the book. He is guarded. We know he is hiding a lot but we don’t know why and the glimpses the author does show us are severely limited. I almost had to skip ahead, I know, I know – but it was driving me nuts trying to figure out what his deal was – and then it was revealed! So don’t give up, Wyatt’s secrets are slowly – almost too slowly – revealed to you.

bored

So I liked this story – it wasn’t one that I felt the need to tell everyone about but it was a good solid read. I think my main issue with this story was the plot went all over the place – like I wasn’t sure if I was reading a romance, a thriller, a mafia book, a BDSM book, or what – there are secret places, people hiding, it’s really crazy at times and I almost felt like the author didn’t know which plot he wanted to stick with. When there are books that have so many plot twists it’s really easy to leave something flapping in the wind or to lose a reader and like I said I almost gave up and skipped ahead because I wanted to know and the mystery wasn’t cutting it for me.

hot-sex-kissing
The sex – it’s hot. It’s really hot. If that is all you look for in a book is some hot as hell sex – well this book will have you taken care of, because yes Adrian definitely finds out after years of being gay that he is a Power Bottom. So overall, I recommend this book as a solid story that you need to have patience with – the story does get there – and I think the author could definitely continue on with these characters because the ending was abrupt.

I really enjoyed this, which surprised me a bit because that title. Really?

But ignore the title and you'll get a sweet, kind of silly, kind of funny and kind of actiony story about 2 adorable MC's and dual POV!!

I love dual POV!!

I really liked Adrian, I could relate to him a lot at the start but unfortunately his constant questioning of himself started to annoy me near the end. I get that he took a blow at the start (his ex is basically a total douchecanoe) but Wyatt could not have been clearer about how attractive he found him and to be honest I'd get well fed up with having to reassure someone ALL THE TIME especially after fabulous nookie. But Wyatt is pretty damn awesome so he doesn't seem to mind much.

I liked the little mystery and action element that was thrown in here as well. Just made it a bit more fun for me and even though it was utterly ridiculous it kept me totally entertained. I would've liked a bit more closure on some things but overall it was good.

For me this was just perfect escapism, which I need right now, fun and well written with a few steamy moments and a bit of action. What more can you ask for?

BR with Tara and Marte

What really stood out in this book was Adrian. He was awkward, clumsy, and just adorable all around. His inner dialogue was hilarious.

Adrian and his boyfriend are stranded out in the middle of nowhere. They walk to a bar to try to call a tow truck since they have no cellphone reception. Of course Adrian is a bit hesitant to enter the bar.

But at least his outfit was better than the orange skinny jeans, white boat shoes, and tight orange-and-pink-plaid short-sleeve button-down Martin had on under his white nylon jacket. In this neck of the woods, Martin might as well have a flashing neon sign above his head—“Homosexual here! For beatings, line up to the left!”

It turns out he has nothing to worry about because it is a leather bar with all kinds of hot gay men. He even gets hit on. Him, the invisible one.

They are finally able to make it home, but it’s not long before Adrian and Martin get into a fight. Martin is pulling no punches. Besides telling Adrian he is boring as hell, he also tells him he sucks in bed.

“You can’t tell me you’re that oblivious. If you want to lie to yourself, that’s fine, but don’t lie to me. You know the sex sucks.”

Since Adrian has nothing to lose after Martin moved out, he goes back to the leather bar to find the gorgeous tattooed man who hit on him a few days back.

When he arrives there he is thrilled to see the man is indeed there. Wyatt has no trouble at all whisking Adrian out of there for a night of hot man on man sex, so they end up in a motel.

Of course Adrian is still Adrian.

Adrian tripped on his own feet, knocking his knee into the inside of Wyatt’s, and then Wyatt bonking his head on the door when he lost his balance and fell against it.

But they end up having hot smoking sex in bed after all, and Wyatt tells Adrian that Martin was definitely wrong, he is not a lousy lay.

Adrian really doesn’t want to say goodbye the next morning, so they agree to see each other again in that same motel two weeks from then.

A hot and heavy relationship ensues where they meet every week at the motel. It would have been perfect if not for Wyatt saying he can’t do a real relationship at the moment.

Wyatt and Adrian grow closer even though they’re supposed to have an agreement, but everything falls apart when Wyatt tells Adrian he can’t see him anymore because of Adrian’s safety…

I really liked the first 30%, Adrian was awkward, adorable and funny. But somewhere along the way the atmosphere changed. Adrian became a little less funny, and the relationship could have used some more emotional development.

Still, I really liked it and would recommend this if you like a low-angst first half, and an action-packed second half (no real relationship angst to speak of overall).

