Amelia James grew up performing on the stage. Her stunning voice made her the darling of New York's theater district since she was fifteen. She's never been more than an asset to her mother, never been just a woman to the young up-and-coming men who want to use her to advance their own careers. Amelia loves to sing, but is willing to give up fame, fortune and her future on the stage for just one thing...love. Convinced she'll never find what she needs in New York, she makes the daring decision to leave her life behind and travel to the other side of the country as a mail order bride in San Francisco where she won't be anything more than a wife, where her future husband will look into her eyes and see her heart.Wealthy prospector Phillip Dumont learned how to take care of himself from a very young age. With his father’s death, his mother decided to follow her dream and she abandoned her family when he was eighteen years old. Phillip raised a house full of younger siblings on his own. He is instantly attracted to his new wife and tempted to trust her with more than his name. No matter how vehemently Phillip demands obedience from his wife, his sister and his heart, not one will listen. Cynthia Woolf is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of eighty-five works of romance fiction. Comprising sixty-six historical western romances, ten contemporary romance novels, two contemporary romance novellas, one historical western romance novella, and six sci-fi space opera romances, which she calls westerns in space. Along with these books, she has also published twelve boxed sets of her books and two short stories.

Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance, Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia's father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede, that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy, not a bounty hunter, and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now), not the ranch owner.

Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband, Jim, and her great critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

A 5 star review. Amelia has become tired of her life as a famous singer. She longs to be away from the stage and wants only to have a family of her own. As with the other mail order series she takes the stage west. Phillip as a younger sister whom he has raised, but thinks it is time for a woman to add her expertise in teaching things he cannot. They marry immediately and as a short time passes and Amelia becomes pregnant she longs for Phillip to fall in love with her. She already is in love with him. It takes a tragedy for him to realize and declare his love. I look forward to each new book in the "brides" series, and am never disappointed I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Will her secret destroy her marriage.?

Amelia was an accomplished singer from New York who willingly gave up her career for marriage and a family. Phillip want a wife and family too. But as happy as she is to be married she longs to hear those three little words. Though her mother had been married 9 times Amelia didn't even know what love looked like. These are great characters and a wonderful story.

Amelia

I have read so many of Cynthia Woolf’s books and loved all of them. I hope there is another in the Brides of San Francisco series. Amelia wanted a change in her life of the stage and decided to become a mail order bride. Can she change Phillip or is he going to change her. He doesn’t want a wife in the theater. Who makes changes in what they want. And of course there is a bad guy. Jo

Predictable

I have been reading all the Brides of S F series. Although I enjoy them, the theme is always the same: girl goes to S F to marry, meets husband and falls in love. He, however, doesn't profess to love her . Throw in an adversary, and suddenly the husband discovers he loves her after all. Then comes the final chapter when they have a baby and live happily ever after .

Such a beautiful story,!

This is my first book that I have read by Cynthia Woolf. But this won't be my last. This was such a beautiful story about a Mail Order bride that really didn't need to be a mail order bride because she had another very lucrative career. But she wanted a family. She gave up a lot to get to get her first child.

Mail-order bride

I like a bit more imagination and a little less explicit sexual description in my reading than provided. The storyline would have been enough to get the reader from page to page. The desperate murderer helped Philip realize his true feelings.

There is nothing worse than wanting something so bad that you have to lie or tell half truths to get it. Amelia wants a family someone to love and take care of. She is willing to do just about anything to have it. Ms. Woolf brings you a wonderful plot of an entertainer who is willing to give it all up just to have her one dream come true. This has a wonderful plot with great characters you get lost in. There are a few twists and turns that keep you guessing as well as holding your breath for the outcome.

Amelia decides there is no one in NY she wants to marry, there is nothing worse than marrying another entertainer and have you both fight over the shinning lights. She has money of her own and wants a man who doesn’t need her money but wants her for herself. She decides to start over giving her mother the space she needs to grow and start another new marriage of her own. She has been a wonderful child taking care of her mother but now it is her time. Off she goes to a little town where a friend of her went as a mail order bride to meet the man she has agreed to marry. Things start off wonderful until she finds out about his mother. Knowing she cannot tell him she keeps her past a secrete knowing it will not go over well when and if he finds out.

Phillip has had a very hard life when his mother left them leaving him to raise all his brothers and sisters. Once the farm wasn’t doing so well they decided to move out west to try a new life. Buying part of a mine was his last chance to have the money he needed to give his family what they needed. With his sister needing a female to teach her all the things he cannot he decides a mail order bride is best for him. No heart strings, have a wife, his own children and someone to help his sister life is good until her past come out and he can’t forgive the one thing she held back.

