Loretta Simmons returns home to Hope, Oklahoma after her marriage collapses from a slow but miserable death. She's determined to be independent, essentially raising her 9-year old daughter, Hazel, like a single parent. Things are awkward when the man she callously dumped for the man she married is renovating the building where her bookstore is housed. Deacon Fox keeps his distance but eventually life puts them on the same path.
The biggest conflict in this story is how Deacon and Loretta will resolve what happened between them as teens and that gets dealt with pretty early on. What remains is the slow building new relationship between the two of them, connected through Hazel who dazzles Deacon and he her. Add to the mix a new dog named Otis, a Great Dane who needs training, and you've got a delightful story. I also liked the narrator who interpreted the vibe of the town and these characters pretty well and added the requisite distinctions.
One of the things I love about this series is how the past characters are all connected. The new characters are introduced to the circle and the friendships that develop are heartwarming. Hope is a place I like to come visit to uplift my spirit and feel better about my community. These are good, hard working people who aren't wealthy (well, one of them is) and experience the normal issues associated with work, family and friends. I like them, like visiting with them and I really liked Loretta and Deacon. I thought he let her off the hook too easily but it was true to his character. There are a few new characters introduced here so I'm looking forward to more stories and returning to this town. 3.5 stars

As not a fan of 2nd chance books I actually enjoyed this one.
Contrary to the “usual” trope the heroine was the one to break up with the hero as they were teens. I’m not ashamed to admit that it made me easier to stomach the story.
She moved on and married OM. She was brainwashed by her parents and even if it doesn’t excuse her, I had less problems with this situation as if the roles were reversed.
The hero was a great man. I liked his attitude and adored how he cared for the heroine and her daughter.
I read all books in this series and they all are pretty sweet. Low drama, maybe a bit naïve, but not annoying.
Big plus – and also the main reason I liked this series – all MCs are animal lovers. Here we had an adorable dog who was adopted from animal shelter. I’m often hard on people, but I have a very soft spot for animals. So, if the person loves pets, or better rescues one, I would probably like him or her. And every single character in this series love animals. I’m in!
I had no problems with the hero not being celibate during separation, it was 12 years, and I read only little details about his past. No OW, and it helped a lot.
Smart conflict at the end, I was on her side and fully understood her doubts.
Big plus: the heroine didn’t once look pathetic.
She didn’t need to grovel or apologise on her knees, the hero accepted her and forgave her without her begging and humiliating herself.
Overall I enjoyed this book and will definitely read the next one.

Love Me Again is the 7th book in the Hope series but can stand alone completely. I personally have not read any of the other books in the series (although I probably will after this one) and had no confusion in terms of the town, story line, or characters. With that, this is a lovely second chance romance between former flames who reconnect after a 12 year absence from one another. It is also a sweet small town read with all the perks one would expect from this genre (i.e. the friendships, how everyone knows everyone's business, and so on).
Truly, I enjoyed reading this book. I found the characters and their budding relationship to be very charming however, their relationship and how everything went down to be quite predictable. Normally, this would make me sort of dislike the book, but predictable or not, it was still really good and I did enjoy it from page 1 all the way until the end. All too often we see the same tropes used in stories and it gets old after a while. However, the authors writing style and the way the situation was handled between the two made it feel real and I liked this. In some parts the wording and the way the two interacted with one another made me roll my eyes because frankly, it felt like 60 year old's talking and not 30 somethings, but I got over it in the end and found it to add to the characters maturity.
In the end, even if there were some flaws (in my personal opinion of course) I did find myself smiling and enjoying the read. It's pretty fast paced at only 300 pages, is an easy read, and isn't filled with all the drama. It's just a simple love story with strong characters and a cute plot.
Fans of the author will certainly enjoy this one and those who are looking for a quick and sweet read to knock you off your feet. Even more, if your looking for something with a small town feel and like romances that come back to life then this is the book for you!

Satisfying edition to the Hope Series, about second chance at love. This was very low drama, which was unexpected due to how Deacon acted towards Loretta in previous books. Here, all was forgiven pretty quickly, which was the adult thing to do, but in book land made it a little dull. I do like this series and all past characters show up here, along with a few new characters who I'm guessing are the next book couple. Loretta's daughter Hazel and her dog Otis made the book for me. 3 1/2 stars.