I quite like Rowan McAllister’s books – but this one was not my favorite of hers. The initial set-up was good. Adrian’s break-up was harsh. The words that Martin said to Adrian made my jaw drop. Boy … that was brutal! In a sense, we share same traits, Adrian and I. I am introvert as well. I prefer the comfort of my room and read rather than going out. I can totally spend 24 hours inside my house on weekends, doing nothing but reading, watching TV, or browsing the Internet. So I feel him!!

I wanted to see Adrian happy – I was intrigued by what this biker/tattooed guy could offer and how he could make Adrian happy. Unfortunately, what happened next was not what I could enjoy. I am never a fan of ‘educate the other person about the joy of sex’ trope. With Adrian and Wyatt making an arrangement of one-offs on weekends, they seemed to be focusing on sex, on making Adrian felt better with sexual intercourse, teaching him what he could get… rather than getting to know one another.

Well, it was BORING for me. Probably it has to do with my asexuality, but I am rarely charmed with sex alone when I don’t feel like I get enough story, romance or characterization. I got to the point where I skimmed those scenes because I truly didn’t care about it.

Also, because there was lack of Wyatt’s POV in this book, I was rather baffled with what Wyatt saw in Adrian. Sure, sure, he explained that Adrian was sexy, so he was drawn to him. But I guess I wanted more than that, especially since Adrien didn’t seem the type of guy that people easily got attached to because of his personality.

In addition to that, the whole running-away situation that Wyatt had been going through for the past 15 years didn’t seem to fully materialize on page. Fifteen years is quite a long time, so I kept thinking whether it was truly that dangerous or was it just exaggeration on Wyatt’s part; a reason for him to never fully commit to anything.

There was another ‘mystery’ that happened with Adrian’s work-place. That seemed to be more solid than Wyatt’s. I kind of liked that part, even if I was also asking myself whether Adrian and his friend, Bev, were that naïve about everything. I would be very SUSPICIOUS if my boss started asking me what their boss was doing to them.

So some parts were enjoyable, some parts were not. I have definitely read better from McAllister, that’s for sure.

Take one adorable geek accountant add in one douchebag boyfriend...

and you get one crappy relationship...but on the upside...it didn't last long.

Adrian's a nice guy. He's got a good job, he's responsible, dependable, faithful and he just wants a relationship with someone he can love and spend time with and who maybe feels the same about him...sadly...he got Martin.

Martin is a jerk, he's a user and a player. He's every decent person's nightmare. Ok, in case you're wondering. I didn't like Martin...not even a little bit. Seriously in what world do you tell someone they're a good boyfriend but they're boring, cheap and lousy in bed? Really, WTF! and then he has the nerve to act like he was doing Adrian a favor because he hadn't cheated on him yet? Apparently bj's don't count as cheating...in Martin's world. Thankfully Adrian kicked his sorry backside to the curb and that was basically the end of Martin. Now we get to move on to the good part...

Adrian and Wyatt. Wyatt's hot, seriously magazine cover hot and if he had a boyfriend like Adrian there's no way he'd let them walk into a leather bar by themselves...how do we know this well, Wyatt told Adrian that when he went into said leather bar to use the phone to call for a tow truck when his car broke down. Of course Wyatt told Adrian this right after he tried to pick Adrian up at said leather bar and Adrian politely turned him down because 'he has a boyfriend.' Please, Adrian that wasn't a boyfriend that was an Albatross and thank heavens you got rid of him. Now off you go back to that bar in search of Wyatt...that's a good boy.

And that is how things started between Adrian and Wyatt. One simple comment between strangers and a few weeks later those strangers are meeting in a hotel room and yes there's sex...hot, steamy, sex but there's also talking and getting to know one another...until there isn't. Wyatt has things in his past that he's not willing to share and unfortunately he begins to thing that his past is still chasing him and he needs to move on to keep the people he cares about from getting hurt. Sadly Adrian's life is starting to go sideways as well and pretty soon no one really knows who's after who, but Wyatt starts to realize that he's not ready to walk away from the first person he's found in years that he wants to be with, who seems to care about him as much as he cares about them.

Wyatt and Adrian's relationship plays out against a background of mystery and mobsters, FBI agents and embezzlement and a lot of general confusion about who's really after who.

I loved Wyatt and Adrian together. Wyatt was kind and good hearted. Everything that Adrian deserved and Adrian well he was the same. He was everything that Wyatt deserved and if the local FBI could just get their act together these two men might live long enough to do the same as soon as they face up to the fact that what started out as a weekend fling is turning into feelings that lasted all week long.

While I enjoyed this story from start to finish especially the romance and I'm normally a fan of good strong mysteries. However, in this case I was totally good with the mystery part of this story really just being a back drop to Wyatt and Adrian's romance. What I really, really loved was the ending. It was all that and a bag of potato chips...so there take that Martin.

