Randi doesn’t take herself seriously, and neither should you. Depending on the day, she’ll claim to be a beach girl (not a lie, that’s where she grew up) or a little too country (not really a lie either, she lives in Kentucky). She’s a perfectionist (a blessing and a curse), a little bit obsessive-compulsive about grammar, a lot neurotic about stupid things like eating cake, and is too sarcastic for her own good. She has too many dogs, a handful of cats, and a kid to keep her busy. She’d much rather be curled up with a dog, a book, and a glass of Moscato than going out and doing stuff because introverting is cool. (And adulting is not.)

She refuses to stay in her own damn lane, writing some contemporary romance and some paranormal romance (but her favorite to write is PNR). She’s the author of All the Wrong Places (Melange Books), a full-length contemporary novel, and contemporary romance novellas, Spar, (Moirae Publishing) and Anticipating Temptation (Melange Books). She also wrote a PNR trilogy, a gay romance novella, and had short stories published in anthologies that are all now out of print. (Good things don’t last forever.)

Was given this book with the promise of a honest review.

What a book and what a story, Michael and Gabriel 2 heavenly bound Angels who watch over Earth bound Angels, the earth bound Angels all have different duties, which they are given when they become Angels, Sara and Cheryl are such Angels. Sara's job is to touch and hold hands of the humans that are about to die and take them to where they will be judges, she is the one that makes the transition from life to death easier for us. Cheryl protects and can save lives.
Destin is human and falling for his Angel Sara, the trip they take is so sweet, what it took for them to admit they are in love and still they go through a lot before, well there is more to it.
This was a story that flowed like a gentle river and took my mind to explore the possibilities, truly a remarkable story. Thank you for a wonderful trip Randi Perrin...

Sera is an angel of death and owner/operator of a pastry shop. Destin is a bad boy food critic who just happens to trash Sera's shop in his review ... and then, make her fall desperately in love with him. Virtue of Death is filled with tension, laughter, and sex. Sera's struggle to live her life as an angel while trying to accept her humanity and affection for Destin is a difficult battle, considering Destin is a freaking dreamboat. I was impressed not only with Perrin's plot but with her sense of humor and descriptions--whether they be beautiful or horrible (especially where demons were involved). This is such a brilliant take on angels among us that proves love is the ultimate equalizer, divine being or not. (Did I mention Destin is a dream? Sigh ...)

Reviewed on behalf of 2 Girls Who Love Books Blog.
This book is a standalone with a HEA, even though I hope we get to see more of those wonderful characters the author has brought to us.
The writing is excellent, even though in the beginning a little bit too rushed, but that ends when the real plot starts. I promise you, you won’t be able to put this gem down. The plot itself is clear, no questions are left open, even though some things could have been described better, but I never had the feeling that I missed out on information. Even though it was an ARC I couldn’t find any mistakes which means for me that the author is really accurate in her work. You experience this through the whole story and it made me want to read slower so that I could keep the characters a bit longer with me, but no such luck. The story had an end (of course it did) and it was great.
While reading Virtue of Death I posted in the blog group that I am lacking the words to describe the story. The only word I could come up with was. Beautiful. But even that is not enough to express the feels that grabbed me during this story. More than once I had tears in my eyes, because it was just beautiful. Angelic. Wonderful. Take whatever word suits you best, but be sure that none of them can even come close to describing the feelings that you are going to have while reading this book. Just to make sure that you understand what I mean. I never once cried ugly tears while reading this book, no. The tears that I cried were tears you cry when you see something almost otherworldly beautiful, like a newborn foal that stands on its own legs only minutes after being born. You can’t stop the tears in moments like this and you don’t want to. Just like I didn’t want to stop the tears of joy that I cried while reading Sera’s and Destin’s story. Believe me, read this book. You won’t regret it.

Sera has two jobs, during the day she is a Baker with her own shop. The other is as an angel of death. She has to take the souls of the dying to heaven before the demons get them. Her best friend Cheryl is also an angel but has a different job. She can save lives. Their favourite part of the job however is flying.
Destin is a journalist and food critic. He has been given some pastries to review. Little does he know what that review will start. It will change his life forever.
A story absolutely overflowing with love. A friendship strong enough to survive anything heaven can throw at them, and romantic love that is worth any sacrifice. An amusing and slightly sexy read. Its good to see the females being the ones with extra power. I enjoyed it.

This book was just okay for me. A very different story line and not one that I would normally pick up, but it intrigued me. While this book is technically a paranormal book, I was pleased that this was not the primary focus by the author. Instead the author focused on the development of the characters and the plot of the story.

Loved the comedy and the banter between the characters, especially loved that this comedy and banter was not just limited to the main characters of the story. At times I found myself wanting more and more from a few of the "non supporting" characters. Hopefully we'll see a spin off of some of those characters.

