From Olivia Jaymes, a trilogy filled with mystery, suspense, danger, and romance. Trust no one. Shocking revelations…After a night of tequila shots with her two new friends, Bailey Scott discovers that their husbands all died on the exact same day five years ago. Shocked, hung over, and in deep denial, she vows to put the entire evening behind her and never give it another thought. Clearly the universe is messing with all three of them but she won’t let it drag her back to that dark place. She’s worked too hard to move on. But the past refuses to rest in peace… Bailey reluctantly teams up with the mysterious Chase Jennings to investigate the tenuous connection between a murder twenty years ago and her husband Frank’s death. The truth must be found, but the search uncovers a destructive power struggle that goes far beyond their wildest dreams. The stakes have never been higher and it could cost them everything. Even their own lives. Welcome to Midnight Blue Beach.

The entire point of this book is that the three women discover that their husbands all died on the same day, five years ago. This launches them into an investigation of a fourth murder that happened fifteen years earlier, also on the same date, at a rich-kids summer camp that all three boys attended. The story line is okay, albeit slow at times, and the character development of Bailey and Chase, the main two characters, is sufficient.
What irks me is that although they figure out what happened in the fourth murder - they NEVER figure out why their husbands died on the same day. The book ends with a random last chapter describing a sort of pointless budding love interest between two other characters, then "Thank you for reading." WHAT???
But... why did their husbands die on the same day? Were they murdered, or was it an incredible coincidence? If they were murdered, who did it, and why? Through all the fiddling around, jetting back and forth, investigating a secret society, none of this was ever answered. I guess I could read the second book, but any author who tries to make their readers buy another book to find out the end of the story is not worth my money.

I had no expectations going in, and I loved this book. The mystery is super interesting, the romances fascinating and cute, and all the women are just so fun and they all have different personalities. I really enjoyed this and wish I had the second book in my hands right now. This series is really really good. Naturally, it’s quite a bit clichéd in parts. And somethings it extremely predictable. But it’s worth it and it works for this particular story. I would give it a try before you judge it LOL
I was not sure what to expect when I began this book. The story was a bit slow, but engaging. I kept with it and it turned into an engaging story with twists, turns and a true mystery. I loved that in the end Bailey gave into her feelings for Chase, as she had been so guarded beforehand. They seemed to compliment one another great. I am debating if I want to continue with Book #2 and Book #3 as I feel that I have no solved the mystery yet. I was a bit confused with the wording on some pages as to who done it- I think I know but I feel like there must be more to the story. I guess if I keep reading I might find my answers. (A lot of context issues and mistakes. I marked up my ebook with highlights and notes for these #obsessed)
There is something to this book if even with the cliffhanger I am giving it a good rating, between 3.5-4 stars. I liked the story and characters. It had a good mix of romance and suspense. The cliffhanger did disappoint me, so that is why I did not score it higher.
Bailey, Peyton and Willow met in the parking lot of a society party that none of them wanted to attend when Willow suggests they have a drink at real bar. As the women get to know each other, the trio finds out they became widows through accidents on exactly the same date, five years ago! What a coincidence!
Sorting through her husband’s things, Bailey’s surprised to find clippings of an unsolved murder that occurred exactly 15 years before her husband’s death. Unable to chalk it up to coincidence, Bailey wonders aloud to Willow and Peyton if there’s a connection between their husband’s deaths and the earlier murder. The trio agrees to look for the truth.
Chase Jennings knew the victim and his family ran the now dilapidated camp for elite teens. Surprising Bailey as she looks for the murder scene, Chase gets her to leave. Chase and Bailey are flustered when their friends question them about the encounter. Bailey tries again and though Chase thinks her belief is far-fetched, he wants to help.
Using Chase’s memories, friends and connections, the items formerly tagged coincidence continue to add up as Baily and Chase work together to untangle the knotty past while battling a growing attraction between them. Bailey keeps working with Peyton and Willow to gain confirmations and leads until they’re all faced with undeniable truths.
To my taste, this good twisty tale has a nicely paced romance, not so straight-forward mystery with an unexpected punch or two and well fleshed characters (read perfect matches) as support awaiting their star-turns. The conclusion here is a mixed bag as a resolution or two is given, however, there is much more unravel, leaving the reader with a cliff-hanger! Aaargh! Rating: 4.25stars
Olivia Jaymes is one of my go-to authors. This story is a captivating start for the Midnight Blue Beach Series. Chase and Peyton are the main characters. Their friends (Willow, Peyton, Joshua, and Ellis) play key roles and will take the starring roles in upcoming books. The book centers around three widows that discovered their husbands were once teenage friends and they all died on the exact same day. It can’t be coincidence, and these ladies set out to find the truth. Did their husbands really die by freak accidents, or were murdered? For that answer, it appears the whole series must be read. This is a mystery with a side of romance. For this author the love story is pretty tame- like PG. I would have preferred at least one steamy scene, that I know Ms. Jaymes can write.