Nick J. Russo was the narrator for this audio book and I'm not sure what more I can say about him but as always he delivered. I love listening to audio books narrated by Mr. Russo and honestly I don't even bother listening to the the sample I know I'm going to enjoy it if he's the narrator. Now I just check and make sure that I'm going to like the author's story and in the case of 'Power Bottom' it was already on my TBR list, so this was a done deal in my world.

“Not everything is what it seems” and “what you want is not always what you need” could be the two mottos of this novel. It is an adventure and a mystery as much as a character study and a journey of two men who end up in very different places from where they expected. It is deceptively slow to start, but that time is used to set the scene for what follows – and that was well worth the wait.

Adrian is a pretty ordinary guy, but the events that follow his first visit in the improbable gay bar in the middle of the Maryland mountains are so far from “normal” it is scary. Adrian goes from what he thought was a great relationship to a nasty breakup when his lover cheats on him. His self-confidence is so shaken that it takes him quite a while to recover. And when he does, thanks to Wyatt’s help, he begins to notice that Wyatt is very weird in his own way. The evidence keeps piling up and by the time both the mob and the FBI want to talk to Adrian, he is up-to-his-neck in trouble.

Wyatt is a mystery for most of the book, and that works well for keeping up the suspense. It was evident to me that he was running from something, but the author only very slowly revealed what that might be. It means I can’t say more without mentioning a spoiler or two, so I will leave it at the comment that I think it was masterfully done.

Both Adrian and Wyatt fascinated me because they change a lot as the story unfolds. Adrian behaves in a certain way mostly because of what others expect of him (or what he thinks they expect), and he has to learn to see himself as he really is and that admitting what he wants and needs is by no means a weakness. Wyatt is running from himself – he is not ready to deal with who he knows he could be, until he learns to deal with his past and face the facts.

If you like stories that start very slowly and lull you into believing it’s safe to relax before turning into thriller territory, if you want to see two men who are both trying to define who they are and what they want figuring things out together, and if you’re looking for a read that is as mysterious and full of secrets as it is suspenseful and hot, then you will probably like this novel.

2.5 stars The story was a hodgepodge and all over the place. It could be titled "The Adventures of Boring Accountant Adrian". Poor guy was so insecure and clueless that he was unlikeable. His new boyfriend Wyatt wasn't as fully developed. It felt as though he was just a vehicle for Adrian to rework his self identity.

It's not that this was a bad book, it just never held my attention. It could be that it had been a long week, so for people interested in this book I will say; read it, 'cause it was fun!

So Adrian is an accountant and a proper fellow. After a picnic in the mountains with his then-BF, he stumbles into a gay-friendly biker bar to borrow a phone. Here he 'meets' Wyatt, who comments on his capabilities as a possible 'Power Bottom'.
This makes Adrian think/consider his life, and after his relationship with Martin IMPLODES (seriously Martin, should not be allowed in polite society) Adrian decides he needs to find out if the things Wyatt made him feel (in the short encounter) could possibly be real.
He trots of to the mountains, and luckily Wyatt is there.
description

Wyatt is a man on the run; what he is running from is not made clear from the beginning. But he is from the area where the bar is, he has his pseudo-dad, who wants him to stop running, and step up, and he has some interesting surprises.

The first time these two hook-up I was cringing like all get-out, and I felt so bad for Adrian, but I was laughing my ass of at the same time.
This dude wants so bad to be sexy and interesting, but ends up being all over the place (the worst part is, that Adrian already IS sexy and interesting, he doesn't need to change anything -IMO) Wyatt is just cool as a cucumber! These two start a tentitative weekly hook-up at a motel, and Wyatt keeps pushing his leaving (aka. running)-date and Adrian keeps making their hook-up more and more elaborate (the trip to the grocery-store that ended up in candles and napkins... LOL).

Of course the smooching cannot continue undisturbed. Wyatt is worried his past has caught up with him, and Adrian is worried that something is going on at his work.
And dammit; why could Wyatt not give a proper apology for standing Adrian up? That pissed me off.
The rest of the book is this mish-mash of 'evil' characters, the mafia, smexy times and hardcore ex-military dudes with awesome dogs.

I can't really put my finger on the issues I had with this book, but it could be that the book didn't know what it wanted to be, and when we get to the 'mystery' part of the book, we were past the 50% mark (the beginning of the mystery WAS spread out through the book, but the meaty part didn't show up until then), so it seemed quite... 'rushed'.
I was entertained, yes, I liked Adrian, yes, but the rest was *so-so*.

DNF @ 45%. This started off great. Wyatt and Adrian seemed liked interesting characters, but everything just seemed so long and drawn out, even the sex scenes. I was so excited because Wyatt was this tattooed biker and Adrian was this geeky accountant, but Adrian's insecurities were a real downer and I couldn't really get a handle on Wyatt. By the time I hit 45% I was already skimming, and finally just admitted that I didn't care. I was already bored. Promising beginning, but started to drag early.