If you love a good paranormal/angel book this is for you!

Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin a great five-star read. This is the first book in the first book in the Earth-bound Angels series. I have honestly had this book on my TBR pile for ages, I kept thinking it was one I wanted to read, but never could find the time. Then my book buddie was raving on about the second book and kept telling me off that I hadn’t picked this series up yet, she swore when I admitted how long it’s been on my TBR pile!! I am so gutted I didn’t start this a while ago!! It was amazing. Bring on book two!!
When Sera Moore life changed at 18, she became an Angel and it set her on a course that hasn’t given her much happiness, but it did forge a life-long friendship with her bestie Cheryl who also happens to be an angel. Some twelve years later she has got her own business a successful bakery, the only negative in her successful business is a food critic who doesn’t take a hint, will he be the one to change her luck? Or will bestie Cheryl’s scowl be enough to scare him off.

Sera is an earthbound angel who runs a bakery by day and collects souls at night. She is an angel of death, a reaper. She was chosen on her 18th birthday by the archangel Michael. She has her best friend, Cheryl, by her side, who is also an angel, but where in Sera is an angel of death, Cheryl is an angel of mercy. The relationship between these two is amazing. No one could ask for better friends in each other. Their loyalty and love for one another is unwavering.

Destin meets Sera at his best friend's wedding, which Sera catered. Once Destin sets his sights on Sera, he must get to know her. Unfortunately, He didn't get much of an opportunity at the wedding. However, fate had other plans. Turns out Destin is a food critic and happened to review Sera's bakery, Heaven on Atlantic, not knowing who she was, other than a name when they met briefly at the wedding. After Sera reads Destin's review, she tries distracting herself with baking, which is usually therapeutic for her, but instead she finds herself at the newspaper where Destin to give this critic a piece of her mind. Sera sees Destin wondering what the guy from the wedding is doing there. Once the receptionist informs Destin that Sera is there to see him, she realizes that he is the critic that wrote the not so favorable review of her bakery.

After making a bit of a scene in the lobby, Destin convinces Sera to go to a coffee shop to discuss things further. After a little back and forth, Destin has the crazy notion to kiss Sera...something he wanted to do since seeing her at the wedding. She storms off and from that point Destin is determined to set things right.

Destin decides to pay a visit to Sera's bakery and as much as Sera wants to hate him, she finds him actually quite charming, and that he seems knows what he is doing in the kitchen. Soon enough, he becomes a fixture at the bakery. There are times that Destin wants to spend more time with Sera, outside of the bakery, however, she tells him that she has a night job and he finds it strange how secretive she is about it. Eventually things become strained and Sera fears that she will lose Destin, but she isn't sure how to tell Destin that she is an angel of death. The last man she dated and confided her secret to thought she was crazy. She was incredibly hurt by that and since then promised herself she wouldn't never let anyone else on her secret ever again.

Will Destin be able to look past the fact that Sera refuses to open up about this double life she is leading? Will Sera be able to trust Destin with her most precious secret?

The author did a fantastic job of developing these characters. I especially enjoyed Sera's best friend, Cheryl. I know this is a standalone book, but I sure hope this girl gets her own story. Something tells me it will be quite a journey. The one thing I wish the author would have focused more on was the paranormal aspect of the story. It was more romance than paranormal. I am a huge fan of stories dealing with angels or fallen angels. I would have liked to have seen more of that. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the characters and the overall story. Great read!

Virtue of Death is a paranormal romance by Randi Perrin that sweeps us into the world of Angels and their Demonic counterparts.
Sera, is a thirty year old successful baker and owner of a charming oceanfront pastry shop. She appears to be a normal human on the surface, but is in fact an ‘Earth Bound’ Angel- specifically, an Angel of Death. Sera received her wings and divine powers on her 18th birthday. It is her duty to collect the souls of the moribund, holding their hand while they ‘pass over’ and then escorting them to their ‘Final Judgement’. Her services are in high demand. Along with her best friend Cheryl who is also an ‘Earth Bound’ Angel (an Angel of Mercy), they run the bakery during the day and perform their Angel duties at night. This doesn’t leave room for a social life, much less a romantic relationship.
Destin is a reporter and food critic working for the local newspaper. After Destin delivers a particularly negative review about Sera’s bakery, she storms into his office and angrily confronts him about it. But Destin is so charming and attentive (not to mention devastatingly handsome) that Sera can’t seem to stay angry with him for long. Destin is fascinated with Sera from the moment he laid his eyes on her, she is unlike any woman he has ever met before. He finds himself wanting to spend as much time with her as possible, even if that means helping out in the kitchen at her bakery.
Sera realises that she is falling for the endearing bad boy, but can she trust him with her huge secret? A past betrayal still devastates her, so would Destin accept her if he knew the truth? Although Destin is enchanted by Sera, he can’t help but wonder why she is so secretive and where does she disappear to every single night? She seems to be leading a double life and he is becoming suspicious that Sera may be involved in some sort of criminal activity.
Sera’s life starts to spiral out of control when demons start tormenting her, sabotaging her angelic duties and trying to “turn” her and then Destin is offered a job promotion that involves him moving interstate. Her perfectly ordered life is crumbling around her.
Ms. Perrin has managed to write a truly delightful story that explores angel and demon mythology, with her own unique approach. As such, “Virtue of Death” has a captivating and fresh perspective that I have not read before. I really enjoyed the book and found it sweet, passionate and sexy- with unexpected moments that kept me captivated. The whole story flowed extremely well and I found myself eagerly turning the pages to discover what would happen next.
This book is a standalone with a H.E.A.

