Furry United Coalition #6

Ostrich and the 'Roo

Rate this book
FUC is going down under, so prepare for a wild ride with a ‘roo and the chick he rescues.

Ranger and crypto containment specialist Jaxon Jones has seen some interesting things, but a purported giant ostrich terrorizing suburbia is new, even for him. Especially when he finds the so-called menace, and she’s fast asleep, head buried in a bush. But since Jax was hired to bring the beautiful Mari home, he’ll endure her sass. Especially since it’s what draws him to her.

Newly rescued from a mad scientist’s lab, Mari isn’t the same. Sure she still suffers the embarrassment of dropping an egg every time she’s taken by surprise, but what really scares her is when her darkness takes over and she blacks out. Now, the gorgeous and frustrating Jax keeps stuffing her in cages and insists that he was hired by her dead father to bring her back to a place she’s never been. And he refuses to feed her meat. Mari doesn’t know what to do with the sexy kangaroo. Though she knows what she’d like to do with him…

Someone wants the darkness that prowls inside Mari. Badly. But Mari’s more worried about what she could do to Jax and their allies if she can’t control herself. Will this unlikely pair have their g’day, or will their foes and Mari’s inner demons prove too much?

Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .

While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.

Not my favorite

I didn't like this entry as much as the other books in the series. Part of the problem was that she tried too hard to make it funny, that it became really cringey. Also, using hashtag (like #hashtag he deserved it) is really annoying. It is a really annoying fad that was very out of place in the book, and unfortunately, used often. I am archiving this book. Certainly won't read again. And the muahaha nonsense is back. Eve langlais has some good books, but she isn't an autobuy for me as the tropes and tone can get very forced, feeling like she is trying too hard to stay modern. Skip this book, my personal least favorite of hers. Hashtag don't use trends popular only with preteens to make your book funny.

3.5 stars.

These books are crazily fun. If you are in the mood for some laugh out loud scenes and ridiculously silly plotlines, these are for you. This book introduces the Jones men, a crazy Aussie kangaroo shifter family. Eve Langlais did a great job in getting the Aussie larrikin humor just right.

Very typical for Eve Langlais. Not as over the top as the earlier books in this series, though it was introducing a whole new batch of characters. Ends like it was going to continue with more books in the series, but I don't know if that is true or not. This one is almost a year old and I don't see another book planned.

Fun and short with good narration, nice for a quick fill in book.

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

I love being back in the world of F.U.C. Jaxon is sent to contain an ostrich which is wreaking havoc on the suburbs. He is told that he is going on the orders of the father of the bird and that she has been in a cult. So Jax goes in and kidnaps her, knocks her out and puts her on a boat to take her back to her father. He thinks he is saving her from a cult, so he has his heart in the right place.

Mari is sure that she doesn’t have a father. She also hasn’t been in a cult. She was a former prisoner of Mastermind, the on-going villain of this series. She isn’t the same since she left the compound where she was held prisoner. She has problems shifting since then, among other issues.

So this series is really cute. I love how there are so many unusual shifters. I mean, how do you not love a series where you pair and ostrich and a kangaroo shifter? Oh, when Mari gets scared, she lays an egg. How funny is that?

Would I taste like chicken? Then it occurred to her what meal these people planned, which brought on an even more evil realization. They’re going to shove their hand up my butt and fill me with stuffing. Squawk.

Narration
Abby Craden continues to really nail this series. I think she really brings out the humor of the story. I like her voices for all the characters. Her men and women’s voices are great. There are a ton of sounds that are included in this story, like in the quote above, she did great with all of those. I can’t imagine reading this series after have listened to her narrate it.

Again moving further away from FUC and ASS but still a mention. Feels a little like a spin off, moving to Australia with Jax and his crazy family. From the start this one was pretty crazy. A kangaroo essentially kidnapping an ostrich, believing from his hire, she was in a cult called MUFF. At this point I’m hoping for no more acronyms. It’s a little overdone at this point. From there it’s a family reunion of chaos.

It was kinda entertaining how clueless Jax was about Mari. It felt like those look over there secret moments. The bad guy wasn’t surprising. I’ve recently learnt from Heaven’s design team, just how scary koalas are. The little twist at the end was pretty offhand but confirmed the next book is gonna stay in the family and then the epilogue which made Jeb seem a little creepy. Next one should be interesting.

I don't even released, how much I missed FUC. The first sentences and I was chuckling. First chapter and I was devouring the rest. I loved 'Roo and his ostrich mate with tendency to shift into something darker. It was fun and engaging. And it's just the beginning of new adventure in FUC series. I so can't wait for the next book.

So worth the wait!!