Audiobook review

Story: 2 stars
Narration 4 stars

Power Bottom? was yet another example of my pre-judgement of a book. I’ve skipped over this title so many times, thinking it was more erotica than anything else. It wasn’t, I would say it falls perfectly into the contemporary mm romance category, with an addition of suspense thrown in for good measure.

After a rough breakup Adrian is left broken down and questioning his self-worth. In a desperate attempt to prove he’s not the bore and lousy lay his ex said he was Adrian goes back to a leather bar in search of the mysterious stranger who hit on him a few weeks back. The two hit it off right away, and what was supposed to be a one night stand turn into more and more weekends. But Wyatt has many secrets keeping him from committing to anything more than the infrequent encounter.

Some weeks later and out of the blue mysterious things starts happening. The FBI starts questioning Adrian, thugs show up demanding information about things Adrian has no clue about. In theory this book could have been really great. I love stories where the underdog rebuilds their life, rebuild themselves and realises they are worth being loved, that they are perfect the way they are – no matter what others think. I’m also a huge fan of suspense, criminal investigations and such. I love the thrill of a good chase, figuring out the clues and have them make sense.

I think the foundation was there, but it lacked in the execution and the book was more melodrama than romantic suspense. I never felt anything between Adrian and Wyatt beyond the lust, they didn’t spend much time together outside the bed for them to really have something sold or build on. So I can’t say that I believed in their relationship. I also felt that the flow between the romance and the suspense was a bit off. It was mostly an either or situation where you could almost divide the book in two, the first part was the romance, and the second half dealt with the FBI and the mob. It almost felt like two different stories and not one complete one.

I would say that Nick J. Russo’s performance of this book was the best part. As so many times before he elevated the story and made it an okay listen. Without it, I personally don’t think I would have finished this book. Russo made it easy to follow the story and keep track of all the characters as he has so many different voices and switches between them effortlessly. He also captured the personalities of both Adrian and Wyatt really well. You could feel Adrian’s insecurities pouring off him, his inner musings highlighting his lack of confidence. You also felt Wyatt’s longing to stay with Adrian, but the need to keep running was so ingrained in him that he couldn’t see a way out.

While I once again stand corrected in my pre-judgement of a book, I still can’t say that it was a hit for me. It tried but didn’t quite get there. Then again, listening to Russo is always a treat.

It's insanely lovely. There is nothing I didn't love about this book. Starting from the title, which made me do a little "ngh?" at first but soon made perfect sense and was very cute, with its question mark in the end :) It's sweet, hot, low on angst and at the same time touching and emotional. It's a modern fairy tale, not an exaggerated one, but one you can and want to believe in.
Okay, I'm really fond of stories where a character is living routine, not happy but, like a horse in blinders, not knowing there could be a different life. And then something happens, or he does something, something unusual - and he blossoms, and his life changes... once he's brave enough to make the first step. And it was very easy to like Adrian.

I liked this one, but I couldn't help but feel like the mystery and action towards the end was not necessarily needed. I would have been happier just having this book focused on the development of Wyatt and Adrian's relationship. Their instant connection and attraction was well done and I enjoyed their one on one time a lot. I did not enjoy the OTT mob and bad guys storyline that much.

Aye aye aye, what a rollercoaster. I went from pissed off to nearly peeing myself laughing in just a few minutes. This book was pure entertainment.

To start off, this book made me so mad, or well, a certain character did. We start of with Mr. Adrian, our lovely little MC who just so happens to find a gay bar in the middle of nowhere. And of course, after being depicted ast he most boring, plain, bland character ever, he gets hit on my none other than Mr. leather hottie. Just the setup to this book was unbelievable, but I can roll with it, the title is Power Bottom? so I kind of knew what I was getting into when I pressed play on this one. Being as loyal and faithful as he is, Adrian turned away from the temptation and walked out, only to find out later that his douchebag of a boyfriend, Martin, was cheating on him (useless jerk) and found him to be exactly the boring and bland guy he was depicted as right from the very beginning.

“You can’t tell me you’re that oblivious. If you want to lie to yourself, that’s fine, but don’t lie to me. You know the sex sucks.”

Ouch. You can see where this is going, right? In a fit of anger and burning desire to prove everyone wrong and cheer himself up, he went back to the bar to find Wyatt, his mystery leather man. And no joke, this guy really was a mystery. But of course, for the sake of plot, Wyatt sweeps him off of his feet and takes him back to a hotel to get busy between the sheets and the humor ensues. Adrain is one clumsy dude. I kept laughing at how bad he was screwing up and bumping into nonmoving objects, Wyatt, himself, anything and everything he could bump into or trip over, he did.