Are you in the mood for a paranormal romance that will make you wish Angels were real AND will inspire you to bake things? If so, then Randi Perrin's VIRTUE OF DEATH is absolutely for you.

The first book in Perrin's Earthbound Angels series is a fun read that would be perfect for poolside or a lazy afternoon. I devoured it on a recent road trip, and it's delicious escapism.

By day, Sera is a culinary school graduate who runs a bakery in Virginia Beach. By night, she and her best friend Cheryl are angels. Sera helps the dying cross over to judgement, and Cheryl can work miracles. It's working out just heavenly. Then along comes Destin, a sexy food critic, and it all goes to hell. (Forgive me the heaven and hell pun, please. I couldn't resist!) Because she's smart and she's been burned before, Sera keeps her Angel-identity a secret, but soon their relationship is put through the wringer. It's a story of faith and love and sex and baked goods, and I (again with the puns!) ate it up.

Reading VIRTUE OF DEATH reminded me of the first time I watched HBO's True Blood. Stick with me, for I mean this as a compliment. The characters Perrin has created--much like Sookie and Bill and the rest of the citizens of Bon Temps--are all immediately vivid and likable. They're ordinary people in a world where extraordinary things/creatures exist . I was struck by the realization that Sera and Destin's world is already well-developed and full of stories of other angels and their lives/loves/battles to be told.

By the by, I am all in if Cheryl gets her own book down the line. I'm putting that out there right now. I look forward to seeing where the rest of the series goes!

VIRTUE OF DEATH
AUTHOR: RANDI PERRIN

FIVE STARS

VIRTUE OF DEATH is Randi Perrin’s debut novel. Randi is a paranormal author and based on her first book I think she has a very bright future ahead of her. Paranormal is not a genre I normally read, but Randi’s writing is superb and she drew me into this story from the first page. VIRTUE OF DEATH is a paranormal romance that is not only amusing, but also quick-witted and delightful.

Sera was attending culinary school to fulfill her lifelong dream, when BAM! She was chosen to be an angel of death. So now she is a baker by day and an angel by night. Sera is responsible for taking the souls of those that die to heaven for their judgment day and make it as easy as she can on them. Her best friend, Cheryl, is also an angel, but she is an angel of mercy. Her job is much more pleasant. She saves lives. Sera and Cheryl are extremely close and trust each other immensely. The one perk of their job is being able to fly.

Sera does not get involved with men because as soon as they find out about her moonlighting job, the relationship seems to fizzle out. Not hard to figure that out. Destin is a food critic and he had the nerve to write a bad review of Sera’s cookies. She is furious and decides to confront him. She definitely wasn’t ready for the attraction she felt when they met. He is so handsome and charming. Sera feels the passion between them and wonders if she should take the risk.

Will Destin turn and run when he discovers Sera’s secret?
One-click this great story today! I highly recommend it.

I received a free copy for an honest review

I was really torn trying to decide whether to give this book four stars or three and a half stars. I really liked this book! Sera and Destin were so cute, but I still ended up giving it three/half. Although this book was really well written and was a very enjoyable read in general, It lacks a real conflict/arc for the story and is more of an contemporary romance than actual paranormal because of its pace and plot. Not mainly because it's bad (because that's not the case at all), but because it kind of lacks 'paranormal book characteristics', and I wish I can see that in further series.

One thing though, roamed through my head constantly while reading while reading this book:

The. Book. Is. So. Chill.

Seriously, it's so relaxing. There are so many times when I'm reading the book that I completely forgot our protagonist Sera is an angel because everything is so...normal. Only because the author periodically got Sera to 'work' (retrieve souls as a death angel), I wasn't able to forget that for long. Despite its relaxing plot-line, it is distinctly not a slow book. It's not boring at all, and I continued the book without the desire of clawing my eyes out in boredom. But it really is so relaxing.

