Kamachi Kazuma (鎌池和馬) is a Japanese-born light novel author and the original creator of the Toaru Majutsu no Index light novel series and Toaru Kagaku no Railgun, its spin-off manga series.
This volume is better than the last one for sure The post-apocalypse setting reminds me of Owari no Seraph. But anyway thanks to this settings, I had a chance to see Touma being hopeless, desperate again The fights are more intense, the usual banter is kinda hard to find, on contrary to other volumes where Mikoto was being a tsundere pain. I love her serious side in this :> To sum it up, great. Have high expectation for Kamisato rescue arc
This... was it some kind of comic zombie apocalypse? What is Kamachii in your head? The novel tries to be serious here, but I can't stand its seriousness as the situation is silly and confusing. It's not like a zombie apocalypse that everyone already knows what's going to happen. It's a new setting, in the academic city in a comically apocalyptic state and well... It becomes shallow and extremely substantial (At least in the beginning)
The problem here is understood by dispersion.... It is not the first time this has happened, but here it becomes very strange and unexpected. The speed of events so far had been frightening, not impossible from a fictional point of view, but still slightly unrealistic.
Speaking of unrealism, can we talk more about this ridiculous apocalypse? The situation is so bizarre (after a while, it even gets dull) that in many parts that should contain some seriousness, the author doesn't manage to get across to us. Life here seems to be treated with a comic lightness, almost like a parody...... There is no real danger when the characters themselves don't look like humans who feel it, but rather walking roles. I believe some characters there wouldn't even need a hang glider to fly... They would just need to throw themselves through the air and they would fly through the air currents, just like a paper.
Here we get into a key issue for this volume.... The flow of information, which causes SO MUCH this sense of lostness.
The connectivity of information here is mediocre, the flow is confused not only because the world configuration is unreal, but because of a lack of DECENT explanations and a good narrative, which would better bring people's vision around the disaster and its worrying situations. If I may say so, it's a sloppy job on an apocalyptic issue. I think only Kamachii didn't want to worry about it this time, as in other arcs that didn't even fit an apocalypse, he still did a good narrative job and brought with him a good deal of despair.
To make the flow of information even worse, we have elements, which have a slightly interesting concept, but in terms of plot twists related to these monsters, they're actually pretty predictable. Fortunately, when the plot really centers on true seriousness leaving the twisted comic aside, a good trigger is activated. Decent plot twists are created, and even if the desperation is not evident, probably because of the mediocre work of the author or the comic setting created, it doesn't really have much impact, but from the various strokes of the script that transform the dynamics of force, a crack is created and it is enough to give an air of hope to the reader to get out of that polluted mass in the form of literature. It's nothing very deep or well-crafted, but it's still a rope to get out of that rotten previous reading
What really stopped me from finding this volume bad was the final trajectory, which even though the battle scenes were not so explored, as there were too many battles for few descriptions, still managed to have their impact and the way the script creates a small burst of information to guide the reader to the next volume is really pleasurable. If the NT17 weren't so much criticized, I could probably have some hope that it's a good volume...... Well, if it turns out to be a positive surprise, I'll be pretty happy.
Finally, we have some monologues and philosophies around some types of revenge, bringing some very exploitable points and a fair ending with everything that the script created until then.
In aesthetic terms, if we put together everything that happened so far, it's not a bad volume really, but in my opinion, it was quite boring to read, which led me to give such a low grade. I won't judge who liked the volume and I really believe that if it weren't for some problems here and there, it would be a very good volume, but unfortunately the problems do exist and they should be warned.
Extra note: Kamisato harem is a bit difficult to deal with, isn't it?