Sexy times continue, nonetheless, and Wyatt can't get enough of Adrain so of course they meet again and again and again. A little predictable, yes, but it was still cute. Somewhere along the way Adrain stopped being funny though and there was just... nothing really between them. I think Adrain's humor, or rather THE humor filled gaps in their relationship in the beginning of the book but as I kept listening to it, I just felt like their relationship was lacking substance. Usually, I would shake it off because really, the title kind of tells me what the entire purpose of this book is, but this book is 255 pages and over 7 hours of audio to listen to and that's a lot of pages to work on developing a relationship. I just felt like it wasn't as well developed as I would have liked it to be, and that's the reason for the 3.5 rating.

All in all though, it was a pretty good read and it was very entertaining. I'd be careful and probably not read/listen to this one in public. The narrator did a bang up job of getting into character, if you know what I mean. This one comes recommended from me, but don't expect much of a deep relationship between the MC's. Just enjoy the surface level humor and hot sex and it'll be a fun time.

With a title like that…

With a title like Power Bottom?, I wasn’t completely sure what to expect when I began this audiobook. In truth, had not some fellow book friends given it such high ratings, I probably would have passed right on by. I’m glad that wasn’t case because the story was really enjoyable and, per usual, narrator Nick J. Russo doesn’t disappoint.

I really liked both main characters and really enjoyed how well they complemented and contrasted with one another. In the opening chapters, Adrian suffered a harsh break-up that left him spinning. His character had this amiable sort of quirkiness and vulnerability that made him very relatable. At times his attempts to be confident were awkward and funny, making him that much more endearing. Wyatt proved to be Adrian’s opposite in most ways- from his easy going confidence to his wandering lifestyle, but they were great together. I really liked how the chemistry between them steadily built and I absolutely loved when Wyatt’s sweet, steady side came out immediately to soothe Adrian. Their compatibility made it easy to root for this couple. The hook-ups were as sweet as they were hot. However, they didn’t have a straight forward path to a happily-ever-after. The conflicts that kept them apart were a little far-fetched, but not so much that I was rolling my eyes. In the end, it added just enough stress and angst to the book to keep things entertaining. The pacing throughout the book was brisk but never rushed. It made for an easy, pleasurable read that kept my focus from start to finish.

Nick J. Russo delivered a great performance for this dual point-of-view story. It was easy to follow along with the dialogue and his inflections and pacing made for a nice listen. If you are a fan of audiobooks and looking for an easier romance with just a touch of angst, this title and narrator won’t disappoint.

Bored

Only way to describe how I was feeling. I know it wasn't me, because I was able to finish two other books before I came back to finish this one. I'm usually okay with OTT cheesy stories, but this did not work for me. I was bored, and bored so more. I don't know how the author expected me to connect with each other. Adrian and Wyatt met for weekends about 3 or 4 times before fuckery ensued and then the I love you's came out. I'm over the wallflower storyline and the hot guy showing up to rescue him. I wanted something different. Adrian has self-esteem issues, but he didn't no about them until Martin brought them up. How??? How do you have all these reservations and questions about yourself but you've never noticed them. Naw, I'm not buying what you are selling dearie.

The biggest disappointment was the plot. I am 1000% that this was suppose to be a parody. There's no other way for me to even understand Wyatt's story. WTF was happening? I'm so confused. I even re-read it, and still I'm not sure about it. A big ass house, his father is a crook, the mob is involved and Wyatt is to pay for this. Well he thinks he is because he's been running for the past 15 years. But he's never gotten caught up with. I'm not even certain that anyone was after him. Until the fiasco with Adrian's job. I still don't believe how it was only 2 employees giving all this attention and no one else in the company noticed it. Yeah, I'll go and collect my $200 for this mess please. To be 236 pages, it didn't have enough substance. I mean, it was basically weekend sex, and Adrian at work. That's how I would describe it. I didn't have a good time with this story, and I didn't like it. It was written well, but the content just wasn't my cup of tea at all.

“Power Bottom” is my first book by this author. It was an ok read. The plot was not realistic and the characters felt a little flat to me. I love smut just like any other girl but only sexy times is not what makes a great romance. I like more plot and character development and meaningful conversations in my romance along with the smut. Adrian and Wyatt’s arrangement was more of a casual hook up than the start of something meaningful and permanent. I didn’t feel the connection between them. While reading the book I could not justify Wyatt’s feelings towards Adrian. More POV of Wyatt’s would have definitely been better.

Also there was the whole secret about Wyatt. The guy has been spooked for a long time and he has been running away from a phantom enemy for 15 years. That bit was stupid and a hard pill to swallow. The actual reveal of his secret comes quite late in the story. Wyatt’s mystery was not that great and believable.

