Once upon a time, the immortal vampire Artegon fell in love with a human. That love was fervently returned and for that gentle sin, the young man was burned at the stake. Many hundreds of years later, in a new life and a new body, he has forgotten all about his demon lover… but Artegon has not forgotten him and when the Blood Moon rises, he will claim his bride anew.
Amelita Rae took a wrong turn on the internet one day. All the innocent young lass wanted to do was watch funny cat videos, but then she discovered Boy's Love and that was the end of any worthwhile contribution she might have otherwise made to the world.
She now spends most of her time writing filthy smut that she tries to frame with farfetched plots and deranged characters, but don't be fooled by her bullshit people, its all just smut.
That one actually worked for me. The story in itself was quite sweet and was told in a very fairytale way, which I liked. It was very short as well, which I think worked with this story.
The sex wasn't overdone, that being said, the small blonde does get fucked by thornless magic roses and blood is used as lubricant (but he's a vampire so it's ok :-/). I don't know, it still wasn't super hot but I wasn't cringing so that's something.
This one started off SO GOOD! Then it just went down hill...
Why?
RAPE.
Yes, you read that right. Rape. There was no warning of it, no suggestion of non-con or dub-con, so it totally took me by surprise.
I was loving the story! It had Amelita's awesome storytelling, great writing style, and an intriguing supernatural plot, with a vampire and a young human who had no idea he was that vampire's soul mate, who had been killed and taken from him so many hundred years ago. It was all going so well...then Argeton basically captured Ciaran in the tomb, refusing to let him leave. He offered no explanation other than he "had to hurt him", because it was "necessary"...then he flat out raped him. And, worse, Ciaran at this point had sounded pretty much like a late-teen 18 or 19 yo, but is described in the rape scene as "childish".
I suffered reading that much, in the hope that it would get better, but then Ciaran miraculously got his memories back through the "sacrifice of virgin blood" (I'm sure there was a better way than raping him!) and suddenly the kid who loved roses so much was being raped by the roses.
All this happened around the 70% mark, quite quickly in terms of it all happened within one or two pages of each other, and that was the end for me. I couldn't finish it, not even to find out what the outcome was. I loved the premise, but there is no romance in an immortal using rape as a way to bring back someone's memories. A bite? Perfectly fine. Consensual sex? Okay. But telling a kid that you HAVE to rape him for his own good is just all kinds of twisted.
This was kind of cute. But make no mistake, this is a dark story, yet told more like a sweet fairy tale. The sex goes from rape to mystical supernatural fantastic monster sex. It's quite nice, but also felt a little not ok to me. I think you should keep in mind that this is a paranormal story. Oh, and then there are long teeth and quite a lot of blood. So aside from the fairy tale storytelling, there is no light here, only darkness. 🖤🖤🖤
“You were never the Devil’s whore, Ciaran, you were his bride. MY bride. Loved and adored, above all, for the rest of time.” - I would have liked a bit more of this to create a better balance.
In the 1700s, Artegon’s lover was tortured and killed but not before Artegon cast a spell to save his soul. 300 years later, Ciaran, a lonely and ostracised young man is drawn to a crypt on the night of the blood moon.
This was very promising but unfortunately too short to really satisfy. It did have some elements I really enjoy and some that...I'll just say that no, thank you, I would not like to be bitten there and let's leave it at that.
Story was pushed way to fast. This had potential to be a real book but instead feels like the author wrote down some ideas and just published them. Could have been a really nice book but was abandon.
This was dumb, and a little silly. It honestly reads like a bad fanfiction based on some early 2000s Shonen Jump anime that takes itself WAY too seriously and should have never been published. That sounds harsh but as this author grossly fetishizes gay men, I get to be mean.
Every single book by this author is the same. And as I have DNFed 5 now, I would know. The setting and situation may change but it always centers around some 18-year-old blond twink who is just so beautiful but doesn't know it, and somehow manages to catch the eye of some rich hot black haired hunk. The boy is always the same. Meek, small, a little dumb but nice. The top as a little more versatility. Sometimes he's a ghost, other times he's an inmate. In this case, he was a vampire demon hybrid. Yet still strong and somehow rich(?).
Please tell me you know where I'm going with this?
Look, I acknowledge that once upon a time, this was fine. And I'm ashamed to say 13 year old me probably would have been into this. But the thing is, it is not the early 2000's anymore (I don't care what the publication date is, these were clearly written before then). These books haven't aged well. In fact, the only reason why I'm not giving this garbage one star is because it's a product of its time. Who knew we as a species would have come so far.
And to be fair, this little short wasn't that bad. I mean I still don't fully understand what happened. A lot was said but nothing was explained if that makes sense. Overall, the idea was fine but the writing was beyond cheesy, and not in a way that is endearing, but in a way that is just...bad. When he turned the lilies into roses I kept thinking of that Old Spice commercial where the guy goes "look again, the tickets are now diamonds!" yet nowhere near as charming.
And that pretty much sums up these books. On their own, they're not the worst, but as a whole, it's pretty gross what's going on here. 2 stars because fetishization is gross and never sexy.
¿Perdona?
I've read quite a few of this author's works, and although this was good... it wasn't her best. No character or substantial world building- which made it hard to get involved with the story. Still very well done, but if this is your first read of this authors work, try reading a different one first. This does not accurately represent her skill as an author.
Amelita Rae has some of the spiciest, swoon worthy books I’ve ever read. I don’t care how racy or short they are, they’re just that good. Well, I’m obviously they’re so good I don’t want them to end, but all good things must come to an end. Rae and her worlds definitely need more attention, give her son love y’all!!!
3 stars. Very cool concept and a unique plot but the short length of this does either of those things justice. This needed to be full length so that we could get more backstory and history between Artegon and Ciaran. But for what it is it's an interesting novella with great atmosphere and mood.
It started great and then there is a scene with non-con (rape) which I usually avoid because I hate them but here it strangely worked. It was like that was necessary and couldn't go any other way, I know sounds ridiculous. But it was good for me.

finding ones love after they have passed on. Immortal Artegon, saw his love die at the hands of the villagers and held his body until it was no more. After using magic, he awaits the reincarnation of his love.
Told never to go out during a blood moon by his grandmother, Cairan is facing his first blood moon without her.
He decides to put flowers on her grave. Both of them were ostracized by the villagers, now without family, he is desperately lonely. He sees no end to the loneliness until he is pulled to Artegon.
They discover much about each other and start a new life.
I didn't really find this story dark. The characters are well written, you get a good history and future in such a short story.
The only drawback was that it was too short. You wanted to dive into their future but just get a glimpse. Fantastic idea and story. One I have not come across before.
Artegon’s beloved was taken from him and burned at the stake by the clergy. Three hundred years ago.
In present day, Ciaran sees a blood moon. His grandmother was fixated on the blood moons, and the lore associated with them.
Ciaran suddenly gets the urge to visit her grave. Fortunately, they basically buried Granny out back, so he gathers some flowers and heads up to her grave.
We learn that Ciaran is living as an outcast. His grandmother was a witch, and his small village hates him.
The author writes some wild and crazy vampires, and this book is no exception.
She also endeavors to find interesting ways to probe and prep guys.
Unusual take on fated mates...dark, bloody, violent, disturbing, sexy.
Really cool HEA—and there’s some sweet revenge lined up for the priests.
Exchanging blood for them was the same as exchanging a vow.
Far too short tale of eternal love separated only briefly by death with a sort of devil/vampire twist and a hint of serious retribution to come at the end. There's an element of noncon but it's within the context of what happens immediately after so doesn't feel like it's close to being an incident of abuse or a resembles an atypical noncon in my opinion.