Because I'm personally enjoying the chill atmosphere, I really relished the book. But I can see how other readers might not like this book though. The distinct characteristics that make paranormal books paranormal is the enjoyment of discovering new powers, vampires, angels, slightly gothy stuff, exciting story lines, and occasionally hate/love relationships (with a few bad-ass fight scenes. Also, the run on sentence here is real. *deep inhale of breath after saying this all in one breath*). But this book is really relaxing (I need to stop saying relaxing) and has little to no action scenes (except maybe with the demon and angel stuff). There is no 'real' conflict, and if there is an arc conflict setting up for the series, it's not exactly that obvious. The little problems we see in the book is really minor, resulting it to be easily solved (and not that problematic in general). However, that does not mean the author cannot step up a notch in the next book and make the problems and conflict more problematic and serious. Basically, all this made this book really different from the genre it's supposedly writing in.

Now, if I'm in the craving for one of those classic paranormal books, yes I won't like or enjoy this book half as much as I do now. But when you just want a simple relaxing romance that is set in a paranormal world (although it's not so paranormal) for you to read and unwind, then this book can be a good break for your brain.

Because when every single book has nerve cracking stress levels, and when we read books with the purpose to reduce our stress...you're going to watch the news one day and see someone dying of cardiac arrest while reading a book.

I liked Sera. The author didn't overdo her with her characteristics so she's a girl with a spine, but at the same time she's not annoying and agonizing with all her 'feistiness' and whatnot. Not to add on her cooking scenes are amazing. Either our author here is a baker herself or she has one hell of an imagination. Every time I read this book I get a craving for sweets, and I learned the hard way not to read this book with an empty stomach (especially if you're on a diet -_-). However, the one thing that really got on my nerve is that Sera is a huge crybaby. Tearful moments in books are common, and if done well and correctly it can not only make the readers cry as well, but show us the true depths of the characters. Sera though...that girl's eyes tear up every. Fricking. Time. Like, if anything that is 'bad' happens (bad is so lame but I really can't think of a better word), her eyes becomes watery. Just like clockwork. It's actually kind of annoying. Because there are a few scenes where the tears came in a reasonable situation, 80% of those scenes can be cut out and it can make the book so much better and perfect Sera's character more. On the bright side though, this can be used as a perfect opportunity for character development. Maybe in the second book through this we can see how she turned stronger and tougher, and grow as a character.

The romance is also really, really, smooth and relaxing. It's the main reason the story is so chill. There are little problems here and there, but ultimately there's no the 'big conflict' that needs to be solved. Usually in other paranormal romance books, the big conflicts are either some sort of forbidden love situation, or a real hate/love relationship. Often both. So our little Destin here started off as the classic, perfect edition of a dick-faced f**k boy with a charming smile that works like a charm. For a period of 5 pages. Okay, I'm exaggerating, at least 2 chapters. Because of this, the book officially fell in my category of "Hate/love relationships that was over before it begun". And then there's the brief triangle love between our dominion Archangel Michael and Destin, which was really cute and entertaining.

Overall, this book did not lack so much story that it becomes boring, and one of those books that only has tearful and gaggy lovely-do moments. There are still problems, obstacles in the way between the ultimate goal (which is Destin and Sera's relationship), such as the Chicago long-distance-relationship thingie and the demon issue. Triangle love is intact (for anyone who likes that), and our characters (thankfully) are not annoying but at the same time are characters with their own distinct layers and characteristics, and are not sacks of potatoes and dried tomatoes. Although I only gave this book three and a half stars, this was still a really fun, enjoyable book to read with moments that made me want to gag, but cry as well (not all the tearful moments were useless). I honestly really liked this book.

P.S When I'm reviewing this book, all I can think of is Destin reviewing Sera's pastry. For some reason it always makes me laugh XD.

I loved this book! It was fantastic. Paranormal /love story, which I started and finished in one day because I just couldn't put it down. If you enjoy paranormal, then you'll love this story. It was beautifully written and a very easy read , most certainly this author will be added to my list of authors I love. I don't feel there was any suspense moments in this story but it did stir several emotions within me. The story follows Sera , an angel and Destin, a food critic and the way their paths cross and how their love unfolds for each other. However Sera has a secret. A big big secret. Will their love be enough for Destin? Can he overlook the big secret? A secret that threatens to ruin their relationship but can also ruin it, if never disclosed?
This is a standalone book and I am always upset that books I've really enjoyed don't have a series. I would love to continue reading about Sera and Destin.

I received a copy in return for an honest review. Give me something Paranormal and oh yeah baby that is up for a read quick smart, so when I was offered the chance to read Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin, I could't say no. Especially since this was a book that had Angels in it, something that isn't seen that often within the paranormal genre. This is a stand alone novel but I do hope that Randi writes more within this world I really do, her writing is not only creative but also vivid and her story line flows as smooth as can be. The interaction between Sera and Destin is awesome and the chemistry, well I will leave that one a mystery. You'll have to grab the book to find out how the sparks fly between these two. Great work Randi and look forward to reading more from you in the future.

