Guilt is a heavy burden, and even Maddie's faith is slipping as she faces the biggest test of her life. Her friends don't understand and just want her to snap out of it. She's always been their rock, the sensible one. Events lead her down a dark path until one event in the high school cafeteria forces her to choose. Sit back and watch or stand up and do something. Her decision and more importantly the outcome impacts all of the students at Victory High.
Very inspirational story. I am going to give to my 13 yr old daughter to read. The only reason that it wasn't a five star read was because there were some inconsistencies in the story. The main one being the name of the "popular" girl. It starts off being Calissa Baker and changes to Clarissa Baker multiple times throughout the story, on one page it changed three different times. It was very distracting.
Let me just start by saying #blownaway This book made me cry, relive my childhood and highschool years. You see I was both, the bullied and picked on for all of my childhood and early teens. I didn't start coming out of my shell until 7th/8th year. By the time highschool came my 10th grade year I went to being the aggressor. I would make fun of people to my friends etc. There was this one evil chic who tried to bully a lot of girls. She had 2 other friends that I was friends with, but if one got mad at you all 3 of them kinda wrote you off. This Chis was the cousin of one of my close friends and neighbors, so in the beginning when she would call me ugly, spread nasty gossip etc, I bit my tongue because I didn't want to loose the friendship of her cousin or the 2girls in her clique. Finally one day I had it, I started styling my hair a different way and she told me she hated it, and it made me uglier. I lost it and read her like the Bible in Sunday School. I know that despite some of my less that proud moments, I was a good person, and I was over letting the actions of others influence who I wanted to be.
This book embraces the topic of bullying and how it effects others. It is a must read, and I feel that ALL young women should read it! I definitely feel like a better person for doing so!
Wow, this book is one that everyone needs to read, not just teenage but adults too. Here we have a compelling story of one of the hottest topics of today. Bullying is a serious problem that everybody deals with no matter your age. A story about a group of high school kids who all turn a blind eye to a fellow peer who is being bullied, even though towards the end, one person reaches out to help but as we all know it is not easy to accept help from others. When enough is enough and you can no longer take all the hate people throw out at you, what is there left to do………a sad ending to a powerful story. Can something positive come out of something so tragic, you definitely need to read Out of the Ashes to find out, sit down with your children and read it together and then talk about it. A must read for everyone.