Jaci does it again! And again and again. The Hope series is one of my go-to series for a feel good story and LOVE ME AGAIN didn't disappoint. There's the fact that this is a high school sweethearts that didn't end up together getting a second chance. Also that the heroine is now divorced and raising her daughter alone. I can't get enough of these stories.We've seen the sexy Deacon Fox earlier in the series. Loretta broke his heart when she left him after high school and went on to marry a future politician. Deacon has never gotten over the hurt and is not ready to face Loretta now that she's back in town. In fact, they've done a good job at avoiding each other until he ends up working on the building next to her new bookstore. And Loretta's daughter (and new pooch) soften him up. Small town, kids, animals, sexy construction worker and second chances... LOVE ME AGAIN was overflowing with goodness. I couldn't put it down.
I loved the characters and their trust again, both for different reasons. But the love they had for each other was always there and it was nice to see them tentatively letting their guard down and showing the other that they still cared. It's now a more mature relationship and Loretta especially had still some growing up to do and standing up to her parents. It was nice to see the evolution of that as well. And Deacon will have your heart melting at his feet. Swoon-worthy.
I sound like a broken record when it comes to this series, but it's one of my favorites. This is the perfect summer read and one of those books that will leave you with a sweet smile on your face after you finish it. Even as you're wondering when you can get more.

This was another good story set in Hope and we got to see many of the characters from previous books. Deacon and Loretta had a past, but managed to overcome that and work towards a future together. I enjoyed this, but it all seemed a little too easy and predictable. There was something about the writing that felt different from the author's other books too. Still good and I was happy to see them get their happy ending - at last!
I listened to the audio and while there was nothing wrong with it, it was a new narrator from the others in the series. Probably because it wasn't what I was used to or expecting, it didn't work for me as well as the others did. I'm pretty sure I have listened to the narrator, Allyson Ryan, before and not had a problem, but she didn't fit this series as well as I hoped. Just my opinion and again, not a knock on the narrator.

Deacon could just be so sweet, that man looks out for Loretta, even at times she kinda doesn't want him to, "he moved into her and took her hand, pressing it against his hard ***k. “I think you know better than that. I want this. I want you. But I don’t think tonight is the right time.” Loretta has no qualms voicing her needs, girl just puts it out there, "...because I’m going to warn you, Deacon. It’s been a really long time for me. There’s been a severe drought. The well has been dry. Do you need me to spout any more euphemisms, or do you get the idea?” I loved this book, I was so in love with Deacon, the man couldn't be more perfect.

I absolutely loved LOVE ME AGAIN. This second-chance romance is full of heart and loads of laughs!
Loretta is a strong heroine. She’s moved back to Hope for a fresh start for herself and her daughter Hazel. Loretta’s bought a home, opened a business and seems to be doing well… until her high school sweetheart Deacon begins working in the building next door to her book store.
Deacon is a smokin’ hot contractor with a sexy smile and muscles for miles. He’s handsome, successful and single. The only problem he has is that the woman who broke his heart 12 years ago is back in town with a daughter in tow; but every time she smiles, it does all kinds of things to his head and other places. Deacon’s plans of ignoring Loretta fall apart as his company is hired to renovate the building next to hers. It’s not long before their chemistry reignites a fiery passion that neither of them can escape from… nor do they want to.
Deacon is so freakin’ swoon-worthy! First of all, he’s a buff contractor doing manual labor all day with some very nice… perks 😉 I definitely want tickets to his gun show! But it’s not his body that won me over. Deacon is amazing to Loretta’s daughter Hazel. You gotta love a man who’s great with kids!
What I loved most about this book was Hazel’s dog, Otis. Every scene with this dog was brilliant! I laughed so much! He is an essential part of the story and I love how the author incorporates pets throughout the whole series.
LOVE ME AGAIN is an ideal contemporary romance. A second chance at first love and a big goofy dog are just a few of the many wonderful things about this book. I highly recommend it and any book by Jaci Burton.

