Network+ Certification Success Guide

Rate this book
The authors of Network+ Certification Success Guide designed this study guide to explain the scope and importance of the Computer Technology Industry Association's (CompTIA) network administration certification process. The authors don't attempt to teach you everything you need to know on the subject but rather set out to present the informational outline used by the test creators and frame it with a general discussion of networking fundamentals. The initial chapters focus on the importance of certification and the explosive trends in the IT industry. These chapters, while packed with analyst data, offer propositions that are familiar to many already working in the computer business. Of particular interest is the chapter entitled "Working as a Network Professional," which sets the stage for the examination by laying out the basic duties of a networking administrator--including everything from site planning to training. This section should be particularly useful to readers who are unsure what networking administration entails. The authors use the curriculum outline for the Network+ test to present the material you'll need to learn. The book enlists several diagrams and drawings to expose the reader to basic networking hardware and concepts like TCP/IP, the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, and connector types. Network+ Certification Success Guide wraps up with sample test questions to measure your knowledge. Since this isn't an all-in-one book, you'll need to look elsewhere to study specific networking topics in depth. However, it works well enough as a tool for learning the basics of networking and discovering what you need to know to get certified. --Stephen Plain