At eighteen, Sera Moore chose to go to culinary school while a higher power selected her to become an angel, specifically, an angel of death.

Now, twelve years later, Sera’s a successful baker during the day and performs her angelic duties at night. The only thing missing in her life is a man, but the last thing she wants is to fall head over wings in love. It seems her relationships are unable to survive once she reveals her night time activities, so it’s easier to not even bother.

But when a tenacious food critic won't take a hint, can Sera lower her wings long enough to risk her heart one more time?

Firstly the cover is stunning though it is not something that I would buy on a whim. I have never been a major fan of people on covers. I have just never had a good experience with books with those kinds of books. This one however was not something I had to worry about liking.
Perrin brings to life a wonderful story about loss; love and a touch of miracles. Definitely not what I expected in a contemporary romance story. I enjoyed how Sera Moore had to try and maintain a relationship all while playing the angel of death and claiming soul in her town. The thing I enjoyed most about this story was twofold. Firstly; I loved the fact that Sera was a baker and that Perrin so aptly described how she baked. The food in this book was enough to make me make a batch of brownies to eat while I read. Everything she wrote about was so well described that I could practically taste the Angel Wings melting in my mouth. The second was the diversity of the characters personalities. Certainly not your run of the mill characters but definitely believable ones. I loved the contrast between Sera and Cheryl as well as the contrast of their jobs. I would have expected them to have opposite positions based on their personalities but in a way I can see why Perrin did it that way – because it fits well into the story. I also love Destin because for me he was the character who went through the most development in the story.

The only thing that I didn’t like about the book is that the romance and feelings between Destin and Sera seemed to develop a little too fast to be believable however I have to admit that Perrin has got an excellent notion on what romantic is! This however is just my opinion because I generally don’t believe love blossoms that quickly. If you are a hopeless romantic however this story is definitely for you.

Overall it was a good book – especially since I struggled to put it down because I needed to know what was happening. I would gladly recommend this book to any lover of romance stories.

Virtue of Death is Book 1 of three books in the Earthbound Angels Series. It is a paranormal romance between Sera Moore and Destin Waters and the impact it has on not only their own lives but the lives of those closest to them.
Against her parents’ wishes and much to their disappointment eighteen year old Sera elects to go to culinary school. Unbeknown to them all a much higher authority has chosen Sera to become an angel: not just any angel but an angel of death. By the time her thirtieth birthday comes along she is a successful baker (with her own business) during the day and an angel at night. She has had love affairs but they always end up with her being hurt or being admitted to psychiatric care. Self- preservation means she doesn’t date, trust or love easily. When Destin Waters (a well-respected reporter) crosses her path with a less than favourable review on her bakery she struggles to keep her secrets and desires to herself.
As their relationship develops, Sera’s best friend Cheryl (also an angel) and her ‘boss’ the Archangel Michael find their lives changing too as a result of their growing love for each other. Can there really be a HEA?
Randi Perrin’s idea of an angel of death appearing as your life is ending so that you are not alone when you die is a unique one along with the idea of angels working in pairs, one being a ‘miracle worker’ angel and the other being a death angel. Her characters were well developed, multi-dimensional and very likeable as both humans and angels. The idea too that there is a hierarchy of angels with the lower ranking angels being subject to following the rules, regulations and punishments set by other higher ranking angels is respectful of many religious points of view.
Virtue of Death was an easy book to read. It moved at a steady (sometimes fast) pace with something happening all the time to keep you turning the pages. I read this in about three sittings, an ideal choice for holiday reading. I am looking forward to reading the next two books in the series.

Virtue of Death
Author Randi Perrin
5 Stars

Sera:
An earthbound angel who helps the dying to home, but for this to happen they need to take her hand, if they don’t the demons will come for the dying and there is nothing Sera can do to stop it. Sera became an earthbound angel when she was tapped at the age of eighteen. The worst case she has ever had was bringing her parents’ home after they were killed in a car accident. Apart from her angel duties Sera owned a bakery. She loved cooking ever since she saw a television program with her idol Marielle Dufor. Marielle Dufor would come to play a big part in her life with ties she wouldn’t believe.