I've been waiting on this book since the first teaser. An as soon as it hit my kindle I ate it all up. I cried I laughed so hard. This has to be one of my favorites in the series, no lie. How can you not love a woman who makes jokes about always laying an egg?

Seriously... EVE, the ending!!! What.the.hell? You are so not right!

Eve has done it again...

She has brought us another hilarious tale from the FUC series. Fast paced, sexy, and loads of fun. I look forward to hearing more from Max's family Down Under.

Jax's family is just.. something! I think that was my all time favorite part of this book :D
In the beginning I wasn't sure I will like this, since both characters were weird and somewhat annoying, but then the family entered the picture and when I almost chocked on laughter, I knew I have to like it for that.

Ostrich and the 'Roo
5 stars

When Jaxon is approached to bring Mari home, he believes that he's helping a father whose daughter had been coerced into joining a cult and has been missing for four years. He had no idea that he was helping a criminal almost as bad as the one that Mari had only recently been saved from by the FUC and ASS agents. It doesn't take long though for him to figure out that Mari was not only telling the truth about the man who claimed to be her father but that he might need some help from his family. It also didn't take long to figure out that he had fallen head over hills for her and he would do anything to keep her safe. Who would have thought he, Jaxon, a vegetarian, peace and quiet loving kangaroo, would fall for a meat loving, chatterbox Ostrich.

The always fun and entertaining series has a new villain which finds FUC taking it to the land down under. Most of the characters from the previous books are missing in this one since other than the first couple of chapters, it features Jax and takes place out of the US. That doesn't mean that you're going to miss the antics of them though because Jaxon has a whole heap of brothers and Uncles that are always good for a laugh. This series if highly entertaining and one of my favorites out there. It features shape shifters that you wouldn't normally catch together and as well as some with a few hidden monsters thanks to a criminal mastermind with little man syndrome. I highly recommend the entire series and while they do not need to be read in order, it will make them a little easier to follow. This one though can be read as a stand-alone since it looks to be the beginning of the next "chapter" so to speak.

I loved this, but it isn't a favorite for me.

It still had all the great humor and chemistry between characters, the action was perfect and I loved that he was a little on the egotistical side. But it felt so much like the other books when it came to the whole mastermind thing. It's been done in this series already along with the "muahahaha", just needs something a little different on the evil scale to change it up.

Him not listening to her was a little annoying. Did you not do any research (of course not) when it came to get her? I get that it was a lot of money, but the fact that his brother was the one who finally came out to say that she was telling the truth was a little annoying. I get he was using his knowledge about the drug to go into why she wasn't making any sense, but at the same time I think that he should have done a little more research on her and her "dad".

And the hashtag thing. Listen. I'm a 25 year old girl and even I have never used a hashtag because I understand that it is the dumbest thing in the world when it's said outside of twitter (even then it annoys me). So when I read it in a book I did an eye roll every time because it was just so stupid.

Other than then the the issues above, I loved this and it was a great read with humor and action. I absolutely loved his family and kind of wish there was little more of them in the book (maybe they will get their own little novellas?) because they were just great.

Overall it was a great read and I would give it 3.5, but round up to 4 because of the brothers.

Oh, man. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy these shapeshifters and their somewhat whacked outlook on life. I mean, Jax is a pretty upstanding guy. Except when he's not. You know, like when he's helping his family commit some larceny. Or...whatever it is they're up to.

He and his family are just refreshingly crazy and I LIKE that in my shifters.

Mari, on the other hand, is fairly normal. Except for the whole blacking out thing and waking up in questionable places with blood on her. Pfft. Who DOESN'T that happen to sometimes? AMIRITE? Anyway. Due to her unfortunate time as a guest of Mastermind, she has a darker side that likes to rear up on occasion. Good thing she has a crazy 'Roo and his equally crazy family to help keep her in line.

Dastardly deeds, romance (of a sort) on the high seas, a little spilled blood, and an ostrich who drops the occasional surprise egg. GOOD TIMES! I'm all in for more of the Jones clan and their adventures Down Under.

Mari has not been human since escaping from the mastermind's labs. She was minding her own business one night with her head in a bush. Two men started being very filthy toward her talking about where they would put the stuffing after she was dead.
When they got the shotguns out, she ran. She got a graze off the first bullet, feathers were taken off with the second, then the other one in her head told her to sleep.
She woke up in a cage, on a boat, still an ostrich, with someone who wanted her to wear a rope and walk around the deck. P-l-e-a-s-e! She took the rope and stomped on it and gave him a very nasty look. "Squawk!'
He blew powder in her face and she became a girl. It had been so long since she had arms.
So begins the story of our Ostrich and Roo. Ostrich who gets scared and lays eggs. Our Roo, "who has so many brothers he doesn't know what to do."
I volunteered to review this ARC book using my own opinion.