This does not need to be read in order
Okay, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I've only read the second and fifth book in this series. When it comes to series like these, I'm like a deranged butterfly, I flutter all over the damn place between books. So with that being said, you can absolutely, totally, read this series out of order, pick and choose, or start off just reading this book. Whatever tickles your fancy. Now, for those of you who start from the beginning and read your way though, you will find a lot of enjoyment from these books because we meet up with everyone. For instance there's a scene in this book where the gang (for the most part) get together and go on a vacation to this massive house by the lake. There's drinks, girl-time, dude-time, kid-time, dog-time... you get the idea. So, I think if I had been a good lil reader and read this series from start to finish, I would have been ecstatic to see what my favorite characters were up to. Since I've only read two of the books previously, I settled for getting to see what one of them were up to.
Otis is the best!
If you follow me on Instagram you may remember me babbling on about my love for Otis. You'd also be clued into the fact that Otis is the oh so handsome Great Dane on the cover. I love that the cover shows Deacon with a behaving Otis because if it had been Loretta with Otis, it would have been a hot mess. That dog was a massive goofball and a half. He's eating lil old lady's bouquet of flowers, running around with the newly planted tomato plant in his mouth like it's a rope toy, and he's giving you those dopey eyes with his head cocked to the side like, "What? What'd I do?" Otis was my jam in this book. Which is no surprise since I always love animals in books and tend to feel put out when they only seem to be background noise. Otis was all up in this story. He was pretty much a secondary character and I loved it.
Adults adulting
I really enjoyed the fact that we got to see these two fine adults working on the job. Deacon is a contractor who just so happens to be renovating the building next to Loretta's bookstore, which is how these two bump into each other. So, I liked that it's not just "these two characters do 'this' for a living" but aren't actually shown them in action. Jaci Burton takes the time to show you what a day on the job is like for them and I appreciated that.
Adults actually acting like adults
Say what?! Who knew you could have two adults that actually acted like grown ass adults. I know right? I mean, instead of getting their panties in a wad and getting some bum-hurt feelings, they deal with their issues like... well, adults. Loretta broke Deacon's heart when they were just teens and while she still feels guilt over it, he's moved on. He helps her out at her new house/ranch with repairs and chats up her kid. He doesn't mope around and take it out on her. Not to mention, when the big "conflict" pops up, they don't revert back to their teen years and go storming off in a hissy fit of anger. No! They T.O. that bad-boy, take a minute to collect themselves, pull up their big girl panties/big boy briefs, and move on.
This was an all around great read
You have romance, goofy dogs, a cute little daughter who will tug on your heart strings, and some steamy scenes. While I haven't read all the books in the series, it's not because I don't want to, it's just that I can only read so many books. At some point I would like to go back and fill in the blanks because I love how the characters all weave together. In this book we meet Josie who is new to town. Her past sounds a little sketchy, like she was lucky to get out, and with the hint of romance between her and another character in this book, I'm really hoping her story is next.

Man, Jaci Burton has some of the absolute best covers on her books. This cover sucked me right in and I decided to jump into the series at this point, as I have not read the earlier books. While there is some character crossover, I think you are fine reading these books as standalones.
The setting for this series is the small town of Hope, Oklahoma where everyone knows everyone, and some adults haven't left behind the drama of high school. Following a disastrous marriage that failed spectacularly, our heroine has returned home to Hope with her inquisitive nine year-old daughter in tow. By all outward appearances, Loretta Simmons has her stuff together. She opened a book store which is doing well, she is a great mom with a great kid, and they have moved onto their own farm with plans for lots of animals. Her politician ex-husband is too busy for their daughter, Hazel, and is a huge disappointment for them both. I admired Loretta for wanting to be independent, and for doing what was best for herself and her daughter, even though things may have been uncomfortable for her in Hope. I did have a hard time connecting with her, because we just really didn't have much in common. This story features heavily on the "mom" aspect, and that's not my thing, but others will probably love this characteristic.
Deacon Fox was a swoonworthy hero. He ticked the boxes of nice guy AND hunky hero, and I don't have a bad thing to say about him. I love a man that can work with his hands and keep up a good conversation, and Deacon could do that and more. He is building and renovating all over Hope, but also made time to fix fences and plumbing for a single mom and her cute kid. I liked that he jumped right in with Hazel where many men would shy away from the lonely little girl of an ex-girlfriend. I think a lot of moms will be drooling over Deacon and his whole good guy persona.
There was a flipped power dynamic with this second chance romance, as Loretta was the heartbreaker of the relationship the first time around. Now that she is back in Hope, things are awkward between her and Deacon, and they have to find a way to work past that. (It didn't take them very long.) The relationship felt realistic and was probably a good view of dating when you have a kid. I liked that we had mature characters and weren't dealing with an overload of angst given the relationship history between Deacon and Loretta.
There was something that made me ranty... and that involved a softball game in the June heat where our characters were dressed all wrong (jeans, capris and silk lingerie!) and our heroine did a head first dive into home plate (that silk bra would have been toast!). Anyway, after this very sweaty activity... there was sex with lots of tongue before any showers were had. Ew. There had to be some sweat and smells and DIRT (hello - head first slide!). This is a big ol' NOPE from me. Move that mess into the shower please.

