A story of love and loss in a small town that begins with the discovery of a body in the Mississippi River. Three decades later the story continues in a thrilling and terrifying convergence of people and events that could never have been predicted.
Structured from the point of view of all of the characters...sometimes you have to pause to figure out which person is talking until you really learn the connections. Good character and dialogue. We
I had a hard time rating this book. It started off really promising and the author did an excellent job of describing the characters and the relationships and setting the stage for what I thought would be a mystery tied to the events of the early chapters. But then the book started jumping around between several narrators and different time periods and a number of different story lines. I enjoyed reading the book and thought the writer did a good job describing the events from all the different viewpoints. However I was very disappointed when I got to the end and there was no real conclusion or any connection to the events at the beginning of the book which I thought inspired the name "The River." It seemed as if I had just read a series of anecdotes and interviews instead of a novel with a a plot and a conclusion.
A JMG. Mystery Thriller/Illinois/Boston/Chicago/Boston/Carthage, ILL
JMG. has. penned a mystery thriller that at times seems to have no direction, but in truth this author, as deceptive as he can be, is always leading the reader on an enjoyable ride as they attempt to determine the action and direction he is going. In next. This is a story line about attorneys that protect people and even become confused as to which side they are on. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
I wasn't sure about this book in the beginning but it really grew on me. It was not the type of book I usually read but I really liked it. I liked Jack a lot. I like books where the characters are not beautiful and perfect. This guy was human. He was real.
I have been reading John McCauley books and will continue until his last book! I have wanted to review each book but could not express how much enjoyment they have given me. The characters are real. Manny unique and real stories and the characters. Thank you John McCauley
Again, a complex mix of information from many characters, all of which solves the puzzle at the end of the novel. Interesting approach to telling the story. Still not sure if I, personally, am really comfortable with this method.
Easy reading. Good plot. I liked the way each chapter focused on one character. Made for great character development. Read this book easily in two days