As for the plot progression, I found it boring. Wyatt and Adrian’s relationship from casual sex partners to love happens quite out of the blue. I got that Wyatt was attracted to Adrian and was determined to give him orgasms to die for and build his non-existent self-confidence, but the love part was sudden. I thought more feelings would be in play before Adrian is branded as the guy to “anchor Wyatt” in one place. Wyatt’s past does not let him trust people very much and I did not feel that they had enough time together to actually cultivate a love which will make Wyatt stay and over rule his fear of imaginary mafia after him.

The story was a 2 star read for me. I am giving the other half star for the only believable part in the story, which was the Adrian’s part of the mystery. Adrian’s company is getting investigated and it turns out that they are guilty. His company is a mob front and the progress and conclusion of that part was quite exciting and nice to read.

Overall, I did not like this book a lot. The romance part is negligible and if you are looking for smut without a lot of meaningful plot development then you can give this book a try.

I would not recommend it.

Well. I thought I did my due diligence by reading the excerpt available for this book before selecting it. That excerpt may just have been the best part of this book and most of this book did not agree with me at all.

So we have Adrian who has been with Martin for close to a year. They live together, but Adrian doesn’t really see how high maintenance and shallow Martin is until he turns downright mean. Adrian had little self esteem to begin with and Martin’s insults devastate him.

Adrian can’t get Wyatt’s suggestive comment out of his head and he returns to the scene of the crime to find Wyatt. The comment goes back to the title of the book and while it was touched upon in a few scenes, it never was fully developed to have such a place of importance. I could never warm up to Adrian. He’s completely self- deprecating every moment, he’s constantly apologizing, he has zero self confidence, he’s perpetually blushing, and he’s clumsy. It was simply too much for me for one character to have all of these traits.

The tittle caught me at first. I mean, oow..Power bottom can be so persuasive when it comes to sex, huh?
I have no complain about the sex, it was hot right after Adrian met Wyatt again for the second time.
It was lust at a first sight. But along the way, Wyatt became addicted to Adrian, so was Adrian to him.
If you're looking for a sweet sugary story, I don't think this book is what you're looking for.
Adrian and Wyatt experienced some adventure, that actually can tear them apart.
There's a little disappointment in my detective head about Wyatt's past.
Because fifteen years is quite long and there's no explanation about people who's after him. It was just disappear, done.
A little bit closure would be fine.
Wyatt though, think he's the one who can't stay away from Adrian, and keep in denial that it was just sex.
Overall, this one is quite good if you're looking for some adventure romance and a great sex.
What re you waiting for? This is probably a story for you.

I have to confess, I read the book because of the title. I mean, you can't beat that! However, the book was actually a sweet love story that left a big smile on my face. I liked both MC's, there was a plot that was gripping, and a bit of a fairy tale ending.

What a sweet, sweet story. *Sigh * I just loved it!

Poor Adrian is so, sweet and gets his big heart stomped on right at the beginning. But instead of crawling away and hiding for weeks, he’s so brave to try again. Luckily he finds The. Nicest. Guy. Ever. In Wyatt. Wyatt is just a refreshing breath of air. He’s honest, hot and open. Exactly what Adrian needs.

Neither of these guys expected something as big as what they got and that felt really authentic. I teared up several times as poor Adrian puts himself out there so bravely.

The “mystery” is pretty predictable, but I don’t think it was meant to be a big secret. It helped to drive the plot but didn’t detract from the romance. Perfect! I loved the secondary characters – Bev and Furlough and Alpha, Beta, Charlie and Delta, too!

I think this was a case where the sex actually helped move the story forward, because it showed us bits of both characters and how they grew closer each time they met, so while there is quite a bit of sex, it all seemed to be needed and it was all hot (after the parts that were awkward and funny!) and then really tender. Again – perfect!

I really loved this and highly recommend it!

What could make this wonderful story even better? Nick J Russo!

Man! He absolutely aces this! He gives Wyatt this super yummy growly voice that is soooo wonderful! Listening to this only added to my enjoyment because Nick was able to capture Wyatt’s “image” so well with his voice. He also gave Furlough a voice that I wasn’t expecting but actually suited him to a T. The narrator found unique voices for all the secondary characters as well, and I thought his choice for Adrian was excellent, too.

Highly recommended!

I’ve actually read so many good M/M reads, especially after my discovery of TJ Klune, that I was positive I was due for a dud and I thought Power Bottom would be it. There wasn’t anything that made me think it would be bad, I was just bracing myself. My shining hope was that Power Bottom was a Dreamspinner Press book, and I don’t think think I’ve gotten a Dreamspinner dud yet.

Power Bottom wasn’t a dud at all.