Second chance romances are some of my favorites. There is a challenge for the author in balancing the reason that the couple broke up in the past with the idea that they can work things out in the future. This hit the balance well.
Loretta and Deacon were high school sweethearts, and they split because, as teenagers do, Loretta listened to the advice of others and made decisions that she thought were going to be best for both their futures. Fast forward a number of years and those choices didn't work out as well as anticipated and Loretta is back home, in Hope and working next to Deacon's current renovation project. This is the 7th in a series and while the book is definitely focused on Loretta and Deacon, there are snippets of other characters from previous stories which were fun. You can definitely start with this book, and the other characters will be pleasant secondary characters, but if you have read the previous books, the little bits of time with them are a lot of fun.
Jaci Burton is a go to author for me, so a small town second chance romance, well, I knew I was going to be getting something good. And I was not disappointed.
I recommend this book.

Second chance romances are some of my favorites. There is a challenge for the author in balancing the reason that the couple broke up in the past with the idea that they can work things out in the future. This hit the balance well.
Loretta and Deacon were high school sweethearts, and they split because, as teenagers do, Loretta listened to the advice of others and made decisions that she thought were going to be best for both their futures. Fast forward a number of years and those choices didn't work out as well as anticipated and Loretta is back home, in Hope and working next to Deacon's current renovation project. At first, neither is happy, but as they spend time together, and he bonds with Loretta's daughter, the attraction and emotion that was only slightly buried comes back to the surface.

Oh no Jaci, what the hell happened? I know it has been a while since I read one of your usually amazing books but what happened with this one? Was I the only one who literally fell asleep while reading this one?
Oh my Gosh this book was boring me to death. Are you kidding me?

The only reason I finished this book was because it was the only book in my vicinity and I needed to read something or go crazy. I didn’t want to go bat shit crazy so I kept on until the end where I had to pull myself out of boredom stupor so as to write this review.
Again I was bored.

A second chance romance in a small town where everybody knows your business and I just couldn't get enough.
Back in high school, Loretta broke Deacon's heart when she broke up with him out of the blue. Instead of staying with the love he thought they had, Loretta had chosen to leave him and marry a guy with high social standing who later becomes a future politician. Fast forward some years and following a divorce, Loretta is back in Hope along with her 9 year old daughter. What Deacon didn't know was that Loretta was forced into her marriage by her parents and now that she has freedom, she's determined to make things right with Deacon.
Not going to lie, I ate this book up. I knew it was going to be a good story, Burton always knows how to tell a good one, but there was something about this one. The moment Deacon spoke to Hazel, Loretta's daughter, I was sold or swooning....or both. I also really liked that Burton chose to bypass a book full of anger and fighting and chose to instead focus on forgiving and growing. Yes, Deacon was hurt. Yes, he acknowledges that. But he also realizes they were kids and both made choices they weren't proud of. He's ready to hear her out (after some initial grumbling, of course).
Deacon and Loretta had amazing chemistry. With a lot of romances I find myself getting bored with the love scenes. They almost seem repetitive. But I didn't feel that here. Everything flowed naturally and wasn't overdone. Oh, and completely hot.
And can we just talk about Hazel and Otis (the giant dog they adopt). They stole scenes right and left. That dog was a character all unto itself. I loved seeing what sort of mischief he would get up to. Then there was the relationship that Hazel built with Deacon. Talk about swoonworthy. Hazel, having an absentee father who only wants her around for photo ops, just falls in love with Deacon immediately. He's there when he says he's gonna be there. He takes time to help her and further her curiosity about the world around her. You can tell that they have a special bond. And it's true what they say, you can tell a lot about a guy with how he treats kids and animals (and his momma).
This has to be my favorite Burton read so far. I just adored it.

