Rate this book
A young woman tries to make her way home from a world where people reverse age and no child is ever born.

Demalynn, a seventeen year old girl is lying in bed. The next instant she is naked in front of a busy restaurant. The red sun blazes in the sky. The police take her into custody and inform her that she has clacked onto the planet Saffire. People who ‘clack’ onto the planet younger than age thirty reverse age. Each year they get younger. People who 'clack' over thirty continue to grow old. The society is divided into two groups: people who are over thirty are forced to work in the mines. The citizens who are under thirty control the government and live a life of luxury. The planet Saffire has no live births. The most sacred book on Saffire, the Octavo, predicts that one day a child will be born called the Unum. That child will save Saffire. Demalynn realizes that she is the only person who has ever clacked that remembers where she came from. She is determined to find a way home. Demalynn is tested physically and emotionally in her journey to return home. But the most difficult test she has is to make some sense of her relationship with this boy Aiden who is also on planet Saffire.

This is a Dystopian Y A Fantasy where a young girl finds herself transported to another world. Those that arrive older than thirty, continue to age and are slaves. Those under 30 get younger and increase their intelligence. Consequently you are left with a country run by highly intelligent teenagers and all the angst this entails. Enjoyable fantasy.

This is an outstanding and imaginative YA fantasy. The author creates an alternative world, peopled with a rich variety of characters and providing a culture combining both old and new features of our world. The writing is clear and direct, providing just the right amount of description. The ending sets the stage for what I hope will be a continuation of the story with a new set of villains. The action includes romance and violence, but no graphic sex or details. For people who clack into this world, the age of 30 is the dividing line. Those over 30 continue to age and are pressed into slave work. Those under 30 reverse age and grow is intelligence. Hence the main characters are almost all in their teen years and suffering all the plagues of being a teenager. Young people will find it easy to relate to the idea of highly developed minds trapped in teen angst.
