Rate this book
***This is a full-length Standalone Interracial Romance Mystery with a new cover***

My actions were wrapped in good intentions. I wanted to protect the woman I love at all cost, but maybe I went too far.

Her wrath I deserved. Hell, I earned it, but losing her, no way, man. That was out of the question. That I would not allow.

Hopefully she finds it in her heart to forgive me, because I am in for the duration. I am not going anywhere.

Meet Tank Mancini, former Marine and Contractor for hire. You’ll be longing to trade places with his lady love. Tank loves his lady and will do whatever is necessary to protect her.

Tank Mancini is gravely hurt during a covert mission for an secret organization. He's instructed his best friend Marshall to prevent his wife of seven years, Erica from coming to his bedside. His excuse, he doesn't want her to see him in such grave condition. His wife's occupation: She's a Nurse! He convalesces for 12 months -- a whole year without "any" contact whatsoever with his wife or his parents.

In order to flush him out drastic measures are called for and Tank's parents have the bright idea of convincing his wife to send him a clear and distinct message about the status of their non-existent relationship. Tank receives the message loud and clear. Low and behold, he is nearly healed anyway so he checks himself out of the hospital against the wishes of his best friend. Tank is determined to win his wife back but she's decided she isn't going to make it easy for him. Well, that plan falls apart because quicker than you can say "second honeymoon" they reconcile.

This book definitively fell apart for me at the 79 percent mark. Tank is asked to answer a question to which his wife did not like his answer. An answer that was necessary to give as a stall tactic. And, her reaction to this very serious situation is turned into an episode of a bad sitcom. This is a man she has been married to for seven years, a man that is her soulmate, a man that has proven that he would die for her. She takes his answer and makes it "all" about her. She didn't trust that her husband knew what he had to do in order to handle the life or death situation.

Shortly, thereafter in the story Erica basically tells her husband himself for her!

Here's the passage:

“I know this is a dangerous mission, but you have to promise me that you’ll be careful out there. and I love her, but ... " ransom the process.”

My jaw dropped a couple of times after reading this passage (and for other situations that occurred in the story) and so did my rating for this book because that dangling conjunction and the word ransom speaks volumes.

One last note ... the villain and the villain's reasons for their actions is ludicrous and laughable.

This is my second book by this author.

This is Tank and Erica's story. I totally understood Erica's position on the action her husband took and the fact that she had to take such drastic measures to get his attention should let him know she was not impressed and it was unfortunate she had to go that far. Tank was lucky that was all she did. What was he thinking? No woman would put up with that. There are a couple twist and turns in the story which were totally unexpected. A good read.

DNF @ 60%

I feel like I am the cheese that stands alone with this book.

I found the scene transitions choppy in some places, repetitive in others.

The dialogue didn't feel natural and the conflict felt manufactured.

The first part of the book was rather boring with lots of thinking and telling and very little showing or doing.

I found the actions of the hero/heroine illogical at times and downright stupid in others.

Supporting characters were a bit caricaturish.

So no this did not work for me.

This book gets better and better as you go along. It's got some surprises in it and a few twists once you pass the half way point. At first, I admit, it was a little dry for me, as far as plot was concerned. I did like the really hot and descriptive love scenes between husband and wife of course, but man if Erika didn't get on my last nerve with her doubts and insecurities of her marriage. Tank just hung in there. I mean, they supposed to be married 7 years and it's like she doesn't even trust or know this man who is completely dedicated to her. I don't get it really, because she knows what his job is like and how he has to be and yet, she carries on. So that part, I didn't like, but I was pleasantly surprised with the turn of events in the second half of the book for sure. I didn't know what to expect and the mystery was definitely cool. You get your HEA so, no worries, Tank and Erika find a way to make love conquer all, but there will be bumps! Overall, it's an enjoyable story and there's lots of hotness in there too.

What a shocking turn in this tale

When I thought I was figuring everything out and wanting to whip Ericka's tail for being so hard on Tank, the plot turns upside down and totally surprised me. Ericka and Tank's love story was sweet and endearing in the beginning until his injury when he pushed everyone out of his life. I would feel some kind of way as Ericka did but there comes a time when understanding and trust comes into play. She made Tank jump through hoops to prove to Ericka that he was sorry and would do anything to appease her. But, a woman scorned had other plans. This story line took me totally by surprise. I was not expecting this.

The author wrote s story line where she had the reader with a false sense of everything was going to be okay with the reconnecting couple and then she surprises the reader and turns the plot on its head. Nice job Skylar. I enjoyed reading this story.

Gimme some Tank

Sexy sexy Tank..so much machismo...so much pride...almost caused him everything....until Ericka forcefully prodded him to his senses...she was a little annoying...so independent and stubborn....never wanted to show vulnerability or weakness...but sometimes we as women needs to trust our men to protect us and provide us with a sense of belonging...we need to let them be our saviors....they have to feel needed...they know we can take care of ourselves...but we have to give a little...too much faux independence drives the opposite sex away..

The book with everything!

I'm glad I decided to try this author's work. It really was a good story. Tank and Erica were passionate characters who were deeply in love until Tank broke Erica's heart. Then there were outside forces determined to end their relationship. But those forces didn't know the trouble they brought upon themselves. I really enjoyed this novel and I will be reading more of Skylar Ward's work.

Yass!!!!

I love Tank & Erica!!! I totally get why Erica did what she did. Sometimes men think they know everything and really don't, but when you make the same thing they can't stand it. The ending was totally unexpected!!!!!

This was good. It even had a little comedy to it and my favorite was when Erika picked up the empty gun that was on the table and threatened Tank with it and everyone ignored her. She thought that the gun was loaded and mouthed off and threatened Tank. Anyway, I am glad that this couple got their HEA because the beginning and in some parts I wanted to smack some sense into Erika. She had some growing up to do. Otherwise, it was a great book!

Hmmm...

Not really a cohesive story. And more than bit unbelievable. It was difficult to get through. Ericka, the wife, was honestly unlikable. Tank, the husband, was juvenile. And the description of the book was only a summary of the first few chapters. Before, long that story line was in the record books so it feels like you're reading a different story the synopsis portrays.

the writing was ok but I could not connect to characters. The main characters seemed immature.

Decent love story

Unfortunately wifey was trying to lose her husband even before she got him.back fully. Seems she did not have a lot of faith in him

I really wanted this book to be amazing. But to me, it just dragged on and on. It was anti-climatic and honestly, just boring overall.

Awesome!

I loved this book for so many reasons ( let me count the ways...lol). Erika and Tank are great together and as individuals. Erika is headstrong, but she needs to be to keep loving her husband. She knows her worth. Tank is macho on the exterior but the love for his wife knows no bounds. The supporting casts are fantastic! The torturing scenes are very visual. Loved it!

This book is a good read, you never knew what was going to happen next. I hated that I had to put it down for awhile but once I got to pick It back up again. I couldn't stop reading. Tank a man that will do what he needs to do to get his wife and protect his wife and family at any cost.

Much better than I thought!!

I really enjoyed Tank and Ericka. Although Ericka was working my last nerve going back and forth on how much Tank loved her or if he loved her. She almost made me stop reading, but I'm glad I finished. Good book!

Good

A good story that was an easy read. Long and a bit convoluted in the middle but worked out in the end.

Great

Thank you Ms Ward for sharing this great story. I didn't agree with Tank staying away from his wife and family but I do understand. Great family and friends, so much love.