Destin:
First saw Sera when she was serving food at his friend Kristian’s wedding. He was quite taken with her. Kristian tells Destin to stay away from her as she is crazy. But Destin thinks crazy could be good. Destin is a reporter and his next column which is due in twenty-six hours in on Sera’s bakery Heaven on Atlanta. While he thought the food was good it wasn’t like his mothers and he labelled it banal. This comment would later have a wrath of fury come his way from Sera. The more she told him what she thought of his comment the more he knew he wanted her. Destin had to find a way to get to know her, so every night after work he would drop by her bakery hoping to make it just that much closer to her.
Cheryl:
Was also tapped at eighteen to become an earth-bound angel. Cheryl and Sera couldn’t be any different and that’s why their friendship was probably as strong as it was. Cheryl wears her make up goth style which later would have Destin refer to her as goth girl, for the longest time there was no love lost between her and Destin. Cheryl had a great love of art and had planned sometime in her life to tour Europe and visit the art museums. Her love of art annoyed her father. It took twelve years for Cheryl and Sera to me sent out on their angel duties and they made a good team.
But being best friends and a good team would that be a danger for them?

Randi Perrin has written a little gem with this paranormal romance Virtue by Death. This angelic story is well written and is a romantic story with a twist and is a happily ever after. It is a standalone book but I wonder if Randi has more of those quirky, sassy and yet sweet characters in store for us?

Sera owns her own shop and has always loved baking. By day she is a lover of baking but at night she is the Angel of Death. Sera loves both jobs, but lately she has to fight demons to get to the souls of the dying to heaven before they get to them. Sera also loves her best friend and fellow angel, Cheryl, whom you will adore. Where Sera is sweet and sugary, Cheryl is all sorts of sass and snark but they complement each other beautifully. Even though Cheryl is an angel, she is a different type of angel to Sera, she can save lives. Both take their angelic jobs seriously and adhere to the rules religiously.

Journalist and food critic, Destin, is given baked goods to review for his job and little does he know that this one review will change his life forever. Destin writes his review for a shop that sells baked goods but after reading the review the owner, Sera, can not believe what she reads and decides to give him a piece of her mind.

Will Sera open up about her secret? Will Destin be the one she trusts? Will Destin believe in Sera? Will Destin or Heaven be the one to break her heart? Can Sera forgive and move on? Will Sera be destroyed by the demons or will she eventually outsmart them?

This story is full of friendships and love. We learn that true love is worth any sacrifice and because of this, the strength of the girls friendship is tested when Heaven throws a curve ball their way. I love the banter between Cheryl and Destin which ensures just the right amount of humour when things get a little tense or down. I enjoyed the plot and as well as the sense of humour. This is one book not to be missed.

Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin is a sweet paranormal romance.

Sera is an angel, and has been since she was eighteen. Along with Cheryl her best friend they have both have special powers and certain duties they attend to. Sera also runs a bakery and after a not so nice review in the paper on her food, she hunts down the man who wrote the review. This is when she meets Destin. She can’t seem to shake is advances towards her and realizes she might have feelings for him after all.

Destin meets Sera at his best friend’s wedding while she is the caterer. He is immediately taken with her and tries to ask her on a date, but is shot down. After writing a review for her bakery (which he didn’t know was hers) he has to confront a screaming woman in his office. He then realizes she is the same person from the night before at the wedding and will stop at nothing to make her his.

Along the way, because of Sera’s duties as an angel, she has to leave him quite frequently during the night and in the middle of dates. One night during a date, she has to abruptly leave to tend to some people who are dying and accidently leaves something of hers behind. Destin finds out and assumes she is a criminal and decides to end things with her for good.

Will Sera be able to convince Destin that she is not a criminal or dangerous without spilling her secret life? Will Destin believe what he is told when a confession is the only way to piece back together their broken relationship?

This book was great, I liked the characters, and for some reason I like when there is some big secret that comes to light, and then one of the two is heartbroken and then they have to deal with the fall out. I am not sure why but it is so sweet to me to see the end results. This book is definitely a 5 out 5 stars, and I kind of hope we get to see a book on Cheryl.

Virtue of Death- Randi Perrin

5 out of 5 stars

I absolutely loved Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin. It is book 1 in the Earthbound Angels series and it was even better then I imagined it would be. It’s beautifully written and I really liked the characters, both main and supporting. I found them to complement the storyline really well. From the very beginning I was intrigued by Sera and Cheryl, as I had never read a book quite like this one and they did not disappoint. The idea of earthbound angels is brilliant and it was executed perfectly.

Book 1 follows Sera Moore, an earthbound angel. On her 18th birthday she was blessed with wings and the power to help people transition to death, quite the daunting task but she hasn’t taken the past 10 years for granted. Being an angel has its challenges, the sleepless nights, the traumatizing scenes, and relationships are almost non-existent. Questions are always left unanswered as to where Sera runs off too daily. In the past she has trusted her secret with one person and she instantly regretted it. Now years later she remains guarded and hesitant to enter into relationships. Then Destin enters her life completely throwing her off. She starts to question whether she can trust him with her secret the more she gets to know him. Will he be accepting of her or will he think she’s out of her mind?