As is the norm things do not go as planned right from the start there are misunderstandings they are easy to overcome. The attraction is very strong they get married almost right away when she finds out what his mother did she knows if she wants a happy marriage she cannot tell him about her singing or there will be no marriage. As you know things have a way of coming out at the worse times whic causes a big up roar between the two. Amelia has fallen in love with her husband but he hasn’t with her. She feels lost, alone and about to hit rock bottom. His old partner isn’t helping things with his demands and his plans. Will these two work out their differences or will the old partner break them up. It could be a fight to the death leaving one or both of them lost and alone.

This was really a heartbreaking story with Amelia wanting to be loved, wanting to be believed. What she gets is one demanding husband who is very angry that she has not only made a fool of him but lied to him. She said she didn’t lie and she isn’t going to say I am sorry. WOW these two are very bullheaded and neither will giving an inch. Heads butt over and over again leaving behind some very hurt feelings and so much loneliness.

I really enjoyed the plot it hooks you from the start and you get caught up in the twists and turns. There are a few times you hold your breath, along with a few times you want to tell Amelia to get over it but at the same time I have to admit I most likely would have been like she was. It has a wonderful ending and some truly outstanding scenes. There is a little humor, as well as a growing love with Amelia and her sister in law. To kind spirits they are. I really liked how the attraction played out between Amelia and Phillip it was exciting, at times slow and easy and then fast jumping in with both feet. It was really nice to catch up with past characters that I came to love. It was wonderful to meet new ones knowing in future books you will get to know more about them. This was a delightful read that I had trouble putting down. The author gives you a few surprises as well as a little humor. There is a price to pay for everything as the ex partner learns. He really isn’t the sharpest rock in the river. This is a story about forgiveness, starting over, half truths, give and take, learning what is truly important. It really was a remarkable read that stays with you after you close the last page. I really love this series it has touched me in many ways as well as reminding me of what is important in my life.

I love a good story about the west and this was one. It was the year 1870 and Amelia James was 25 years old and a famous singer. She was tired of the stage life and wanted a loving husband and children. She went to Margaret Selby of Matchmaker & Co in New York City to see about being a mail order bride. She figured that no one would know her in San Francisco. The men that wanted her in New York City was after her money or as a mistress. After speaking with Margaret, Margaret decided that Philip Dumont, a wealthy man in San Francisco would be a good match for her. He wanted a wife who could hep him raise his sister and have children of their own. Amelia read his letter and agreed to be his wife. She traveled to San Francisco with another mail order bride to meet Phillip. After they met and talked some, he told her that his mother left when he was 18 after his father died so she could pursue a signing career. Amelia decided that he couldn’t find out that she was a singer. Besides, she didn’t want that career as she only wanted a family. You need to read the book to see what happens.

Phillip was a good man who had raised his brothers and one sister. After he saw his mother leave, he didn’t believe in love. He did want a family of his own. Amelia was an only child and had been the mother to her own mother. She had always wanted siblings. She didn’t think she could fall in love as her mother was on her ninth marriage and she never saw love. I enjoyed the book and love reading about the west once in awhile. I encourage you to read the book. I was given a book for an honest review.

Cynthia Woolf is one of the few authors who still create historical westerns. In fact, she writes a lot of books about mail-order brides. This custom was very popular in the 1870s due to the lack of women in the west.

Amelia James lived in New York. Her mother is an actress, and Amelia has been a professional singer for years. However, Amelia did not have a husband or children. Because she was rich and famous, Amelia was afraid that someone would marry her for those reasons only. So she decided to give up singing and become a mail-order bride to a man in San Francisco.

Phillip Durant is a wealthy prospect in San Francisco. When his father died, his mother left her family to pursue her dream as a singer. Phillip was eighteen and had to raise his big family on his own. The only sibling left now is his sister Toni. He decides to get a mail-order bride to help him raise his sister and, eventually, have children of his own.

In Ms. Woolf’s books, the man and the woman always work together. They enjoy each other’s company and are happy to be married. However, in this book, Amelia has her own money and has taken care of her immature mother for years. She is independent and stubborn and refuses to be obedient to her husband. She hides the fact that she is a singer from Phillip after she hears about the reason for his mother’s desertion.

Another problem stems from the anger of Phillip’s old partner who is angry because Phillip struck it rich after they broke up. He wants his half of the money even though Phillip had bought him out years ago.

I was given this Ebook by the author for my honest review.
I really enjoyed this story . Amelia is a well known singer in New York , being the daughter of an actress it was inevitable that she would pursue a career in singing. After years in the theatre , wanting more for her life , and being witness to her mothers many failed marriages she decides to become a mail order bride. After all, the men in New York wanted her for her fame or her money.
She gets matched with Philip Dumont of San Francisco a wealthy man who had struck it rich in gold mining. After his fathers death and his mother running away to be a singer, raising his younger siblings alone. He was looking for a woman to help him raise his younger sister and have children of his own , but there would be no falling in love that was out of the question That suited Amelia just fine, never having experienced it she didn't believe in it. But life has a way of changing things. Knowing that her previous life as a singer would create a rift in her newly found happiness she keeps it s secret . Will Philip be able to look past who she was and accept their life together? This is truly a sweet love story of new beginnings and chances at love! Cynthia Woolf's books should not be overlooked !
Heat rating is sensual nothing to hot.