There was so much to like about this book. First, I really liked Adrian. I have a thing for the awkward lead characters. The ones who know just how nerdy and not hot they are. I like this angle for a couple of reasons. First, it’s how most of us feel about ourselves. It makes characters like Adrian relateable. I am nerdy. I’m not ultra-cool. I don’t say the right thing, and sexual situations make me feel like I’m fumbling. (Or they would if I was the type to go try and pick some guy up in a bar. I don’t need to worry about those things, thank goodness!) Then, the best part, is when the two characters meet and smoking hot Wyatt thinks Adrian (the nerd) is the sexiest, most adorable creature to ever walk the earth. Who doesn’t swoon over that? What nerd doesn’t want to be desired like that? It’s the awkward character, paired with the a love interest who thinks his awkwardness is sexy that makes this trope so unbelievably romantic.

I also thought the dialogue between Wyatt and Adrian was sweet. I hate unnecessary drama in a story, and Power Bottom didn’t have much. The two characters tried to stay up front with each other, even when it was uncomfortable to do so. Even though neither of them thought the relationship would last long term, they didn’t needlessly stay away. (Not even when they thought they should.)

Unfortunately there were a few aspects of the story that did bring down my rating. I’m not going to dwell on them, just toss them out really quickly so I can say I was honest. First, the relationship felt like it moved too fast. The book starts with Adrian already in a relationship. His hookup with Wyatt was supposed to be about proving something to himself after being dumped, and from there it snowballed very fast into luuuurve. It’s understandable. The awkward one usually will fall fast, especially when their new lover has “a smile that’s pure sin”. -How many times have we read that line?- The speed with which they fell left me feeling more like this was a rebound story, and less like True Love.

Also, I thought the plot about the cops was a little contrived. We didn’t need it. There was plenty of good story with Wyatt and Adrian alone.

Overall though, I’d read more by Rowan McAllister. I was smiling and happy throughout the read. Highly entertained.

Note: This audiobook was provided to me through Hearts on Fire Reviews in exchange for an impartial review.

I enjoyed this audiobook immensely! From the outstanding narration by Nick J. Russo, to the characters and their situation, and the mystery and the intrigue surrounding Adrian’s job.

Adrian and his soon-to-be-ex, Martin, need a phone after Adrian’s car breaks down when he takes Martin on a picnic intended to rekindle their relationship by spending some fun time together. Finding no cell service in the rural area, they stumble upon what Adrian learns (when he goes in) is a leather bar out in the sticks. Since he’s the top in his relationship he’s the one who goes in—and there he meets Wyatt, a strong, muscular, leather-clad man who whispers sexy secrets in Adrian’s ear, including what he’d like to do with a hot little “power bottom” like Adrian. Scoffing internally, Adrian tells him his boyfriend is waiting and walks away from the hot man.

But that one phrase sticks with him and when he catches Martin in a lie about another man, he’s free to pursue his thoughts on that catch phrase. Not surprisingly, he ends up back at that bar, looking for Wyatt, and when he finds him, he finds out just what a hot little power bottom he can be. The two embark on a once a week motel visit fling and it’s not until the sh*t hits the fan at his job that their two lives merge more completely.

Wyatt has been running, for what seems like forever, from the mob that saw him as their ticket to getting back the money his father owed them. Now, when he spots a vehicle with two passengers who seem to be staking out the motel room where he and Adrian meet, he runs again. It isn’t immediate, but he eventually finds out it’s Adrian they’re staking out. Adrian’s place of business has been under surveillance for a while and he’s gotten inadvertently mixed up in a sting.

I don’t want to give the whole plot away, but I’m trying to show that the story is indeed complex, and sometimes convoluted, but the solution is everything I would hope for in an MM romance novel. Missing money, shootouts, FBI, mob—all the things I enjoyed during my early TV-watching years—now in my romance novel. What’s not to like?

I recommend this to lovers of MM romance, especially if you love the underdog, a clueless power bottom and his hot leather lover, and lots of action. And be sure to get the audiobook because Nick J. Russo brings it all to life!

~ Narration Rating: 5 Stars ~

On the last night of his relationship, Adrian’s car breaks down and he and his whiny boyfriend have to march through a rural area to find a place to call for a tow and a ride ack to civilization. Relief floods Adrian when they discover that the “biker bar” they found is actually a gay bar. It gets even better when a hot and sexy older man openly flirts with Adrian.

A few days later, Adrian has been dumped. He’s been told he’s boring, he’s annoying, and he’s a bad lay. After his boyfriend leaves, Adrian drives back out to the rural bar looking for Wyatt—and maybe some adventure, maybe something else. So, when he does find Wyatt and explains he is no longer attached, Adrian and Wyatt combust. They rush out of the bar and to the nearest hotel where…things don’t go exactly as planned, but the sparks remain. Adrian is almost never a bottom, but with Watt the sex is so intense and so fulfilling, the idea that he’s a bad lay starts to get washed away. What starts out as no-strings-attached fun quickly becomes something both men may have been missing their entire lives. Adrian needs to gain confidence, and Wyatt needs a reason to stay put. Each man rescues the other, and the specifics of who does what in bed is replaced with true love and affection.