I fell in love with Destin from his very first appearance; he was the perfect package and the best possible match for Sera. They really clicked and I loved getting to read their story. This book has the perfect amount of drama, humour, darkness, and love. It was a well-rounded story that I will absolutely reread, it has definitely been added to my list of favourites. I honestly can’t wait to read Promises of Virtue, book 2, to read Cheryl’s story! This is a book you won’t want to miss!

Virtue of Death (Earthbound Angels Book 1) by Randi Perrin

5 Stars

Sera Moore was chosen at the age of 18 by the higher power to become an angel. Not just any kind of angel, she became the angel of death. She also chose to follow her dreams and attended culinary school. Now 12 years later she owns her own successful bakery, Heaven on Atlantic. She bakes during the day and fulfills her angel duties at night. She feels like she has it all, except for the one thing she would really like and that's a man. Problem is she has no luck with love especially when she trusts someone enough to reveal her secret and they call her crazy and walk away. So she figures it's easier just to stay single. Until she caters a wedding and meets Destin.

Destin Waters, a food critic, catches sight of Sera at a friends wedding and can't get her off his mind. After trying some baked goods that his boss brought, he does a review of the bakery, giving it a B rating. He gets a chance to meet Sera again when she confronts him about his review. He does all he can to break down her walls and as he does and she begins to trust him, he reacts like all the rest when she reveals her secret angel life. When something happens and realizes he was wrong can he convince Sera that he is the man for her? Will she forgive him? When tragedy strikes and threatens to change everything, can these two make it through or does fate step in, making the decision for them?

I really liked this book, I loved the story, the characters, and the flow. I'll admit the title made me think this book was going to be something totally different, I am so glad I went ahead and read it. Don't let the title throw you off from reading this book. It was amazing!! This is my first book by this author and know it won't be my last. I can't wait to read the next one about Sera’s best friend, Cheryl.

Randi Perrin’s Virtue of Death tells the story of an angel falling in love, despite her better judgement. Sera is an angel of death by night and a baker by day, and Destin is a food journalist, so this book is full of wonderfully detailed food descriptions. I was getting hungry just reading it! And Perrin uses the food to tell stories, focusing on the memories it evokes and how people communicate through food.

At the start of the book, I was worried that I wasn’t going to connect with the characters - they all seemed fairly stereotypical and one-dimensional. However, they all develop a fair bit as the story progresses and are, for the most part, quite loveable. The story alternates between Sera and Destin’s perspectives, which helps the reader understand and relate to both of their reactions and choices. I wish we’d had something from the perspective of Cheryl, Sera’s best friend, as well. Fortunately, the next book in the series will be about what happens to her next!

Virtue of Death is a really enjoyable read. The paranormal elements are well explained and have their own plot arc which intertwines with the love story. There are a few aspects of it which seem a little odd and could perhaps do with more backstory to support them and make them more convincing, but for the most part the paranormal side is well developed. There is a strong focus on friendship as well as romance which adds dimensions to the characters and the story. Cheryl is a very important character to the plot, and Destin’s old school friends are catalysts for key developments. Perrin’s use of sensory descriptions for food, sex, settings and more makes it an immersive book. I found it hard to put down!

I give this book four stars. Can’t wait for the next one!

Sera Moore is the owner of the bakery Heaven on Atlantic and also an Angel of death. She bakes during the day and at night she helps people bridge the gap between life and death. With her 'job' she is unable to have a normal relationship as she constantly has to leave in the middle of the evening to perform her duties.

Destin Waters is a food critic and spots Sera at the wedding of his best friend Kristian when she is there catering the event. Little does he know that she owns the bakery Heaven on Atlantic which he does his latest review on. When he asks for a chance to explain the review the two realize how attracted they are to each other but after a kiss Sera leaves.

What will happen when Destin learns the truth about Sera? Will he leave her like everyone else has and will the consequences be higher than anyone could have imagined?

This book wasn't what I was expecting but I did enjoy the read.

Sera and her best friend Cheryl were interesting as they tried to bridge the gap between their two lives and what they were responsible for. I have no idea when the two ladies slept as many nights they seemed to be out and then had to work in the morning.

Sera and Destin had chemistry for sure and I loved the things that unknowingly tied them together. Yet Sera held the truth back from Destin for as long as she could and when she did tell him everything exploded in front of her. There were definitely some huge consequences for everyone's actions.

I think the one thing I didn't care for was Gabriel and how his actions ended up changing everything. On one hand I am happy as now Sera and Cheryl are free to live their lives yet at the same time it really makes Gabriel and everything he stands for so evil. I wish that part had been changed in the book.