Walk away from my mate regardless if her but is in the air and head in the ground she's in that position for me

Who would have thunk it a roo and a ostrich can be together and cause a bunch of raucous. This book was hilarious just like all the books in this series. And it couldn't go with Miranda making an appearance. I need some of those brownies so maybe I can open up a can of whoop arse on these folks. I could not put this book down. Even took it the bathroom with me. Luckily I washed my hands. Mari never felt loved they way her mate's crazy Jax family made her feel and would not trade it for the world. But now we have to deal with Mr. Joel Wilson and power hungry koala who wants to pick up where Master mind left off. What is it with this Napoleon complex. Please oh please let their be another book.

Loved it

Awesome series! Since it has been a while I had to retread the series, and reacquaint my self the the craziness that is the FUC and the ASS.. I loved Jax and Mari story!
Jax rescues Mari, on behalf of her father, to save her from a cult. Mari a victim of the masterminds experiments, stuck in her ostrich form wakes up in a cage on a cargo ship. The handsome shifter who helps her get back her human form, kidnapped her. Mari can't convince the hot but obviously crazy kangaroo that he has the wrong bird. Then things go side ways. Jax:s family comes to the rescue. Love Jax:s family! Of course Miranda, with Chase and baby in tow makes her appearance.
I am really hoping there will be more books featuring Jax:s brothers, uncle's, dad ect. Love the Jones family.

Was really looking forward to this mostly because of the "Roo" factor being an Aussie myself but I was a tad disappointed and I didn't like this entry as much as the other books in the series.
I just didn't seem to find the humour and banter in this one funny, no laugh out loud moments that some of the previous books had achieved. It came across kind of cheesy. I think the most annoying part was the use of the hashtag, seriously, what are we 15 year old's, I guess she was trying to "keep with the time" but it just came across as immature and out of place.
Loved Jax's family, his brother were pretty interesting but the villain, a koala, just seems a rehash of the first mastermind, just rinse and repeat. Not really sure if enough interest to continue with the series, which is disappointing.
Overall just an ok read for me.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE FURRY UNITED COALITION SERIES BY EVE LANGAIS

If I had one wish it would be that EVE would be writing more additional stories sooner cuz it seems SOOOOO far in between them coming out. When a series is as wonderfully enjoyable reading you can't help but want to see who and what happens next in the Masterminds Craziness. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TERRIFIC SERIES TO EVERYONE WHO ENJOYS SMILING AND SIZZLING SEXY READING!! You'll NEVER GO WRONG WITH AN AWESOME EVE LANGAIS BOOK!!

Read it!!! Ssshhh...no talking. Just buy and read. Thank me later.

Another great page turner doesn't do this book justice. Langlais wrote a funny moment on almost every page along with action and of course romance. The romance was HOT!

This book packed in everything you love about a Langlais book and gave you so much action you won't be able to put it down.

I promised myself to read just one chapter. Then suddenly I was done and it was a few hours before I had to leave for work. The. Next. Day!

Like any other book by Eve Langlais this one was another hilarious book

- I liked the hero, even though it took him forever to understand that he was lied to

- I loved his family they were hilarious

- The heroine was funny and adorable too, how she focuses and gets flustered over the little things

- I liked how desperate sounding the hero was like when he discovered that the heroine has left him

- When will evil characters understand that their laughs aren't evil sounding, first it was a squirrel then a koala, like seriously ppl ur laughed doesn't sound evil XD

Overall, *thumbs up*

Jax is such a smart***, “you’re naked. What am I supposed to look at?” Leave it to Jax to make a bad situation a humorous one, "an utterly unexpected remark that rounded her mouth and took her ability to reply. His nostrils flared. “Damn, luv. Don’t look at me like that. And you need to put this on before I forget where we are.” He shed his shirt and handed it to her. “You are utterly distracting in the nude.” I liled this book, although there wasntr as mych humor as the other ones.

In general for all of Langlais' books: These are light and fluffy, funny and sexy, and easy, quick reads. Great poolside or beach reads, or when your brain is overwhelmed by RL. My only peeve (and this may just be because I binged her books) is that she constantly uses "portal" when she means "door" or "doorway". The books could use one last round of editing, but the errors are minor and don't take away from the enjoyment of reading them.

Very cute book. I somehow missed the last two books in this series and had forgotten how much fun it is. Need to go back and track them down. It seemed like Eve's last few shifter books in her other series hadn't been quite as funny, so I'm really glad I picked this one up. Maribelle was just so cute and so confused while in her feathered form while Jax was great, protective, yet with a bit of a goofy edge. Looking forward to more, maybe featuring some of his brothers?