Cynthia Woolf has done it again in her latest novel “Amelia” the fifth in her Brides of San Francisco series. Amelia James is a famous singer who has come to realize that she wants more out of life than bright lights and adoring fans, so she makes a choice to quit her lucrative career and become a mail-order bride. Phillip Dumont is a miner turned millionaire and he wants a wife to not only start a family with, but he needs her to teach his younger sister the finer arts of becoming a woman. Amelia grew up watching her famous mother marry one man after another, while Phillip had to put his own life aside in order to raise his siblings after his father died and his mother ran away to peruse her own dreams. Can these two people who are jaded by experiences in their past find a way to come together and find true love? Only Cynthia Woolf can write a love story that is as fast-paced and riveting as this beautiful story she has created. I was given this book to read by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I'm a fan of Ms. Woolf's historical western romances, especially The Brides of San Francisco series. This was the 5th and latest addition to that series, and the heroine Amelia was leaving a rewarding career as a famous singer and leaving New York city to travel to San Francisco as a mail order bride to a rich miner, Phillip Dumont. Too many men in New York wanted to marry her for her fortune, or make her their mistress due to her career on stage. I found this storyline intriguing and refreshing, but I did not feel as emotionally invested in Amelia's and Phillip's romance as I have with the main characters in the previous books of this series. Also I was disappointed in the lack of development of the secondary character James Deaver, the love interest of Phillip's younger and only sister Toni. I did not find the story hard to finish and it was well worth the read, but when compared with the rest of the series, it falls a little short.

Amelia (The Brides of San Francisco Book 5)by Cynthia Woolf is the next addition in a series about mail-order brides who go to San Francisco . Cynthia Woolf does a wonderful job of giving the details of how the town looks and of the houses and clothing requirements of women of the 1870's.She creates characters that are strong and makes you think the characters are right there telling you the story. It is a story about Philip who does not plan on caring about his mail-order bride, Amelia. Amelia is willing to give up a career as a singer and move across the country to have a family. The question is Philip and Amelia's relations stronger enough to weather the storm. It is nice as you get to see what is going on in the characters from the other books as well. It is a nice read for the beach or a rainy day.

This was a well written story.
Amelia is a strong beautiful woman who is trying to change her life. She had a successful career singing and is well off for life, but she wants more, she wants a family! She becomes a Mail Order Bride.
Phillip is a hard working man who has raised his siblings from an early age. He needs a wife to help raise his baby sister, Baby?
Can they both become what the other needs? Can love be involved or is this an arrangement of convenience?
There are some surprises, suspense and you just want to shake them sometimes. You will love reading all of the events as I have.
I was given this book for an honest opinion, but I bought it because it was such a good story.

Amelia sings like an angel and has been singing since she was 15. Now it is time to give up performing so she can be a wife and mother. She can't find someone in New York to marry, so she decides to be a mail order bride and go to San Francisco. There, hopefully, no one will know her and she can live a peaceful life. Phillip raised his brothers and sister. He wants to marry and have children but can't find someone that isn't after his money. When Amelia agrees to marry him, he makes it clear that he will never love her. He doesn't believe he can love anyone. Amelia feels the same. But, will they both change their minds when they get to know each other?

Amelia is book five in the Brides of San Francisco series and I was drawn in immediately and stayed glued to my Kindle from beginning to end. It has everything you want in a historical romance including strong, likeable characters who are so real they come right off the page, a well-written story with real emotions and heartwarming romance. I loved the instant chemistry, interactions and repartee between Amelia James and wealthy prospector Philip Dumont. This is a must-read for historical western romance lovers. Cynthia Woolf never disappoints and I look forward to reading more from this talented author. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Another winner for Cynthia Woolf with each book in this wonderful series, I find the latest to be my favorite. Amelia is no exception!

The characters are vivid and heart warming, each having their own lie by omission and each thinking they've done nothing wrong.

Amelia wanted a home and children and hoped for love.

Phillip needed companionship and a mother figure for his sister- He was well off and didn't think he could trust a woman to see beyond his money and really care just for him.

This book has a wonderful story line-thank you Cynthia Woolf for another great story

I am never disappointed when I read a book by this author. This one was no exception. Amelia decides to give up everything for love. She moves across the country to become a mail order bride. Phillip needs a woman to help with his sister, who he is raising. When he orders a mail order bride, he never expected to feel anything for her, especially since he does not trust easily. He was shocked when he felt the stirrings of awareness for Amelia. Can they survive her past and make a future together? A great story. I definitely recommend it.