Virtue of Death is the first in a series by Randi Perrin. I am giving this book five fabulous stars. What a cute, fun and charming book. I really enjoyed reading this book.
Destin and Charlotte make the perfect couple. They are cute, sexy and so adorable as they go through the inevitable problems that always accompany a great love story. And, theirs truly is a great love story, with a couple of little twists along the way that keep things interesting.
Randi Perrin writes her characters with all of the heart and soul of someone who truly loves her work. Her characters are rich and varied. They jump off the pages and into your heart with surprising alacrity.
In Virtue of Death, Randi Perrin gives a slightly different spin on angels. Her world, like her characters are well thought out and well defined. I really liked the idea of not dieing alone. I have always believed that angels guide us both in life and in death. I thought Randi handled this concept extremely well. She was very respectful of the beliefs of others concerning angels and their possible role in the after world.
Her descriptions of the dilemmas that are faced by her protagonists were very real. It seems that Earth-bound angels are subject to many of the same problems and pressures as the rest of us mere mortals. With just a few more for interest.
In short, I loved this mostly light hearted, sweet-n-sexy romp through the lives of Sera and her best friend Cheryl as they reconciled both sides of their existence. I am really looking forward to reading Cheryls story in the next book by Randi Perrin.

Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin is a uniquely written story that has all the elements of a classic love tale with a twist – a rather deadly twist at that.

Sera is bakery owner by day, Angel of Death by night. Chosen at the age of eighteen to become an earthbound angel her job is to help those who have passed on make the next move to a better place. She enjoys what she does, enjoys the challenge it brings her and wouldn’t dream of having things any other way. Her bakery is doing great as well. Life is good and she couldn’t wish for any more. Enter Destin and his poor review.

Destin never imagined that one review could change his life. But that is exactly what happened when he posted his review about Sera’s bakery. He never expected her to turn up to his workplace to confront him on his words and yet he found himself dealing with a frustrated woman hell-bent on making her feelings known. And by dealing with he definitely means falling for!

“You have my heart in your soul-stealing hands, and I don’t want it back.”

The relationship between them takes them both by surprise. Destin wasn’t looking for a relationship but he was also determined that he wouldn’t be letting Sera go. Sera clings tight to her secret, not daring to trust one more person with the power to tear her apart.

Such a well written book the love aspect and the angel aspect were never in competition with each other. They simply were. One was never far behind the other but neither ever overshadowed what was happening between the characters. Captivating from the start this is a thoroughly enjoyable read.

This is the first book of the Earthbound Angels Series – Virtue of Death. Sera Moore was selected at her eighteenth birthday by a higher power to become an Earthbound Angel and not just any Angel, but an Angel of Death. She helps to take souls on to be judged.
Twelve years later she is a successful chef and bakery shop owner, with a side job at night. But she longs to fall in love but trying to tell someone about her night time activities has already had her labeled as a crazy person and landed her with a trip to the psych ward, so why should she trust anyone and loose her heart to them?
Destin Waters is a food critic for a major paper with aspirations of being one for a big time newspaper. He is trying to live out of the shadows of his famous bakery chef mother who was loved by all. Destin is given samples of Sera’s work, the day after first seeing her catering a wedding he was at. He praises her baking but calls her work banal. When Sera goes to complain about this, sparks fly between them. Will he be able to win her over? Can he handle that she isn’t always around and has to take off at the drop of a hat for things? Can she appreciate the man before her, especially when she finds out he’s the son of her idol?
But more importantly can she trust him with her secret? Would he be able to handle the truth of it all? What would she give up to be with the man that she has fallen in love with? Would she give up being an Earthbound Angel, her wings to be with him?
I give this book a 4 star rating, very well done. Still trying to figure a few things out, hence the 4 but I do look forward to the next book.

Virtue of Death by Randy Perrin
5 Stars

Virtue of Death by Randy Perrin is a paranormal romance but it was very different than others and I absolutely loved it. I loved that it was about angels here on earth and how they are everyday people. Told in Dual POV of the two main characters, it was very easy to follow along and understand each characters feelings in a situation.
Sera is an angel of death. She helps those who are dying, pass onto judgement pain free. She's got beautiful blue wings that match her eyes and when she's got a job to do her wings put out a feeling for her to guide her where to go. During the day, Sera owns and runs a bakery after being inspired by her idol. When Destin Waters, a local food critic, reviews her bakery and publishes it in the paper, Sera decides to give her a piece of her mind. She doesn't expect to fall in love with someone, especially with her secret, but maybe he's different?
Destin Waters works at the local paper and he writes food reviews among other stories. When he writes one about Sera's bakery he doesn't expect a visit from the woman who saw at a wedding and shot his advances down. When she doesn't agree to a date he instead helps her in her bakery. They have a fast romance despite Sera's apprehension, until he starts to question her whereabouts at night. After hearing her her story and getting a visit from someone special, he accepts her story. When things go wrong will love be enough?
I could go on about this story but its best to just read it as its a great read. And I hope to read about Cheryl, Sera's best friend!