Nick Russo once again gives his full talents to this narration. All of the things listeners have come to expect when they see his name on the narration line are on full display here. You will not be disappointed. There’s a mystery involved in both the main and the subplot. Each has its own pace and characters, and Russo makes every bit of the story pop. The complete story gives him so much material to work with that you may want to listen to it several times to fully appreciate the nuances of his talented voice and richness of the characters he renders here.

Buy the book for the story and for the top-level narration. Look for the names of both the author and the narrator on future books for what surely will be a fun ride.

Eh. I was really loving the first third of this book. I usually don't like non-MC relationships in my books, but it worked for us to see Adrien and Martin together as well as their subsequent break up. It really put us in it with Adrien. And we got to see how Wyatt's words affected him, as well as his struggle of finding himself again after the break up.

But the sex is actually when it started going downhill for me. I wanted a rough and tumble whirlwind that sucked Adrian up and spit him back out used and sated. I get that he was supposed to be bumbling and awkward and over-thinking, and I do usually love laughter and playfulness in my sex scenes. But his constant insecurities pulled me out of the mood along with him, and all that talking made it way overly analytical.

And to be honest, it made it difficult to see what Wyatt saw in Adrian. Okay, he's cute, and you like a shy guy. But I've had a a string of these books lately where our main MC is so self-deprecating to the point that IRL it would make people uncomfortable.

But I am glad we got Wyatt's POV too so at least we knew what was going on with him and what he was thinking. Speaking of, the mystery plots were weird and didn't gel. I appreciate a good twist, but I never felt like Wyatt's stuff was resolved (or ever really addressed at all).

I enjoyed this WAY more than I thought I would! I think I was initially turned off by the cover, or the title, or the question mark at the end of the title?

Regardless, both MCs grew on me. One is Adrian, a staid accountant who is hurting from a cruel breakup. He is very insecure from the harsh words his cheating boyfriend delivered. His insecurities and low self-esteem get repetitive at times, but still work for this character. The other MC, Wyatt, is a mysterious giant, tattooed, drifting stranger who Adrian can't get out of his head. I can't get Wyatt out of my mind either!

There's a bit of a mystery here in regards to Wyatt's past, Adrian's work, and a tinted four-door sedan. The plot points work well enough, even if they are a bit contrived....but hey, suspend all disbelief and you're golden for this one!

The sex between the two was steamy, although it slacked off in the later half of the book in favor of plot/mystery/action. The writing was consistent, good, but not outstanding.

There's an HEA with a lovely figurative slap-to-the-face to Adrian's ex. All in all, a quick, satisfying read.

This was...boring.

I read a review that said the title was misleading, but for some reason I still went into this thinking I was going to get a sexy romance with a side of sexual discovery. I can't really recall a book that I've read where the characters figure out what positions they like, they usually already mostly know that before the book starts. So I thought it would be interesting and entertaining to read about a character discovering he's a power bottom...but this book was not about that.

Yes, Adrian only bottoms with Wyatt and that's what I was expecting, but he never had an aha! moment where he discovered he was a bottom or thought about maybe the reason his ex thought the sex with him was terrible was because he isn't a top. He just continues to bottom with Wyatt and thinks the sex is really great. Plus there really was barely any sex which I did not expect from a book called Power Bottom.

But back to how this book was boring, I picked this up thinking it was mostly a romance. In actuality, I felt like there was practically no romance at all because it was all about Adrian's little "mysterious" work thing, which was super super boring. I really did not care. I kept thinking "Why call this book Power Bottom? when it isn't even about that?!"

The characters were fine and I liked Wyatt as the love interest, but I wish there was more of him. There were more chapters without him than I would've liked. It just needed more romance and less pointless mystery that did nothing for the story!

Also I would've felt more satisfied at the end if there had been a bigger confrontation with Martin. Yeah, they kind of shoved their relationship in his face, but I would've liked some words to be said to that asshole.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was good. I would definitely listen to a book read by him again, but it could not make up for the lackluster story. I'm starting out by giving this three stars, but if I think on it more I may lower it down to two.

This wasn't what I was expecting at all from the title. I thought biker at first but no there isn't even though Wyatt rides a bike. The title makes me think of a lot of sex with little story but this has a story, and a very good one at that. Both the MC's are great even if Adrian needs a push to stop believing the crap his ex said to him. I dislike people who blame everyone else for their short comings.