A summer of heartwarming activities and a sizzling reunion romance happens after a woman journeys back home when she needs to start over again and encounters the man she shouldn't have ever left. Lovable Great Dane puppy, cute pixie kid, farm house renovations, circle of friends, and Fourth of July at the lake round it off in this delightful gentle-paced small town romance.
Love Me Again is the seventh book in the Hope series. A reader could get away with it out of order, but this story really is stuffed full of most of the previous characters and their ongoing stories in the background so it works best in order.
Deacon and Loretta both grew up in Hope before she broke his heart and left with another guy. Their tense first time seeing each other years later happened in the last book. I have to confess that I was wary of tackling their story. Reunion/second chance romances can be iffy with me depending on how they are handled. But, no worries. I was glad that I could set aside my concerns and just get cozy with the laid back folks of Hope, Oklahoma as they went about their lives during the lazy days of summer.
Now, I don't want to imply that this pair ignored the past or that it didn't leave emotional scars, but it felt organic to the story of this present pair who slowly reconnect as Deacon and Loretta's cute precocious daughter with her huge Great Dane dog become friends leading to Deacon and Loretta having many encounters.. There is tension and attraction between them that they have to figure out what to do about it. Around the romance, there was also a personal story of Loretta coming home and dealing with her past both with her parents and her ex and her ex-friends so that she can move forward in the present.
I liked this character-driven plot and the heartwarming tone full of time with friends and home life. The pace is gentle and perfect when I wanted something easy and straightforward with just enough conflict to keep it interesting. I look forward to each installment and recommend the series to those who enjoy laid-back small town romance.

This was a very cute second chance romance story. Loretta was re-starting her life after divorce, headed back to her hometown with her daughter, Hazel, in tow. Loretta was determined to show her daughter what an independent woman looks like and did just that. Enter Deacon, Loretta's ex who she did wrong. The chemistry was there for the start, but so was Deacon being sweet on Hazel. In fact some of the best parts of this book was Deacon and Hazel. I was glad to see Loretta take Deacon's words to heart, to think about what they talked about so she could get her head out of her ass and find her HEA.

3.5 stars. Very cute, what I needed to read the other day. Something simple, sweet and mostly drama free. Along with a very nice HEA. Most of these characters are more self reflective and aware than most people, but it was nice.
I haven't read the other books, so I am sure I missed out on something. Previous couples are shown, babies abound, happiness everywhere. LOL, again, very simple and cute.

I Love Jaci Burton's writing, both the play by play and hope series has been two of my favorites for a while now .
I enjoy the hope series because I am an animal lover , especially dogs , since I have my own , but to me the characters and some of the storyline for me, having read all the others was a bit boring .

After Loretta’s divorce she found herself at a bit of a cross roads. Not really knowing what to do or where to go. But when she thought of were she wanted to raise her daughter the only place that would do would be Hope. But going home is not always the easiest thing to do. Going home means facing your past. A past that involves on Deacon Fox.
Another wonder story from Hope, Oklahoma. In Love Me Again we get to see high school sweethearts Deacon and Loretta reconnect after to many years apart. I really enjoyed watching Loretta grow as a person and a mom. For her to find her own footing but still being able to lean on Deacon.
I really enjoyed this story. Deacon is just so sweet and forgiving. He knows what he wants and is not afraid to go for it. Convincing Loretta might be another story. And of course Otis!! I mean who could love this silly, tomato plant stealing, shoe chewing guy?
But I do want to know about the two high school friends. It felt like the story line on that was never really resolved. Yes there was a confrontation but I wanted more out of it. Maybe in a future book there will be more? I don’t know. But until then. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series.

I loved Hazel and Otis, they were amazing comic relief for the story. As for main characters, Loretta and Deacon, I liked them. Sometimes a lot, but there were times I wished they were more assertive when it came to their past. It was too smooth.

I loved Jaci's lasr book, Rules of Contact so I felt like this was a must read for me. Loretta is back home after a bad relationship and now her ex is working right next door! I enjoyed the book for the most part. Loretta has a daughter who softens the heart. I do love second chance books....full review to come

The heroine broke the hero's heart in their teens, blamed her actions on herself and her social-climbing parents, had a child with her new husband, lost his interest, divorced him, and went crawling back home to where her ex lived. I just didn't like her. I also didn't like the hero. I mean, c'mon, really? He could just quickly forgive her? I know this is fiction, but jeez loueez, it was completely unbelievable, trite, and annoying.
