Emily Woods has been an avid reader her whole life and a lover of western movies.
A few years ago, Emily started writing her own stories. She started writing Western Romance and Mail Order Bride stories because she absolutely love writing about the women that helped settle the Wild West.
“You don’t love someone because they’re perfect, you love them in spite of the fact that they are not.” Jodi Picoult, My Sister’s Keeper Catherine Smith, a New York socialite, wasn’t expecting her life to change so completely is so short a time. She used her social advantage and intelligence to go where women of her time had never gone before. Her two older brothers had no desire or inclination to carry on the business their father had built. She was more than happy to fulfill that void and took every opportunity to learn about business, bookkeeping, and all the necessities to carry on the family business. Unfortunately, her father made a few deals that eventually sent him into bankruptcy, This sudden change of fortune left the family in dire straits, and Catherine without a home, job, or prospects; until she received a letter from San Antonio, Texas. The Adams men weren’t the most proficient, competent, and capable people when it came to solving their ranches business problems. The decided that they would apply to a mail order bride to travel west and help alleviate their bookkeeping dilemma. Their first attempt brought Olivia Martin, a sweet girl that soon proved to be a great cook and good housekeeper; but no head for numbers. Their second attempt, to Lily Smith, was doomed from the start as it was sent to the wrong Miss Smith. Now at wit's end (and running out of marriageable sons), a third letter and ticket are sent to Catherine. She has few domestic skills, not really a problem as her two new sisters-in-law have the home front covered. The administration work is aplenty the first few weeks but no real challenge for Catherine’s capabilities. The main question bouncing around the reader’s and the two newly wed’s head is what now? Will the couple be doomed to a life apart together or can they find a common emotional ground and perhaps even love? This is a sweet, clean, historical romance that should please many readers. This is the third book in the Brides for Brothers series. I have read and enjoyed them in order and, although they are all stand alone stories, I recommend reading them this way to preserve continuity. If I would make a comment it would be that I think that all the stories, bundles together, would rate a higher overall score.
I just found and began reading Emily Woods works. I have finished the stories of three brothers who find themselves with mail order brides that they didn't want to order, but each one reluctantly agreed to a scheme in order to save their family ranch. But, each one finds themselves blessed and in love because they submitted their will to the Lord's will. It was a delight to read such good stories that truly fit the description of good, clean faith based stories. One can see how each brother finds himself the perfect wife for him because the author did such a great job of giving each characters such great personalities and a sense of humor. I found myself liking each character well enough to not only wanting to see them all happy and in love with their brides, but wishing I was there among them and could count them each my friends! I will definitely be reading Emily Woods as long as she continues to write! Another author just joined my ever growing favorite authors list!!
Brains and a broken heart for Catherine has her married to a handsome young cowboy and rethinking her deal of a marriage. Caleb falls for her and is shy and unsure how to get her to think of their marriage as a real one. Very good book.
The family she married into was unconventional. The mail order brides accepted each new one that married another brother. They had a deep love of God and their families
. This short, mail-order bride, romance series holds an interesting premise that shows promise. However, there wasn't enough time in each book for a build-up of the characters and plot, plus there was little to no depth. Unfortunately, there were some grammatical errors that caused some pause. I enjoyed the Christian aspect, interesting storylines, and that they were clean and wholesomeness.
The father and four sons were stunned after their mother passed away suddenly, leaving them without anyone who knew how to cook or keep the books for the farm. They needed help desperately. The father's idea to get help was to request a mail-order bride. Each story reflects how with faith in God, all things will all work out.
I agree with many other readers that these four books should have been combined as one book. The overall rating would be much higher in that case and the assurance of reading them in order would be more prevalent, keeping the reader in the know.
BOOK 1 - Mail Order Bride: Tricked Into Love (Ben and Oliva) I accessed this book through the Kindle Unlimited program. Ben was the eldest son and volunteered to get married to help save the family farm. Olivia left New York, where she was forced to work three jobs to be able to afford a tiny apartment. Ben and Olivia begin their relationship tumultuously. She demonstrates that she has courage, she is charming, and she can cook! Unfortunately, she isn't any better at numbers than Ben.
BOOK 2 - Mail Order Bride: Mix-Up (Dan and Lily) I accessed this book through the Kindle Unlimited program. Dan, the youngest son, was the next brother to send away for a bride. Catherine was from a well-born family down on their luck and wished to enter a marriage as partners only. Lily was an orphan unable to support herself and was anxious to become part of the family, who came out west to marry. This marriage actually resulted due to a mix-up in the intended bride thanks to brother, Caleb. Unfortunately, Lily is not able to tackle the bookkeeping for the ranch either.
BOOK 3 - Mail Order Bride: A Convenient Proposal (Caleb and Catherine) This book was purchased through Amazon LLC. Is the third time a charm? The middle son, Caleb, approaches Catherine for marriage, since she already agreed to become part of the family and handle the bookkeeping part of the ranch as a business arrangement only. Will Caleb and Catherine find they are well suited for marriage or remain just business partners?
BOOK 4 - Mail Order Bride: A Baby and the Bitter Widow (Malcolm and Francine) I accessed this book through the Kindle Unlimited program. I enjoyed this series and getting to know the individual members of this growing family, but this book had a major flaw. When Lily came out west, she let the family know that she never knew her family and was raised by nuns in a convent. Now she suddenly has an Aunt Francine that was like a second mother to her growing up. They invite her to come out west to live with them after she loses her farm. What gives?? It's a major blooper.
Finally, all the men in the family have a loving wife and they all share a faith in God. It was a great way to conclude the series!
I like the premise of the series though it could really have been one book broken into 4 parts with a bit more character development. The female characters were developed a little more than the male characters but not by much. I ended up not really liking the father through all of the books and the sons came off kind of stupid. I get that they weren't super educated but they felt more like slow-witted characterizations instead of men who had grown up running a ranch their entire lives. Overall, the entire series is a really fast read with some sweet moments.
After two stories of the older brothers of Caleb, I gave up hope for something better, but I was pleasantly surprised with this story. For once, it didn’t have any of the things I disliked in the previous two stories, the author kept the romance about the emotional aspects rather than the physical. Catherine and Caleb’s characters were well written, and everything progressed nicely and reasonably until the end.
This was a short story. I liked how it described a woman who had more education than her husband but he did not feel threatened by this. I will read more from this author.
Another mailorder bride that has to wed to survive a family disaster. She’s convinced no one will ever love her and he’s working to break down the wall she’s built to protect her heart
Wow how could a woman of such sophisticated background make it as a ranchers wife. I admire how she valued her education in business, woman were thought poorly for knowledge that should be a mans.
A ranch in ruin and a desperate bride. Five stars for Caleb, the youngest of three sons who orders a bride for her bookkeeping ability. She is stiff and proper. straight from New York city and not a beauty, but she soon capture s his heart.
I chose 4 stars because the story was not long enough. I enjoyed reading this book, the content flowed freely, characters were believable and made you want to get to know them better. Everyone would enjoy this book.
I enjoyed this sweet tale. I'm a firm believer in taking it slow when building relationships. This was delicately done and I enjoyed the simplicity of this story.
Enjoyed!!!! I finished in one reading. I do not like to put Emily Woods books down. Sometimes, I read them. When I can't find a new book, I reread an Emily Woods book!!! Thanks!!!