I have no idea what relation the title has to this book, which is about three women who find out their husbands all died on the same day and suspect it may be related to their adolescent friendship at summer camp. There's not a lot of "wickedness," just a fairly routine mystery plot and the setup for a series involving a mysterious cabal of rich people who have an evil plot for "social justice." If you're hoping for any insight as to what happened to the husbands, you will have to buy the rest of the books.
The male MC can't stop referring to women as "females" and it's gross.
A good read, quite the mystery, however, it didn't solve the initial mystery, it did solve who killed Gwen. I like a book to finish, but I can see this will be a continuation with Peyton and Ellis as the next couple or Willow and Josh. I can see where there is room for more twists in this story, and have a feeling there maybe more involved especially with the council.
I loved Wicked After Midnight by Olivia Jaymes. It is the first in the Midnight Blue Beach Trilogy. This book has romance and suspense. It is the story of three women who meet and, after talking, discover that each of their husbands died on the very same day five years earlier....coincidence? Read the series to find out.
I enjoy romantic suspense so when I realised I hadn’t read this author I was excited. This book is full of twists and turns and had me hooked from the beginning. Looking forward to reading the next book
Loved the suspense throughout. This story kept you on your toes. Loved the two main characters. Can't wait to read the next book and see how their relationship goes.
Fabulous. Love the characters and the mystery is so compelling. I'm completely hooked so I've already added the other two to my TBR pile. I've got to know!
olivia Jaymes became one of my favourite authors after I read the Cowboy Justice Association series. I love a book that makes me want to keep turning the page and you can always count that with this author.
This is a completely different type of Olivia Jaymes book, but it is just as wonderful as you would expect from her. It is well written. The story is fully explored. Thank God, there will be more of them. The book moved at a steady pace with just enough to keep you intrigued, but you won't feel overwhelmed. You can see the other romances that are building so I am guessing it will be one romance kindled per book while still maintaining the bigger plot picture. I am just as involved with the couple as I am with the big picture. I am dying for Book 2 so maybe I can start piecing together the whodunit. Whether you are a new or already proven lover of Olivia Jaymes, if you like romance and a good mystery, you will want to read this.
This is my kind of mystery! I loved the twists and turns and the fact that it kept you guessing! I really enjoyed Bailey and Chase together. Can't wait for the rest of the trilogy!
It was a change of character type from her Cowboy Command series but still very likeable and made you want to be involved in their lives. I like the slower romantic build up.
Great new series. Love the mystery and drama that in this book. First the chance meeting of three women who all lost their husbands on the same day, then adding to other happenings that were on that day in the past. Just when I thought I knew who did what the story twisted and surprise me. I'm really excited about this new adventure Olivia is taking us on.
a macabre link between 3 widows in the same small town. a long ago unsolved murder. a secret society...that all 3 deceased spouses belonged. . how did 3 former friends all die in bizarre accidents on the same day in different places? Hope we find out.
I love a good mystery, and this one did not disappoint. It was really intriguing from the first chapter, and got better and better. Love the characters and looking forward to reading more of them in the next book. A definite keeper!
Kept me on the edge of my seat through the whole book. Wasn't expecting it to end the way it did. Incredible story line, it includes facts of both real and fictional. Be prepare to keep changing who you think did it. Just wwhen you think it was one person it changes to another and another. Definitely recommend this for the mystery reader.
Hmm so much goes on here and can it be plausible? The discovery that all three husbands knew each other and attended the same summer camp added to the mystery. They also had sex with a young teenage girl who was murdered, on the same day as they all were, fifteen years earlier. What or who is the connection? So many possibilities and then the author leaves us with a mild cliff-hanger.... I still liked the story and plan on paying for the next in the series.
I enjoyed the book and it's twist and turns. The story is full of coincidences and a mystery that surrounds each connection. The book does end with a cliff hanger, but it's so good you'll want to get all three in the series.
A page turner with exciting leads chapter by chapter Addthe growing romances between the three main female protagonist and you have an unforgettable read
